"Oh, so that's where he ended up."
i think you can be 40 and have a coming of age narrative
some hacker took over an old mutuals account but whenever it happens, i like to scroll all the way back to remember exactly who they were. lol.
just dont mind alder and t h e g h o u l gardening over there, everything is fine
Despite the conjecture of the people Ghetsis had always intended these contemptible hands of his to cultivate. It was a far-reaching consensus that he had been driven only by the insidious seeds of evil, patiently awaiting the most auspicious moment to subvert their fragile peace. But there had once been those who had foolishly believed his preaching, hapless trainers who looked to their methods and questioned their morals. In a way, like he was now, he had been cultivating then too. With a diligent hand he tended to the fertile soil of Unova that had been thus far neglected, guiding those without a purpose to call their own to a prosperous future. It all seemed so futile now, shrunk until it could be contained within the confines of a lacquered flower-bed. He had watched Alder assemble it too, not offering even the slightest bit of help. Selfish until the end, it was almost infuriating that the retired-champion refused to acknowledge it. Ghetsis had come to the conclusion that he must have gotten a kick out of it━ he wouldn’t put it past the mulish old bastard. “ Do you intend to stand there all day.” It wasn’t a question but the warmth ushered in alongside his company was a begrudgingly welcomed distraction. The more he toiled, the more his hands shook, defying his will. It roiled within him, that pitiful incompetence. Age had caught up with him, wreathing his hair with strands of silver and turning his very hands into obstinate defactors. His tone is sharp with irritation but his mouth remains in an immutable smile. “ And here I had presumed you enjoyed being helpful.” A packet of forsaken seeds sat on the edge of the bed as the invitation was laid out before him; a slave to his pride until the very end. He would never ask for help, if only to deny Alder the chance to wear that gratuitously triumphant grin he so loathed. With a vague hand gesture he beckoned him over, unable to fully accept the absurd reality that the two of them would be spending the afternoon planting seeds; for the future━or something along those utterly inane lines.
It was something to distract him; how "the mighty" had fallen. After so many weeks of suggesting that of which Ghetsis could do in his plentiful spare time, he seemed to finally give in when Alder decided of his own volition to assemble flower beds.
Of course the former Champion would say nothing about it, he knew how fragile Ghetsis' pride was that if even the slightest hint of reliance on another, or giving-into a whim were to be made evident, then he would pull away five times over. So Alder had never made his intentions clear, simply doing and allowing the other party his own space to cast his influence over it. Even though Ghetsis was far from a fool and no doubt knew the reason for his companion's newest hobby, he could at least pretend it was otherwise, and that he'd not been playing into his hand.
So now Alder stood as casual as could be, large arms crossed over his chest as he basked in the light breeze and the brilliant sun. He was supervising, naturally, but to make it come off as less... "parole officer-y", he pretended he was merely enjoying the beautiful day.
A stark contrast to Ghetsis, cloaked from head to toe in thin cotton fabric and a large hat, not a single bit of skin exposed to the light.
"Haven't I been helpful enough?" He rebuts, unable to keep himself from a nostalgic sort of playful competitiveness.
Their lives had taken them down very different paths, and by no means should Alder have ever been expected to show mercy to Unova's number one enemy... but he was sentimental and foolish at heart. Perhaps a case could be made for him if he admitted that all of this was being done for selfish reasons.
Still, understanding the indirect want for help, Alder gave-in. He moved to kneel beside the man, grabbing the packet of seeds and giving them a curious once-over. Better to focus his attention on them than the way his companion's extremities trembled.
"Can't be so hard, can it? I mean, what, do we just sprinkle a few seeds everywhere?"
He's already tearing into the packet, peeking inside and even gently pouring some of the small seeds into the palm of his hand, which he then holds out for Ghetsis to scrutinise.
"You think these will grow well with whatever else we're planning to have?"
Thought about. Th thhought about
Thought about someone riding alder while he's like sat in a chair so his hands are helping move them up and down. and their legs are straddling his waist and also theyre pressed against his tummy. 🫡
i was showing ray and lala ponytown and someone recognised my alder lol
Unlike her trainer, whose mouth curled in an amused smile, Misha remained distrustful of the boisterous dog and equally as boisterous man ( @volcalder ). She was a wary feline by nature, far more inclined to blatantly ignore someone than acknowledge them. The fact that she had regarded Alder; even if she were leery of his solution, was no small feat on his behalf. How could Grimsley not laugh at her expense, with her pelt remaining bristled as she circled his legs, her tail twisting around his calf as if to anchor herself.
❝ How irresponsible of you. ❞ His tone was hardly chiding, settling a hand between Misha’s ears even as the tip of her tail lashed back and forth indignantly. Alder’s presence always ushered in a predictable, comforting warmth. It was something in the crinkles at the corners of his eyes as he smiled, or the sturdy line of his shoulders that shook when he laughed. Grimsley had spent a great deal of his life seeking out these tells, and all that he had determined of the champion was that he was a good person. Genuinely, authentically, despite all odds. ❝ How is it you always find yourself roped up in things like this, it’s as if trouble has a way of finding you. ❞ It was one of his finer qualities. Grimsley, as a veritable addict when it came to trouble, really, really liked it about him. ❝ That’s you, by the way. ❞ Now he was regarding the Herdier who squirmed in Alder’s arms, even when it stopped barking it was still brimming with energy, nipping exuberantly at his hands. ❝ Trouble. ❞ Affectionate as it was Grimsley did not lower to the canine’s height, nor did he extend a hand to stroke its disheveled fur. A distance was kept between them, wedging himself between the two opposing forces, and with Alder sat comfortably in the grass that became all the more noticeable. ❝ She’s a lot tougher than she looks. ❞ Misha turned her attention to him, taking a great deal of offence in the fact that she could apparently not be both tough and graceful. Grimsley stroked the silken fur between her ears in lieu of an apology. ❝ Me on the other hand? I wouldn’t be so sure about that. ❞ He extended his hand towards Alder with a certain flair, revealing the red-weeping lines. ❝ Looks worse than it is, though. ❞
"When one puts themselves into the world, the world has a way of finding them!" Comes the amused response, the explanation for Alder's dubious 'luck'. What Grimsley saw as misfortune, however, his former Champion saw as experience.
When Grimsley focused on the canine, it grew excited anew, wriggling under Alder's hold only to quickly cease when it realised the man was not going to be giving-up hold of its scruff so easily.
Alder's stern expression softened when he noticed the dog heel. Respect was a two-way street, even between people and Pokémon, and if the stray Herdier didn't want to be hoisted up and taken away, then it shouldn't misbehave.
Thankfully the message was clear, even with the language barrier. Miraculously, the excitable pup sank down onto its haunches and sat. Its tail wiggled and collected dust from the path under it and Herdier twisted its head to start lapping at Alder's forearm-- causing the hair there to all lay in the same direction.
Now the older man wasn't just satisfied, but smiling. He hazarded an attempt at letting go of his problem friend, and when Herdier immediately sat up to bolt forward he simply grabbed its scruff again and made a discouraging sound. Again and again he did this, until finally Alder could raise back up onto his feet and be confident the dog would not move. If it did, he only needed to stick a leg out to keep it from bolting forward.
Then he held out his hand, finally giving attention to Grimsley.
"I know she's tougher than she looks, I worked with her for years." He glances, amused, at the kitty's pulled-back ears and makes a 'psps' sound to try getting her attention, "Shouldn't you know how to take the high-road by now, Misha? Or is this a Dark-type thing?" He smirks, then laughs at his own joke while also pointing it at Grimsley. The two of them were similar-- even though one was doing the swiping, and the other was being swiped at.
"Little diva... But she's sure got some sharp claws, Grims, you should get this washed out fairly soon."
oh both ghetsis and alder were taken out in one swoop.... bengas left all alone going ??

posting alder with dog due to recent events
All that warns Grimsley of impending doom is the sound of hurried footfall coming ever closer. Extremely hurried footfall. Maybe a bit-too-fast footfall!
But when he would raise his head to see it, the beast would already be upon him...
A shaggy Herdier had dart right for Liepard, barking like a mad dog when it got close to her-- trying to nip her feet and herd her.
In the distance, an out-of breath old man. Calling over the din of a reactive pup: "Herdier!! Cut that out!! Over here-- now!!"
Liepard was a sleek, elegant creature; as aloof as she seemed imperturbable, that was what made the flurry of moment and the shrill yowl she let out all the more startling. In an instant her fur bristled, darting out of the herding dog’s way and behind the legs of her slack-jawed trainer. The dog, unconcerned with Grimsley’s attempts at separating them, continued its single-minded pursuit. Each contested for a glimpse of the other, Liepard dashing between his feet, the Herdier but a hair behind. Between the dog’s excited barking and his partner’s hisses of protest Grimsley almost missed the voice raising above the cacophony. It was hard to discern who it was until his silhouette eased into focus, hands splayed on his muscular thighs, chest heaving with exertion.
❝ He’s one of yours !? ❞ A useless, lithe hand swatted at the dog, catching a wild swipe to the back of his knuckles from Liepard and recoiling with a fresh, crimson series of bleeding lines carved into his skin. ❝ ...help ?! ❞ Grimsley behested, making a vague gesture with the currently bloody hand, his eyes never quite prepared to stray from Liepard, her teeth bared, hackles raised. This was certainly some sort of reunion; there was no genial ' hello how have you been ? ' but rather the clamor that tended to follow in the champion’s footfalls, oh, how Grimsley could have laughed at the absurdity of it all were he not entirely occupied.
Look, it was absolutely Alder's fault that the wandering Herdier he found ran off from him and began menacing someone else's Pokemon. But...
He laughed and laughed. He laughed even though he was out of breath, leaving him lightheaded as he finally righted himself to jump into action and begin circling around Grimsley this way and that to try and catch the dog. "He's not mine exactly, but--!"
With a grunt, Alder got down low and wrapped two arms around the offending Pokemon's waist, "wheelbarrowing" it all the way back until it was far enough it wouldn't be a problem. In this position it also couldn't turn around to nip at Alder, and as an added bonus... it was confused. So confused it stopped its barking!
So Alder, still wheezily laughing, put its hind legs back on the ground and plopped heavily beside it on the ground, one large hand curled in its scruff to keep it in place.
"Whew... I just found 'im! And I had no idea you were over here! That's a good dog, it smelled her from a mile away!"
He pointed to the funny Liepard, nearly twice the herdier's height, huddled behind her lanky owner's legs, and then changed that point to a loving scratch atop the Herdier's fuzzy head.
"Oh, I am sorry though... And Misha, is she alright? I've got to get this pup leashed up but after that I can take a look at you two. I feel bad!"
literally alders backstory
"I didn't realise it was slam poetry day!"
(The voice of a man who just walked into Grimsley, Caitlin and Shauntal speaking like they came straight out of a storybook.)
