‘‘God, I wish,’‘ Helene spat back rather quick, ready to tear apart whoever of her family had came in to irritate her even more — but the second she turned around, it was a complete stranger. Unless there was another distant aunt they hadn’t introduced her to yet, but judging from the woman’s next words, she was sure she couldn’t be family. Unlike this gorgeous, her family would do anything to spite her. ‘‘Nonsense,’‘ she repeated, taking it with a light laugh, ‘‘I call it fuckery. They’re just out to get to me,’‘ the woman heaved a sigh with a roll of her blue eyes, not directed at the brunette but at the whole gathered group of people that were mainly outside. A change of feeling shifted in Helene’s mindset at the request – for once she got asked to do something instead of demanded, and she appreciated the stranger already. “Of course, just give a minute,” the woman quickly got to work, making sure to do everything perfectly now there were eyes resting on her. The second she had mixed the beverage, she turned towards the other and poured it into her glass right in front of her, if only to impress her a bit maybe. “Men… if only they knew how unnecessary they actually are. I most certainly don’t need one in my future. I rather be the talk of the family than to be unhappy with a man I despise with every vessel in my body.” she opened up a little, her own cocktail in hand as she then sipped from it, staring at the kitchenware across from them.
“Fuckery?” Vivian repeated with a warm laugh. “My, I have not heard such a word before. It’s...refreshing.” She watched as the other woman rolled her eyes, appreciating the rebellion in her blood. Blood she could both hear pumping through veins, and smell. The sweet intoxication a dull reminder of her vampiric existence. The brunette bounced her brows while humoring the Rockefeller heir, “At parties such as these, everyone is on their best behavior. Rather, donning their masks. It is a bunch of bullocks, if you’d ask me. Half of the guests here will go afterwards to their private parties, gamble and curse, and sleep with whomever isn’t their beloved.” In all her years, she had seen this sort of behavior repeat itself. And she was not altogether innocent of the act, herself. “Thank you,” the vampire said with another timed smile, sliding onto a bar stool beside the kitchen island. Her eyes never left the blue ones across from her, observing how they danced away only to slide back. There we are. “Are you sure you’re not a part-time bartender as well?” Vivian asked after she took the first sip, reveling in the taste. It wasn’t as tasteful as she imagined the woman’s blood to be, but she was content for now. “You are gay then?” The question was simple, but bold. Despite times changing, it was a subject to tread lightly upon for most. “Welcome to the club, darling,” she said with a wink, raising her glass to provide a toast. When everything settled, she had to wonder, “If you weren’t under the eyes of your parents, and the legacy of your last name, what would you be doing?”
