Here's what we do.
We're gonna keep it real. Not interested in campaigning. Not interested in smearing. Not bothered if Vision Vancouver wins city council or the NPA. Frankly, I've voted the last two elections for Mayor Gregor, the one before that for Sam Sullivan. Before that? Nada.
So anyway, this is an odd election because I feel like Vision has become very corporate, and that the NPA, after last election's spanking, have figured out they need to come to the middle.
When two party faithful came out with a stance that was non-gay-friendly on the school board recently, the NPA let them go. That was the right thing to do.
When a Vision candidate was found to have a past that included writing lesbian erotica, she 'chose' to step down from her candidacy. Nobody on the NPA insisted on that. And Vision didn't seem to fight it.
To me, it seemed to characterize my feeling that both parties have bounced off each other in the middle, and maybe even switched places a little.
So, for me, the election will be all about who's keeping it classy. NPA nominee Kirk Lapointe has said he'll resign if any of his people launch personal attacks. He's asked Vision to agree to a similar pledge. They haven't.
To me, that's not progressive, and it's why I started digging. It's why I decided to step up and spend a little time ensuring truth is front and center, and those who choose to smear are properly named and held accountable.
If the NPA starts into this kind of thing too, I'll create a second Tumblr pointing it out. But so far, to my surprise I'll admit, they haven't.
Interesting.
So here we are. Your contributions are welcome. Your attention encouraged. Let's get to the bottom of stuff, eh?
