After returning from that sea, we were all alone.
As if we had all planned to, we didn’t contact each other. The graffiti left on the street, the brightly lit gas station, and the sounds of the piano heard from the worn out building were the only ways we could guess at each other’s existence. Every time during those moments, the afterimages of that night returned to me like a hallucination. During that time, a photo had fallen. In that photo with the sea as the background and everyone posing, we were together and laughing.
I passed by the gas station again today as well. One day there will come a time when we will meet again. A day will come when we will laugh just as we did in the photo. A day will come when I will gather the strength to face myself entirely. But right now, it wasn’t that day. Today a damp wind blew, just like that day. The next moment, my phone rang as if it was a warning. The picture I stuck on the rearview mirror shook. Hoseok’s name appeared on the screen.
