how does one know if they are great?

people are always telling me that they see something in me, or that im different or that i remind them of someone they once knew who went on to achieve greatness in  life...but how can i know for sure? ..i dont feel great...most of the time i feel inadequate... sometimes ill make something and people will tell me how great it is and how i have a "gift"....but all i can see in my work is flaw...and error..do most people misconceive mediocrity for greatness?? or do they see things for what they really are even when the artist doesnt??....bottom line of this pointless rant is...do the things that people say to and about us hold some sort of astrological value??..are they foreshadowing the future....or is it all just nonsense?
