Send 🐚 (or [Shell])+ A character, and I'll give a fact/idea I haven't talked about/I think is underrated about them
//Bugs, since coming up in ooc ask game chatter
"ohhh i dont know if im showing Bugs enough love compared to the rest of the group" and then i get TWO back-to-back asks about him. not sure if this means i'm absolutely FEEDING the Bugs fans or if y'all're just starved for content lmao
well not to bring up Fang's speech in December again but there's another part of her dialogue that I've always wanted to go more in-depth on.
The only reason you’ve managed to get as far into this tournament as you have is because you were carried here by your birdbrained boyfriend.”
Bugs visibly flinched.
“Face it: you’re the deadweight in your duo, contributing nothing of note to the team with your lax attitude.” She wrinkled her nose at him. “Until you start taking this club seriously, you’re only dragging Koudaka behind.”
Why did her calling Robin his boyfriend make him flinch like that?
Funnily enough, it's not what many of y'all would think.
Bugs and Robin's relationship is soso important to me. I know we're all for shipping and romance here on Tumblr and we loooove to see two characters (especially men, I've noticed) that have any sort of relationship and go "hey! you two should kiss!" And that's all fine and good, you can do whatever you want forever and ever.
But I think that a lot of the times people seem to struggle with the concept of a meaningful relationship between two characters that doesn't result in romance.
A bit hypocritical coming from the guy who writes Pokemon yuri on Tumblr dot com, I know (/silly). But people's inability to grasp the idea that a platonic relationship can be just as strong and meaningful as a romantic one is an issue that I often see perpetuated in fandom a lot, and it's always irked me.
so for me Bugs and (especially) Robin are my way of projecting lol
Bugs and Robin are best friends, probably closer to each other than they are to Rat. No one understands one another like they do. They practically complete each other. They feel at their most comfortable when they're with each other. They spend more time together than they do anyone else. Hell, on weeks where Robin’s dad is working in Victory Road, Bugs’ moms have him stay over for the week so that he isn’t home alone. So Robin basically lives with Bugs every other week.
But most importantly, Bugs and Robin have no romantic interest in one another whatsoever. They see each other more as brothers.
We’ve seen Rat allude to it before in a Discord conversation to Kat (though it was not posted in-character), but Robin in particular just doesn’t enjoy the idea of being in a romantic relationship. Like at all. Just the thought of being expected to start dating people makes Robin uncomfortable, and Bugs knows this.
So when Fang called Robin his boyfriend, it left a very sour taste in his mouth. He wanted to shout, “No! You don’t get it! That’s my brother! Don’t force that type of relationship onto us! Especially Robin!”
None of these kids really have the vocabulary to describe Robin’s discomfort towards dating yet. But it is clear that Robin is very much a romance-averse aroace individual that has had people try to shove him into an allonormative box time and time again.
So in that moment, Bugs was angry not only on his behalf, but on Robin’s as well.
