“These past couple months, you were the happiest you’d been in a while. Clarke brought life back into you. You can’t lose that, Bell. You can’t lose her.” — Greed of Grief by @virgohotspot
So originally, I had this wondrous plan to upload this on Bellamy’s birthday. That’d be cute, right? A special little day to upload the last bit of this project. But, turns out I got the numbers wrong. 😑 (Learning disabilities strike again.) I’m absolutely kicking myself over that, and over waiting so long and messing it up. So I’m sorry my plan failed horribly, but maybe posting this on BFSN might make up for it? I hope so.
The moment I heard about the graveyard scene, even before being blessed with reading it, I knew that’s exactly what I wanted to do. This particular piece went through so many different iterations, and originally it was going to focus solely on that scene, but there is so much beauty and grief in this story that I knew I needed to entangle a little bit more.
Depicting Bellamy at Gina’s grave and Clarke at the church seemed like the right choice, given how much of the story was a tie-in between these two things, Bellamy’s past with Gina, and his present with Clarke. Again, this looked so completely different when I started out, but I like this idea of the tree separating the two scenes. The tree not only highlights Bellamy’s warring emotions, but it also symbolizes life, rebirth, healing.
This is a very different approach than anything I’ve done in the past, I tend to lean to a more ‘soft’ or ‘cute’ vibe, but I wanted what I made to depict the emotion that was so integral to this story. Hopefully I was able to do that for you.
Re-live this beautiful story here.
Under the read more you’ll find one of the alternative pieces (that almost ended up being the final), as well as some admittedly busy sketches that I used a bit like a moodboard.
