The Muji Polypropylene File Box in Wide fits gratifying sideways on the smallest 6 inch deep shelf.

I particularly like them in clear, which is really more translucent — and in that material they go really well with the standard off-white.

These are slightly (0.6in) too wide to fit three on shelf, though. Alas.

Do you have a small object that you’d like to display and it has a hanging loop on the top? (Maybe a Venetian Carnival mask of Pulcinella?)

I like to use simple magnetic hooks in a basic white so they are easily repositionable and cleanly displayed.

(Or maybe you have a Moretta, the "mute" though in that case you'd have to add ribbon through the eyes to hang it, since it's held on with a button in the mouth; though in that case the hook is atop the shelf, hidden by the books above.)

I have a bit of nostalgia for old Dymo embossed labels, and was curious how the various different devices actually worked.

So I bought one of each and did a series of tests. (If anyone would be interested in seeing them all compared side-by-side with notes, let me know and I’ll put together a more involved post. There are only a few different typographic options but they are really very different from each other. Despite the many variants available, most produced extremely similar imprints.)

In the end my favorite was the tiniest Motex, officially known as the “Motex Embossing Label Maker.”

I only use the uppercase one. (It comes in a variant with an upper and lower lowercase wheel, but because of the way changing the wheel works you can’t practically change from uppercase to lowercase on the same label so the lowercase one is not super useful. I’d suggest saving the $2 and sticking with a single wheel.)

The example shown in the picture is a clear substrate, stuck to a small piece of 3/8 inch magnetic tape so that it’s easy to reposition on the shelf.

Do you have a cord or a wire that you’d like to hide next to your E track but it’s a little too thick to fit in the channel or it would have to route out and around as it passes below the cabinet?

Try using small splint loom tubing. Shown is 1/4in size.
