Pairing(s): Eli Clark x reader
Warning(s): slight angst if you squint
You watched from afar. Piercing gaze going unnoticed by the hooded figure slumped by the doorway of Emily’s room. Wincing at every pained yelp that slithered up his ears.
His posture was one of immense guilt and irritation you realized. [E/C] eyes narrowing at the clenched fists that rested on top his knees and the subtle grit of his teeth. Angry at himself for not being fast enough to rescue Martha from the hunters grasp.
With Eli being the sole survivor of a rather lackluster match against the irritated geisha, you could hardly imagine how he felt.
And no matter how badly your hands itched to caress his gloomy face, the gentle head shake Naib sent your way kept you in place.
With a heavy sigh, you gently pushed yourself away from the wall you had been leaning on. Hand shuffling through your pocket to find the worn out rag you had been cleaning with and returning to help Emma with your shared chores.
Maybe later you would be able to pay a visit to the frustrated seer.
With a giggle tumbling past your lips, you passed a hand delicately through Mike's hair as he rambled on about his near “rocket-chair” encounter with Jack the Ripper. Hands gesturing wildly and completely oblivious to the disapproving stare Emily had shot him as she tried to clean up an old wound.
Quietly removing yourself from the rowdy scene, you began to make your way up the stairs. Pressing the back of your hand to your mouth as a yawn passed through.
Pausing by Eli’s door, you raised a fist before furrowing your brows in contemplation.
Would he even be up for a small chat?
After Martha had finally been patched up, Eli had disappeared up the stairs with a thud of his room door and hadn’t come down since. The few that had stopped by to check on him reluctantly left after he refused to answer their concerned questions. They thought it’d be best to leave him alone until he was ready to talk but you knew better.
So with a determined purse of your lips you gave a firm knock to the door. Stomach pooling with anxiety as the seconds danced by.
When there was no answer, you gathered your injured pride and prepared to leave but froze in your steps as your ears picked up the slight shuffle of feet and a jingle of the door knob.
“It’s [Y/N] Eli,” you called out lowly “I came to check up on you. Can I come in?”
Silence began to fill the air once more but not long after, the door had creaked open, Eli’s bandaged eyes 'peering' at you from the darkness.
As the door opened wider, a silent approval to enter, you tried to ignore the clumsy stumble of your heartbeat; ecstatic that your attempt had been successful.
Carefully eyeing the casually dressed male that sat on the edge of his bed with his head in his hands, your previous concern washed back in like a tidal wave. Reminding you of the reason you sought to speak to him in the first place.
Finger gently tipping his chin up, you faced him with a gentle smile.
Ignoring the way the butterflies in your stomach fluttered when he leaned in to your touch.
"What's wrong?" You whispered delicately.
“It’s nothing.” He sighed heavily.
A dry chuckle fell from the confines of your mouth.
“It has to be something if it kept you locked up in your room half the day Eli.” You murmured.
Mouth opening and closing like a gaping fish, he ducked his head down before responding.
“I just wish I could have saved Martha earlier.” He mumbled, hiding his face from your view. “She got injured badly because of me.”
Your heart constricted painfully as you softly tugged the male in to your arms. Positioning his ear right above your heart as your nimble fingers ran through his soft locks of hair.
“I don’t think Martha regretted sacrificing herself if it meant you got to escape.” You thought quietly.
Slowly leaning his body away from yours, you brought his face in to your hands. Thumbs absent-mindedly wiping away the tear streaks painted on his skin.
“I know you’ve been having a bad week, but it’ll get better. “ You spoke calmly. “Martha's all better now, she would never hold a grudge against you for something you couldn’t control.”
When the slight downturn of his lips caught your attention. You proceeded to press light feathery kisses against his cheeks. Pressing a couple on to the bandages of his eyes and leaving a teasing one near the corner of his lips before drawing back. Satisfied by the red hue that began to spread and the flustered smile that titled his lips.
Hiding his face in the corner of your neck he whispered,
A/N: okay so i lied, not really, kinda. This was originally supposed to be posted Friday but I came out of an exam a while ago and felt the urge to post this so. Enjoy
