Remembering the journey - ARR Post 2
After helping Papashan, another Lalafell named Cicidoa flagged me down. He asked me to run an errand for him, and I agreed. It was a long walk with the big pumpkin weighing me down! I delivered the pumpkin to a local tavern called the Coffer and Coffin, and they thanked me for delivering it. Then, he told me of a location where I could find some work - Black Brush Station. Roger told me to check in with a guy named Warin when I arrived there.
Warin wanted to inspect my gear, assuming that it was not good enough to throw some balls of fire at Coblyns. How offensive. At least he had good intentions. I took the job he offered to clear the train tracks (that don't look much used...), and I made quick work of it!
After receiving payment for clearing the train tracks, I heard from another Lalafell called Zuzumeda that a merchant was looking for sell swords to guard his interests in a silver mine in Sil'dih. I was willing to check into it, but I was leery of getting involved with it, seeing as I am a member of the Thaumaturge's Guild that is largely funded by Lord Lolorito!
I walked back to the Coffer and Coffin to meet with this "Wystan" who thinks himself capable of competing with the likes of Lord Lolorito.
Quite full of himself to think that Brass Blades would be adequate protection. He dismissed my interest in his protection detail, and instead offered to pay me to look after some orphans that were somewhat dependent on him. I had already ran all that way, so I thought I might as well take the gil. While I was seeking my remittance from Wystan, his hired detail burst into the tavern with news that his silver vein had been confirmed by the survey team. He invited me to come along with him. I was curious, so I decided to tag along.
When Wystan arrived, we discovered that his surveyors had been sorely pummeled, and the Brass Blades he had paid were to pummel Wystan, too. Even though I did not want to get involved, I couldn't allow them to kill a man just because he was wanting to make the world a better place. In the heat of the moment, I decided to intervene.
Before the Blades could land a killing blow on Wystan, a gnarly rock golem arose out of the dirt! The Brass Blades fled, but I vanquished the unexpected monster to save both myself and Wystan. However, I fear that this might implicate me in Wystan's affairs to my own detriment. Wystan paid up, and he advised me to talk to Momodi about it.
Momodi calmed me down and said that no one had mentioned my name in the news surrounding Wystan. (Phew!) She told me I had done the right thing to protect Wystan, and then she even set me up with an inn room in Ul'dah. Its the nicest place I've slept since the calamity!
