Normally when you were offered a tour, it was to help you get your bearings so you wouldn’t get lost when you went to places by yourself. No one ever expected to get lost on one, especially not around a school campus.
But Mimi Villanueva was lost in her new school campus. She was probably on the edges of it, stuck in an old building. She didn’t even remember which way was back to her residence hall because she had been too distracted in trying to answer her tour guide’s frequent questions. Unfortunately, the tour guide had seemed more interested in conversation than actually guiding her around.
She tried to remember her calming techniques. Do not open your mouth. Breathe deeply. Count to five. Accept your situation---
“How do we get out of here? Why did you think going down into this basement was a good idea? We started out in the afternoon, you know, and it’s been a few hours--will we have a lot of sunlight? Oh my God...” Her voice was flooded with panic.
Twenty-six hours, she’d been here. She’d been counting. All she wanted was to be able to go look around Angelwood, since she’d missed all the orientation tours at the start of the year, so her settling in wouldn’t be so difficult later on. She wouldn’t have to burden or depend on people to get her around for a week. But now... now, she regretted not doing that in the first place. It was better off than dying in some dilapidated---
Breathe. We are stuck, and we are lost, but we’re not going to die. Someone is going to notice we’re missing. Angelwood is not that big.
“I...” Mimi struggled for words, but she needed to keep her mind off the negative thoughts. “What exactly is this place used for? Why did you bring me here, for the tour?”
