Shuffling into her own bedroom, she groaned once more as her fingers dug into the soft material of her pyjamas, mourning the loss of comfort and the illusion of sleep it provided in the moment she shed it off -- she may not have slept for more than two hours but if she stayed in it, she could pretend she had instead of picking up a discarded pair of jeans from the floor and a baggy shirt she shrugged on inside out.

Slipping back into her chair, she resumed her restful position on the table for a mere moment before Alex returned, dragging another whine from the ginger once she was forced up again, one that dyed as quickly as it sounded on her lips. ❛ You-- ❜ A spike of energy, a flash of something in her eyes, she growled at his general direction before her body deflated into tiredness anew and she fell onto his back, forehead pressed just bellow his shoulder blades. ❛ Ah, whatever. ❛ Whatever. ❜ Her hand was barely lifted of the table to wave dismissively through the air before gravity drew its weight back onto the wood, a thud, low and weak, sounding through the kitchen. ❛ I’ll praise the robot chicken that made it if I have to. ❜ She ought to suggest groceries perhaps, supplies to fill out their seemingly empty cupboards but that required going to the bank and in her exhausted, hungry state of mind that sounded like far too much effort.

A broken whine was dragged out of her by his weight on her back, another one at the thought of moving from the somewhat comfortable table, her torso rising carefully back up. ❛ Why change? Put a hat on and some sunglasses and lets go in our jammies. No one’s gonna care. ❜ She certainly won’t.

closing gaps
A war had ended and the thought of giving up on a future he had long considered himself unworthy of faded along with it. She had returned into his life, had shaken up his world in the best way possible and helped him recover what was yet left of the man he had been before everything had started to crumble. The days had wasted away, his mind had attempted to shift from unpleasant subjects that he feared to confront. Until a red-haired warden crossed his path, reminded him of a feeling he had left behind in Kirkwall, of a life-style he had never had the time to mourn.
Kain had a set train of thought, had pondered on a request, a suggestion, for ages now and all he had gained was nervous excitement and cold, real dread. In his mind, he had been what stood between them. He had done gruesome things, he had made himself unworthy of someone so good and pure, someone he appreciated more than anything else in the world. Alas, he refused to let himself allow that to happen again. He was going to make sure that he atoned for his sins, that he fought for what he felt his heart bound to.
His approach was as casual as always; he spotted her sat with a book, made his way over and placed a kiss atop her head, seating himself next to the mage with a soft smile ( a smile that always seemed to be a contrast of his features; rugged, battle-worn, torn ). His gaze set on her own face for a moment as he gave a hum of a greeting, a comforting and encouraging warmth spreading through his body to fill him with the determination he needed.
“Rose?” he began, releasing a soft, thoughtful sigh. “Did I ever tell you of my last assignment in Kirkwall before I insisted on remaining within the Chantry?” The inquiry left a bitter taste, and perhaps it held no significance he sought to share, but there were few things that he had not told her, few things that would explaining is bitterness that he was willing to share; but it was a part of his life and what had shaped him, a part that she deserved to know of, even though he had been nothing but a victim. He would hold no secrets towards her.
Things have calmed down since the war has ended and temporary peace settled within the walls of Skyhold. People were relaxed, chatty, happy, tension had rolled off the fortress like a landslide once the victory party passed and she was far from immune to the joyous atmosphere. Smiles came much easier to her these days and she spent more time than she was used to socialising and chatting with the survivors. The wardens she offered to the Inquisition had already returned back to the base in Amaranthine but she lingered behind, offering the simple excuse of tying up a few loose ends to anyone that asked; it was enough to keep people from prying into her rather obvious reason.
She stayed because Kain was there and she will stay until she’s called back forcibly or he left with her. After a year of thinking him dead, gone and another one spent worrying whether he’d survive this battle or if she’ll come out of it alive she would be damned before she would willingly leave his side again. The end of the war didn’t sweep peace just across Thedas but left her breathing easier as well, let her succumb into the joyous feeling of his company and love, returning what she hoped were the same feelings for him.
Rose didn’t mind as much; besides him, Skyhold offered a vast collection of books she could look through, some she had already known but many that were unique to her. When not with Kain or in an odd mood to socialise, she would curl in a peaceful corner of the library or in Kain’s room reading away blissful hours until someone or something caught her attention. She was in the latter that day, her attention taken once she felt a presence walk into the room and she lifted her head up once reaching the end of the page, smiling brightly and warmly at him as he sat down next to her.
Setting her book down, she leaned over while he took his time in silence, stealing a single kiss from his lips in greeting. Something was troubling him, she could tell through the small, subtle signs coming from him and concern and curiosity had her turning in her seat to face him completely, legs folded underneath her form. Once his inquiry came, she shook her had, hand reaching for one of his and lacing their fingers together. ❛ You haven’t, no. ❜ It couldn’t be good though, she thought, and a part of her didn’t want to know at all. But if discomfort and awkwardness were the worst she had to face in this conversation and if it would help ease him, she’ll endure them. ❛ What happened? ❜

she was an ounce of composure away from burning the ground beneath her. always driven by anger and violence, the joy and thrill of a kill, marian hawke was the last to refuse battle when everything made her want to tear off skin and to splay blood everywhere– yet there she was, disappointed in herself and the world, not finding it within herself to so much as return the favour of a fight. was she a good believer ? her faith was strong but it did not preserve her then. the maker turned before her existence began and yet she felt as though she only now was abandoned.
perhaps she wanted to join his side, the fabled peace and tranquility a welcome thought amidst the chaos, perhaps she was desperate to put order into what little she could yet change. anders was important, the last thing she clung to. carver was out of reach, perhaps he had always been, everyone else was dead and rose was the last to understand her thought just then. he was all she had. it bubbled up in her chest, that warmth and pressure she knew from little occasions, bringing forth flames, a magic she had never been able to control and one that she still could not bend to her will. it engulfed her hands, soon, singed her sleeves at first but soon burned them, set them ablaze while her fingers curled into fists and she heaved a breath. as if she needed a staff to destroy something, as if she needed spells to do harm. if rose wanted to see this through then she would be stepping past her corpse.
She was toying with fire; in literal sense as well in metaphorical. Marian was raw power, unchecked and wild, deadly, violent and ruthless in its destruction. She could level cities with her capabilities, crush anyone underneath her like paper and Rose was aware who she was facing. But for all her perceived kindness and calmness there was rage buried deep within her, old and wild, one that had only been fulled by recent wounds that was beginning to crack and break from inside out, one that begged to be unleashed onto the world for every past, present and future injustice brought upon her. She had lost everything before she knew she could, a family she could barely remember, friends she barely had under times that had stripped her of everything she knew. She had no one outside of the damned Wardens but Kain -- and now he was gone, too.
Because of her. Because of the man she’s protecting.
Marian was a fucking hypocrite.
Fire blazed in her vision, she watched it burn its master and she saw it consume everything around her -- a slip, and it would grow out of her control. A spell slipped loosely from her tongue willing the ground underneath her to tremor softly, disturbing the soil and cracking the rock as an Earthquake rumbled in a radius around her- It would affect her too, she knew, but she was prepared for her footing to slip and once the ground shook her off, she stumbled, gripped the branch of a nearby tree and abandoning her staff struck still where it was in favour of keeping a small level of balance.
