08. Backwards + 09. Scribble Out

Chat, I am grasping at straws. This purple cat and my sketchbook,,,, fszbgbsggmf

Anyway, I had a particular reason for drawing Kitty for "Backwards", and paring it with Black Friday (from Black Friday). One idea i've explored for them is them, perhaps, having previously been human. And not remembering their life from then, but knowing that they HAD a life, then. I imagine Kitt, in this song; in the animatic that only exists in my brain, finally getting to see what life used to be like for them. Looking backwards, and learning what they've been wanting to know for a while. And,, feeling almost empty after. They've been chasing a dream, some kind of hope that, maybe she was important.

In the song, Lex is having a moment where she's about to die, and putting things in perspective in a very "Life flashes before your eyes" kind of way. And theres this beautiful little medley near the end of the song, where her voice takes this softer tone. And she talks about her sister, and the sense of responsibility she feels towards her...

When I imagine Kitty, "Lucia" as I've come to call her pre-demon, in this song. I imagine that Kitty is singing about Lucia. Herself, that version of her she didn't really know about, not intimately. She knew of her, but didn't know her. That self they used to be, that past they've been chasing... It turned out to be such a useless endeavor in the end.

ANyway. Do you guys like demon catgirls? I do. :3

07. Disproportionate

Another hobby of mine, recently, has been bracelet making and braiding. I've been saying forever I'm going to make a rainbow bracelet, but I haven't gotten to it. I have all the pieces to make one now, red to violet. I had to braid those first, since some of the colors, I only had embroidery thread instead of yarn. So, to keep everything within the same aesthetics, I braided all the individual colors.

I'm counting it as my entry for #7, partly because I'm struggling to come up with a good idea thats reasonable to do within my time crunch AND fit within the prompt. And partly because I always estimate wrong. I try using the arm method, usually. But then I fuck it up somehow. ♡

For anyone who's curious, the green is the shortest piece, and the indigo is the longest.

06. Transfer

I keep compulsively feeling like I need to do something really big for these prompts, full illustrations and such. And I feel, like... Bad??? That I'm not???

I'm trying to keep it simple for now. For my sanity.

This was literally advertised as an "achievable art challenge", BUT I FELL INTO A TRAP OF MY OWN MAKING. YOU FOOL, VOICE, YOU'VE COME TO ATTRIBUTE YOUR WORTH TO FULL WORKS, INSTEAD OF LETTING IT BE.

One piece I have for my niece and nephew, if they get frustrated about something not working out for them. "It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be."

Sometimes, it's really hard to take your own advice. ^^'

Actually Infected 2025 : 04. Spilled/Stained - 05. Lopsided

My main thought for this was "Kids make messes so easily". I was going to have my niece and nephew help me with a project outside, draw on the porch with some chalk, and spill water on the drawings, to make a makeshift painting with the colors we could pick from it. But then it started raining and I was getting anxious about how close the end of the month is. So I just drew Kyon and Thea cleaning up a spill, instead. :)

The drawings also turned out kind of lopsided, so I'm counting that too. I could NOT, for the life of me, make something that looked right to me.

Actually Infected 2025: 03. Out The Lines

I don't like how this one came out, and it didn't really live up to my own expectations. the idea was there, and its still there, in my mind. Wonder from P5X, in a Kagerou Days inspired illustration.

I like parts of it, I was really excited about the coloring I did, I even went as far as to slightly and seperately redesign his in game sprite because Persona charachters are so unbelievably pale it's ridiculous. I like the stupid jellyfish esque mullet I gave him, but i don't like how it feels like what I wanted to convey isn't there.

At some point though, I was spending so long trying to get my thoughts in order that it's already October 22nd, and I still have the rest of the prompts that I want to do. I find irony in the idea that I still struggled with an art challenge that was achievable, not by the challenge itself- but within my own self-imposed rules and complexes. So maybe it's okay I don't think the drawing fit within the lines on what I wanted.

The prompt was based around drawing outside the lines, after all.

Actually Infected 2025: 02. RIP/Tear

Entry 2 is mini animatic of After All, sung by Christine Ebersole! I've thought about this song for Luna and Crescent for a while now, and I honestly doubt I'll ever make a full animatic. So it all just exists in my head. But this pair tears me apart so I figured it was fitting. <3

After All is such a good song. Not to Death Of The Author, but I really enjoy how you can make this song fit whatever view you want for it. In the context of Crescent, I imagine it from a major Postpartum Depression and Generational Trauma lens.

Crescent was told all her life that she would have to have a child at some point, not just for an "heir", but also because she's a woman. Her own relationship with her mother was far from affectionate. And I think a part of her wanted to love her child, prove that such a simple task wasn't so hard. But here she was, an emotionally stunted woman with a screaming stranger in her arms. It wasn't Luna's fault, she figured. But she just. Couldn't bring herself to love her. Not the way she thought she was supposed to. It leads to their distant relationship in the future, and if I ever actually sit down and write a story about them. I hope they both manage to heal and learn to love eachother in the way they can.
