cape town lyric breakdown
okay what’s up fellow ryden trash i’m here today to explain the whole cape town ryden thingy
basically ryan left panic and went on to be in a band called the young veins (v nice and chill band)
there’s a song named cape town and it’s very very gay and very very emotional i’m here to explain why
ok so first off i'm gonna explain the chorus because it’s by far the most unsubtle part, basically, panic’s last show with ryan ross and in the band was at cape town in South Africa, but what if cape town in the song doesn’t mean cape town? It could easily be a metaphor for panic, the band itself.
“I saw you, I met you
I loved you, I left you in Cape Town”
the chorus is basically saying Ryan met Brendon through panic and etc etc kiss kiss fall in love, he then left him in cape town
hopefully this makes sense i’m literally writing this in my social class right now
next i’m going to explain
“Woke me in the morning
Asked me if I meant it, I didn't”
a quite widely shared interpretation of this is telling brendon that he’s leaving the band or doesn’t love him anymore etc. etc, basically, i think an argument may have gone down the night before
what’s interesting is that brendon kinda replies to this through the vices and virtues era song the calendar
“There is simply nothing worse
Than knowing how it ends
And I meant everything I said that night
I will come back to life
But only for you”
ahh im gonna cry this is like a big fairy tale thing like “i will come back to life” fuck off brendon its not like you died
“I hardly knew a thing about you
I got lost in Cape Town, in Cape Town”
this lyric is pointing towards the start of panic where brendon was just some kid replacing a guy who plays guitar in the band for a bit, it’s saying that ryan didn’t really know brendon much at the start of the band but he soon became v good friends with him (even more) and got lost in panic and his surroundings and soon everything in his life was pointing towards panic and brendon
the following is the last line
“Went out to a graveyard to bum a couple flowers
To give to you
When I got back to Cape Town“
i’m completely guessing what this could mean but a good guess is that he’s sorry for leaving brendon etc idk
i promise i’m not a gross cringe who still believes ryden is real this is just pointing out what the lyrics mean and how significant it is to the ship
