It's my cat's birthday (anniversary of me getting him) so I told him the story of his life while petting him real good

Highlights include:

For your first two years (when you were small) you lived in a foster home with people who raised you into a very polite young man. Two is like you plus me, that's what two is.

Some people adopted you before me and they called you Timmy (which is a stupid name) and they returned your ass almost immediately because you were so annoying at that age.

Like think about how annoying you are right now at seven years old, but way worse.

I'm better than them though, I don't call you Timmy and I wore earplugs to bed for three years because you love to scream at bedtime. Earplugs are like when I roll over and go back to sleep even when you are yelling so so so loud.

I got you at a time in my life when I was really sick (being sick is like when I'm up late because I'm throwing up and you are a very handsome good boy who sits with me) and they had to put me asleep for a procedure. A procedure is like what happened to you when they put you asleep and took your balls away.

Now you've lived with me for five years. Five is like the number of toe beans on one of your feet. When I clip your nails five is when we're halfway done. But we're hopefully not even halfway done with how long we get to be together. I'm gonna have to figure out new ways to help you count.

i decided to let my spamtenna hate post out of disabled reblogs jail because of that one ask the other day, and it took less than 24 hours for someone to try the "well of course they're more popular its because these characters are ADULTS and people want to make PORN!" argument again. which is a terrible counter argument for fandom misogyny for about a million reasons. but the thing that really gets me about it is like

people are of the opinion, will argue on behalf of the opinion, that it's just a completely reasonable and straightforward fact of life that people will want to produce and see pornography about these two characters in such high quantities that it outpaces 7 years worth of of shipping fanworks for the main cast.

like it's an argument coming from a world where These Two are just so innately erotic and alluring that it just isn't possible to suggest in good faith alternate explanations for why these characters got So Disproportionately Popular. mhm. uhuh. yep yep.

i think out of disrespect we should just start using "spamtenna moment" as shorthand for when a nothing tier yaoi ships between side characters somehow manages to eclipse in fandom popularity all of the central character relations of both the main cast and the rest of the side characters that aren't men. i think this should become such a widespread and entrenched form of fandom lingo for insulting ships that the next generation of teens will grow up understanding its meaning and not its origins in the same way teens of my generation used adjective!character parlance long before ever learning what bang paths were.

shit like this is so fucking intensionally dense. femalash fans are some of the most consistently dedicated and passionate people in any given fan space. and it literally does not matter how much they make and share because, until people who are interested in female characters are not the significant minority in literally every fan space with meaningfully mix-gendered casts, it will never ever be possible for us to produce enough fan works to make up the difference. do you understand that? the gap between how much fan interest there is in female character vs male characters relative to their respective screentime is massive and acting like you can bootstraps you way out of cultural misogyny is just fucking vile. the reason you can say that m/m fans are "actually making art" with the implications that fans of female characters aren't is because like everyone else you're not interested in going out and looking for it. it exists.

language ideology is a fascinating thing. i was with my mom and brother and we were comparing different actors who've played jean Valjean in Les Mis, listening to different versions of Bring Him Home. you know, normal family activities.

so i say oh i gotta show you this one version- and i pull up Þór Breiðfjörð's INCREDIBLE performance from the 2012 Reykjavik production of Les Mis. i didn't tell them what it was, i wanted them to experience it fresh.

as soon as it became clear that it was in a different language, my mom starts- i kid you not- LAUGHING. then she asks me "what is this"? like what do you mean? it's Bring Him Home from Les Mis, it just happens to be in Icelandic! but my mom immediately loses interest, and i turn it off.

it's just another example of what anglocentirc culture does to our brains. anything that's in a different language- especially a non-global language or minority language- is treated as a joke, not serious, or "lesser than" content in english. it doesn't matter how mind-blowingly gorgeous Þór Breiðfjörð's voice is (i honestly think he rivals Colm Wilkinson), he can't be that good because he's not singing in english. this is why we NEED more visible multilingualism, and a total re-evaluation of our anglocentric language ideologies.
