the boyz and feminism!

now, i have said this before but truly, stanning The Boyz was one of the best decisions of my life. especially in terms of kpop.

now dont get me wrong, im not attacking other boy groups, but when it comes to properly representing and covering female artists, The Boyz takes the cake.

here is their “The Boys” by SNSD (dance) and “Lupin” by KARA (dance and vocal) cover. when i first saw this my heart instantly warmed. usually, boy groups cover girl group songs halfheartedly, jokingly or they change the choreography to be more masculine. but this? they have all the dance moves down to the bone. they absolutely slayed this cover and you can really tell how hard they worked and how serious they are about it, and idk, watching a boy group taking a girl groups song that seriously?? makes me feel empowered as fuck because yes. the boyz worked hard as fuck to do SNSD and KARA justice. makes me very happy and proud.

here is their “What Is Love” by TWICE (dance and vocal) cover they performed in Taipei!! again, the dance is extremely accurate and they work very hard to channel TWICE’s vibes and emotions whilst performing the song, truly respecting their work as artists instead of covering it like a joke.

not only this, but there are English VLives where the English speaking members openly speak about Beyonce and how empowering she is for feminism, Taemin’s “MOVE” and how it challenges gender roles, how Disney’s “Mulan” is such a good film because “it’s very feminist, woo!” - Kevin, black panther and how amazing it is for cultural representation in hollywood and so much more that just gives me faith in humanity.
