Gimje Horizon Festival takes place at Byeokgolje Reservoir, the oldest irrigation facility in Korea with nearly 1,700 years of history. The reservoir was used for holding water to cope with water scarcity in times of drought. Although most of its original form has been destroyed over the years, Gimje was able to establish itself as the top agricultural region in the country thanks to Byeokgolje Reservoir.
