Draining and paving wetlands is just about one of the worst ideas ever. When water can disperse along a winding waterway into soft soil it slows it's movement way down. Slow water deposits sediment instead of eroding it. Plants can grow in it that clean the water and trap more sediment. That increased soil absorbs and slows extra water when there's a larger rain than usual and buffers the effects of even torrential storms.

Fast, straight waterways remove soil, and don't give water a chance to soak in. Often insult is added to injury by paving and armoring the banks (ostensibly to reduce erosion) removing any possibility of absorbing and slowing extra water. Any increase in precipitation upstream means a higher water level. A storm means catastrophic flooding.

Draining wetlands doesn't make more "usable" land, it sets the stage for tragedies.

At age 13, she unearthed a skeleton of a giant marine reptile, one of the first ichthyosaurs. In her late twenties, she discovered Dimorphodon, the first pterosaur found outside continental Europe, on the beach cliffs at Lyme Regis. I do think "literally zero evidence indicates that gatekeeping medical transition does anything to prevent regret, but the harm done by gatekeeping is extensively documented" is a much stronger argument than "regret isn't real" cause there's always going to be some anecdote that puts you in a weak-looking rhetorical position for the latter, but the former is pretty unassailable.

a misogynistic society is so threatened by the concept of trans women - women that "had the opportunity" to be privileged men and chose not to - that they start making up privileges women have in order to explain why trans women exist. going into womens restrooms isnt a privilege, playing womens sports isnt a privilege, lesbianism isnt a privilege, yet they present them as such to try and explain why trans women are women for nefarious reasons. a misogynistic society will never understand that trans women have no ulterior motive for being women
