while a lot of traits tend to be associated with gender expression, that doesn't mean the trait itself is gendered (for example a muscular persons body has nothing to do with their gender presentation, they can be fem/masc/neither, and thats not based on physical traits)
breaking gender norms inside your mind is a slow, but necessary process
a society without expectations such as these, and without a strong focus on gender, would be better for everyone
i actually quite like the different sized eyes design trait that caine originally had based on his 2d design
i think it adds to his eccentric personality
the show used this trait for quite a bit at the start, from the early show clips i noticed that when he was looking around his eye sizes would switch from one to the other so it wasn't really important which eye, just that one is smaller
but in the latest episodes (5-8?) his eyes are pretty much always the same size, i assume for consistency and so that its easier to animate
i think both are neat, this is just something i noticed, I'd love to see what other people think about this
plus, at about the midway point, his eyes became bigger like many other characters too, possibly because it makes them look more appealing-
aka, from what i heard from the lead animators YT channel, some of the animators made the eyes bigger, and the idea was well liked so thats what they went with later on too
at first i was a bit put off by it because sometimes the eyes looked too big, but i got used to it now
it has also stabilized in episodes 7-8, for example zoobles one smaller eye is back to being small

i feel like a lot of people brush off his death in favor of focusing on other things, but to me thats the most shocking thing that happened in this episode

i really hope the other members will care about his death, acknowledge it, or maybe feel bad for him in the last episode
because no matter what he put them through, he was just as trapped as them
they don't have to forgive or excuse him, of course not, he used their biggest weakness against them

but at the same time, the circus members have been really empathetic towards eachother, especially pomni
jax got grace, gumigoo was sympathised with, so would sympathising and trying to understand caine suddenly be too much? even despite him hurting them?
how he treated the others was terrible, but having some sort of pity for him would be logical, would it not?
that after processing and being rightfully angry at him-
they'd feel sad about who he ended up becoming in the end, and how now, he'll never get a chance for redemption again, simply because of an accident
this was never meant to happen, and yet it did
----
you can dislike, or even downright hate a person, but not wish death upon them, or think that its righteous or justified
two wrongs don't make a right, after all
----
so what now? they'll probably rebuild the circus how they want, and stay there, since they're most likely digital copies of the humans minds, so they don't have any other choice but to accept their fate
but it would feel... off, that it would happen after- or even because caine is gone
as if he, somehow doesn't deserve to be there with them, and feel happy with them, and as if his insecure mind was right all along, that they would be happy without him
this would be a bittersweet ending, but mostly bitter, nobody got what they truly wanted, but they found peace
and caine wouldn't be there with them, because hes gone
and even if he wasn't, their goals were too different, his happiness would contradict their happiness, and the opposite

then again, he wasn't killed because of vengeance, it was an accident
now, they'll have to accept that he died, never getting to become better, to improve
that sometimes a person can die at their worst
----
of course hes an ai, in the show that is, but to us hes a character just like everyone else in the show, human or not
hes not just an ai, and his death isn't unimportant
he was the binding piece to the story, exploring different kinds of issues from everyone else in the circus
his story is something to learn from, a cautionary tale

i understand why a lot of people are disappointed, but i think him dying makes his character just so much much more significant
i liked caine before, after this episode he might as well be my favourite
his character portrayed perfectly what its like to feel inferior and like youre not needed, and like everyone hates you
