So ephemeral and weak.Â
But its shining with all its might.Â
Thump, Thump, like a heartbeat.Â
This is the light of life.
He smiled softly, nodding. She was right, he did know her well enough. Though he was worried sheâd try to practice though she had to get better. He frowned, worried about her more then heâd let on. He could see why he had fallen in love with her. She was trying so hard for something she loved, even when sick. He could tell she wasnât telling him everything about her health though. There was no way it was a minor problem when she wasnât in school at all anymore. He blushed hearing her words, muttering ânoâŠyouâre the special one.â
âCome on, come on, thereâs no need to flatter me now!â She laughed before lifting her pillow again as if to toss it to him. He looked very pensive as usual, but a lot softer than his usual stressed out self. She almost wanted to know what he was thinking, but that would be an intrusion of privacy. âHow about helping me escape the hospital now, Friend A? Hurry up and hatch a plan so I can go see your performance .â
«â» âStill a big nope. And also-â
âItâs pisa..Not pizza.â Iâm sorry, but he just had to correct her because he would have not been able to get over it. He is probably going to feel bad about it later since she was answering honestly to his question. His arm tensed up each time she decided to jump to hang on, using quickly mustered up strength to actually allow to hang there only for a little bit. But after, it left his arm aching a bit, but it would soon recover.
âReally?..I donât know about that, but personally, I would go on an adventure again if I wanted to. But being here like you said, with you, is great too. But getting american food is here too you know.â
â -{đą]Â âPisa... Iâm pretty sure itâs pizza.â Why would anyone name a building Pisa? It made more sense to call it after pizza. They made pizza in there too, right?
âItâs not authentic if you donât eat it where youâre suppose to.â She hummed softly for a bit before giving up on swinging on his arm and instead walking normally. âYou can go on adventures, and then tell me all about it. I like going on musical adventures, but thatâs a lot different.â
â -{đą]Â âNot everything you say, but maybe most things. Thatâs your fault for being an idiot and saying whatever comes to your mind first!â She was one to talk. It was a mystery how long he had lasted with her.Â
He was smiling again, and she wasnât sure what he was going to answer after her mean gesture. Thinking about it, he never was one to jump back. It was an odd observation, but she would have thought people would do anything to avoid getting hit. He just kinda stood there like if he knew it was unavoidable.
âRealized youââ It was a good thing she was still recovering from just spacing out, or she would have sent a kick his way. Catching her off guard was bad.
âYou wanna come say that to my parents? Iâm sure theyâd love to hear that story~â
«â» âI rather not.â
Considering what happened last time that involved him being told that to properly date her, he would have to get her parents approval. Ever since, he doesnât trust a single word that involves talking with their parents. He doesnât want to get embarrassed a second time.Â
âI donât want the repeat of last time..so iâll pass, okay?â
Now having a bit of time pass ahead of the fake strike and the insults and, all other things, he wanted to get a question out, a random at that, or what he thinks it is. âHey, is there anything you want to see or do really badly?â
â -{đą] âAw come on, my dad doesnât think you really like me.â
She stuck out her tongue, trying to keep the joke alive but knowing she had failed. Her arms wrapped around one of his tightly, trying to use it as a swing. His question seemed completely random to her, but she shrugged it off.
âYou mean now? Well Iâve always wanted to go to America and have some food, or maybe climb up Fuji⊠Oh the leaning tower of pizza sounds delicious too!â
Now she felt like she made things awkward and rubbed her cheek. âMaybe thinking of those things is more fun than actually doing it. I like it here, so I donât really want to leave.â
His eyes widened comically at her words. He hadnât realized that his musicâŠ.had touched her the same way hers had affected him. Her music was rejuvenating and brought life to any empty room. He wasnât really sure how to react to her words so he just nodded before saying, âUh okayâŠâ He was a bit confused when she lifted her arms, nearly thinking she was going to throw something else at him, when she held an invisible violin. Smiling slightly he nodded replying âof course I will. Youâll do your absolute best to get better, ..for me?â His question becoming quieter as he spoke.
The tenderness that came from his words surely reached her, and she couldnât keep herself from smiling. âYou should know me well enough by now. Of course Iâm going to do my absolute best. You still owe me an accompaniment one last time. Donât think Iâll let you off that easy.â It was hard not to love him. She could see exactly why Tsubaki and Watari cared so much about him. It was all his fault that she was grasping onto life so desperately now. There was so much more she still wanted to learn about him. âYou really are something special.â
«â» âYeah exactly! They all have lives that they are living just like everyone else, even if they are cartoon characters.âÂ
A smile was to appear onto his features, but only for a limited time because of the conclusion that she immediately jumped to. How did she even get to one like that?
âI didnât say that! Yo-..I donât even want to say anymore than that, I already got the feeling that everything I am about to say is about to going to turned on me.â
Which he felt like was 99.9% correct. The fake that she threw, almost, and I say, almost brought him to flinch because of the reflexes he has built up from getting punched from over the years. Not actual fighting but just playful punches which he has been trying his best to resist, even today, still he brought a smile to his face once again, to both, hide his reflexes, and because of the question. You didnât see him do that. Hearing her ask what he realized about his dating, was very simple to answer.
âSomewhat..but what happened is that I realized that I fell in love with you, thatâs what.â
â -{đą]Â âNot everything you say, but maybe most things.
He just kinda stood there like if he knew it was unavoidable.
âRealized you--â It was a good thing she was still recovering from just spacing out, or she would have sent a kick his way. Catching her off guard was bad.
âYou wanna come say that to my parents? Iâm sure theyâd love to hear that story~â

«â» âI guess that arrangement could be done.â
He knew that kind of plan was just going to end with her not learning anything from it, unless she studied over it, figuring out what was done, but it didnât seem likely that she would, but hey, hopes.
âYeah..you know itâs weird to think, that when a movie ends, that isnât the end at all, those characters live a life that we donât see..or at least I think so..was that weird to bring up?â
Kissed a lot girls? Because he was eager? Nah, that wasnât the case at all. Picking up his pace to match with herâs, which wasnât a big problem at all, he answered honestly.
âActually thatâs false..I havenât dated anyone since..fifteen or fourteen years old..but even then, I never done anything at all..â
â -{đą]Â âAh! Iâve thought the same thing! Even though no more Snoopy cartoons are being released, iâm sure theyâre still going to school and going on field trips and doing all sorts of fun stuff!â
He hit the jackpot there on what to say, and Kaori spoke passionately about her favorite series. Too bad his statement did not go the same way.
âWait a second, you mean to say iâm not your first? Your hands have been tainted by a stranger! How dare you taint me too!â
She swung her arm at him, stopping right before she was about to make contact and send him flying, and began to laugh. Being with him was just so much fun, and she wanted to enjoy the time they would have left together. She wasnât really angry at him, in fact she was glad in a way that she wouldnât be the first or the only one. That would just sound sad...
âWhat happen? Did you realise you like younger girls~?"
«â» The smack now fully reeling him back into reality, he couldnât help but smile because of it..because now, it really felt like it was back to normal. Though he still had puffy eyes from the amount of tears that he produced, but letâs ignore that for now.Â
âI know..but we donât want you to get caught by them seeing that it isnât your handwriting since Iâm pretty sure we donât have the same kind.â
Almost getting tipped over and tumble to the side a bit from the sudden movement of her pushing herself against him, he held his ground, not wanting to disappoint her from her thinking he had no balance.
â..Yeah, it is. But they also kissed too.â A chuckle escaped from his lips, finally able to joke around once again. Good thing he can recover fast, but bad thing that he was easily affected.
â -{đą]Â âWell then you tell me what to write and Iâll just copy that down. Easy peasy!Â
It was good to see him smile for real this time, and it seemed like things were starting to settle back into their usual pace. Surprised at how he stood his ground without falling over, she lifted some of her weight off him.
âToo bad this isnât a movie though,â the usual tongue shot out and she took to a faster pace of walking as his punishment before slowing down and staring at their hands in thought. Â
âYou must have kissed many girls in the past... huh? Since youâre so eager and all!â
«â» âYeah apparently..just like six years ago basically.â Just thinking back to that made him chuckle a bit, still having the slight tone of sadness mixed in within his voice. Disregarding the insult, replied- âYes I know, but itâs not like anything is going to happen to me, though you wouldnât believe wh-..â
-Believe what he has seen over the time period of his life..how could he forget that? The amount of anomalies, mythical, strange things that have happened all this time, the things that he was able to do without even knowing..maybe he wasnât helpless in this situation..maybe he was glad that she told him while there was quite a bit of time left..Now having his thought interrupted, but didnât dare not burn the thought into his mind, he was suddenly brought back to reality, now being dragged along by Kaori.
Immediately about to say no to her request, he stopped himself from spilling out his answer, and thought about it for a second. â..You write, I teach and explain..how is that?â
â -{đą] What was with the sudden change in his expression? Kaori was tempted to ask, but knew he would have already told her if he wanted to. There was no point in getting someone to say something they didnât wish to.Â
âFine, fine.. You really are stubborn!â She gave him arm a light smack with her free hand before turning her head away with a pout. âI just wanna have more free time instead of spending it doing homework!â
Silently walking beside him, she suddenly and without warning leans against him roughly. âThis is what couples do in all the movies, right?â
«â» âYeah Yeah..iâm sorry.â Pulling away now as she did so herself, he took that time to to wipe the trail of tears that were left on his cheeks, rubbing all that he could with the sleeves of his jacket. âI was just..being a little kid..â She is here right now, but how long exactly is that going to last?
Still unable to smile brightly, only twitches of effort showing that it was trying his best to get there, he responded-Â âAlright, but iâm fine with walking in the dark..nothing wrong with that.â He told the other, bringing his hand to take hers into his, his fingers taking place between the gaps of her fingers.Â
âReady?â
â -{đą]Â âYouâre always a little kid,â she grins cheekily, hoping things would get back to normal faster. She wanted to smack him for the lame attempt at smiling, but pushed that to the back of her mind and instead focused their intertwined hands.Â
âHavenât you ever heard that itâs dangerous to be out alone at night? Thereâs all sorts of strange people out there! Well-- I guess youâd count as one too, so maybe itâs not so bad.â
Tugging on his hand, she began to walk ahead and hummed to herself. Sheâd put off any sad thoughts for as long as she could. âSo... How about my homework. You gonna do it~?â
«â» Looks like she was laughing too to try and take some of the pressure of the situation off her shoulders, he just hoped it worked for her..but that was a wild shot. Feeling her frail arms wrapping around his waist, he couldnât help but just hold her as close as possible to him, not wanting to let her go, ever.
âYeah..I know..but at least just this..â
Lowering his head just a bit, he pressed his lips against the top of her head, giving it a peck. And after, he snuggled his cheek against it, falling completely silent. The trails of where tears escaped still apparent, sniffles here and there.
â -{đą] She wouldnât argue against that. Staying like this was just fine, and she didnât want to move. It was the first time she told him she was going to die, but she could feel quiet reassurance in his actions, clear and visible proof that he wanted her there.
Wanting to reach out and wipe his cheeks, she held back as that would mean having to move away. âYou donât have to cry anymore, okay? Iâm right here now.â
Hands rubbing his back, she slowly pulled away, looking up at him with a bittersweet smile. âLetâs go home now, itâs starting to get dark. I donât want you having to walk back alone at night..â

ĐœÎ±Î·Ń was surprised at the enthusiasm that the blonde exhibited. While the humble pianist was quick to downplay his accomplishments to praise his rivalâs own, there was no denying that his talent with the piano was exceptional. He felt as if he didnât quite deserve the fame attributed to him, even after he had long dropped off from the musical world to care for his sister. âIâm not sure about making the piano explode, though I feel there are others who are much more accomplished than I. I do thank you for your admiration of my endeavors.â He waved it off modestly, a smile affixed to his face all the while.
On the topic of her playing style, Hans couldnât help but be impressed at the wisdom behind her reasoning. âThat is quite an insightful thought, Miss. I firmly believe there is more to the song than what is transcribed on paper and stanza. It makes you wonder what he felt about his music, even after Beethoven lost his ability to hear.â A curiosity, for certain. He could remember the first time he heard applauseâŠhe was just moments away from breaking down and crying on stage when it first happened.
âOh myâŠâ He rubbed the back of his head, face dusted a slight shade of pink from the praise she heaped upon him. âYour approach is praiseworthy in and of itself, Young Miss. Compared to all the other contestants, you played with such passion and spirit.â Of course everyone was a winner in the end, at least in his point of view. âThe pinnacle of perfection has no final destinationâŠI am certain that in time, you will become a great Violinist in your own regard!â He told her, unaware of, wellâŠher situation.
The combinations of compliments and being called âmissâ left her gawking and smiling like an idiot. Her mind wandered off into thoughts of playing along to his music, but she was certain that would sound like a giant mess. Her destructive way of playing did not exactly compliment the pianist prodigy.Â
âAll musicians are already great! We donât need time to achieve our goal, we just need to want it badly enough.â Time could try to chase her all it wanted to, but the violinist would always find a way to slip of its grasp with a new trick. Or at least it had worked that way up till now. One canât run forever.
âYou can just call me Kaori-- Formalities arenât necessary with friends! Youâll be my friend, right? Everyone will be so jealous that iâm friends with a prodigy!â One would think she was meeting a famous singer-- Though meeting a famous musician brought her the same, or even more, excitement. âRight?â
«â» He couldnât help it. He couldnât at all. And only hearing her repetitive phrase of her apologizing only irritated him. Why was she apologizing? There was no reason for her to be sorry in any way shape or form about this, it wasnât her fault..Itâs not.Â
Jerking his hand away from her, a few more tears ran down his cheeks, dropping to hit the ground. With his hand still in the air, he hesitated in wrapping it around her shoulders, bringing the other along to hold her close to him. âShut up..itâs not your fault..why would I hit the reset button?..â
A few shaky breaths were produced, trying to grab the rhythm to allow him to talk, to speak what he wants to say. âI would never..never..I donât want to relive those memories..I want to keep creating more memories..â
And silence fell before them..only shaky breaths and sniffles that were from Rory, and after a few moments, he said one final thing.Â
âI love you..Kaori.â
â -{đą] When he jerked away, she could have sworn that was his answer, and that he wanted no more to do with her. Her heart sunk, but was quickly proven wrong when she felt her arm wrap around her.
Small arms wrapped around his waist, a nervous laugh escaping her lips. It was scary not knowing what day would be her last, it really was. There was no use in bringing him that fear too though.
âI love you too, dummy. This still means you have to keep your pervert hands off me though. Sorry to disappoint.â

ŃÏÎčŃÎčŃŃâ and free, it was clear just from the first stroke that she played, unchained by the confinement of expectations. A radical soul, one that defied convention. The faces of the judges was also quite something: a talented ear knew well when the audience was captivated by the sound of oneâs performance. Even so, convention prevailed, and it was clear just who the winner wasnât going to be. He could hear the fury in some of their voices, much more the pianistâs bewilderment, but beneath all that, there wasâŠher.Â
She made it clear that the music did not move herâŠshe moved the music.
His applause was well-earned, even though the more savvy cared not but to judge harshly in that regard. It mattered little to him whether or not the tempo or dynamics was far offâŠwith her violin, she sought her own horizons, leading her own destiny.
As it was, for him to wait for the blonde contestant after the competition. âAbsolutely splendid, Young Miss.â Hans informed her courteously. As a musician many years her senior, his compliment was sincere. âYou sure riled up the judges, I must say. Care if I may ask as to why you decided to deviate from the set piece?â He asked. Dressed casually, Hans smiled as he congratulated the young lady for her performance.
â -{đą] The clock was ticking, and her future lay in hands that were not her own. If she didnât set out now, there would never be another chance in which she could reach out to anyone. Music was the only way she knew how.Competition no longer mattered as much as it once had, the chains from the music scores released.Â
While she played, she was the only one on stage and she was the one desperately using the bow to find her sound. The judges didnât seem to find it as much as the audience did. She waved at the crowd and disappeared offstage, the only thing on her mind being what to eat after the results were posted.
Azure eyes stared at the stranger for a few moments, her face emotionless as she tried to figure out where she recognized him from. As soon as it hit her, she almost fell forward from bowing so much.
âYouâre that awesome pianist who plays likeââ Arms stretched out wide, unable to formulate a word to describe it. ââ And then you just, the piano sounds like it literally wants to explode! Iâve heard your music before and itâs like the best mix of everything you loveââ She was obviously too passionate to come up with concrete words.Right, there was a question asked she had missed.
âDeviate? Well you seeâ Beethoven wrote the piece many, many, many years ago, so by now, itâs probably been changed hundreds of times! I listened to it played by many people and I thought, I bet Beethoven wanted this to sound another way! Or maybe notâŠâ Rambling on, she finally started to drift off and was left at a loss for words. âStanding in front of you is such a big honour! Much more to be praised by you⊠Iâll never forget this!"
«â» His hands then tightened into fists, his arms tensing up like crazy over the information that was given to him, the thoughts in his mind all jumbled up, unable to place them in the right order, into what he wanted to say.Â
âI..I..I-â
He couldnât speak, he couldnât see..couldnât see? Ah..thatâs right, he was experincing something that he hasnât for time now..the natural gift of tears, tears that were now building up in his eyes. Now coming to be in denial, and at the same time accepting the fate of the other, he began to chuckle, which then grew to a laugh, lone tears running down his cheeks as he did, as he looked up into the sky.Â
âA few months right?â His voice was quick, and louder than usual, which was the only way for him to avoid talking in chunks. His hands now came up to rub away the tears, turning back into as if he were his younger self.Â
âThatâs a long time..right?â Hearing those words now caused him to choke up, his face now tensing up, his eyes trying their best not to close. He knew he shouldnât have been crying right now, he should have been the regular way he is as always, supportive and giving some great suggestions..but not now..he couldnât help it..
â -{đą] Seeing him cry only made it harder for her to keep composure. Sheâd grown use to the idea ever since sheâd heard the news from her parents, but telling him was different. Someone she wanted to stay with always, someone who had tagged along with all of her crazy plans. Now she was the one starting to cry-- what a weakling.
âIâm sorry, Iâm really sorry.â
Taking his hand, she wasnât sure if he wanted her around, although she wanted to be. She wanted to stay beside him as much time as she could. Falling in love was not something she had expected to happen during her final months, but it was a feeling she wouldnât trade for the world.
âIâll always be with you, I swear it. So... Donât hit the reset button.â Face pressed up again his shirt, she didnât want him to see her face. She just wanted to stay there, taking in his scent and mumbling how she was sorry over and over.Â
«â» And there it was, the follow up to all those horrible starters of a sentence. Things that he never wanted to hear. But it happened. Knowing what it meant if it was brought up in this kind of context, he still just wanted to assure himself..that it was major.Â
âSo..itâs very severe..iâm guessing..â
He knew she wasnât playing at all, he could feel the tremble of her hands, the hesitation that was held in her voice. He couldnât say anything really, only just trying to pull his arm away from her grasp, but not because he wanted to be away from her, it was for a completely different reason.
â -{đą]Â âThe doctorâs say I only have a few months at most.â
Saying it was much harder than just thinking about it. Hearing it aloud made her realize sheâd have to accept soon enough. A few months really wasnât much time at all.
Staring at her hands, now she wasnât sure what else to say. She wished she could break into laughter and say she was kidding, but she really wasnât. âI meant to tell you sooner...âÂ
