a lot of people make their relationship exclusively about tom mooching off abraxas's riches — and don't get me wrong he DEFINITELY does but i really like to rub salt in the wound by tom convincing abraxas they had something beyond that, i do headcanon they met around second or third year because abraxas found some sympathy for tom being the loner loser he is but also abs noticing he had been gaining attention from other boys such as dolohov, avery, lestrange. and of course tom didn't deny becoming 'friends' with a pure-blood as valuable as a malfoy. i'd like to note i enjoy the idea of abraxas being weird as well don't get me wrong, ive thought about the idea of him being rather shut in & it effecting how he himself made friends along with family pressure. the two definitely talked about subjects that would raise eyebrows to other students and professors; dark magic, soul splitting all that Tom Riddle™ nonsense

due to abraxas befriending him on his own accord rather than being drawn into by toms manipulation like the other knights were, tom found this incredibly charming that anybody like a malfoy would have enough self respect to even talk to him in the first place. thus tom didn't trust him but kept him around, but abraxas did really find tom interesting as a person. i absolutely love the idea of them studying together extensively and that's how the two began a mutual understanding of the other, and tom likely demanded abraxas go ask slughorn weird questions about dark magic so he didn't catch on about his own foul play

now, their romantic life has always been fuzzy because i'll be one to admit i just want to see the two kiss but i think it took a LOT for tom to even consider pursuing him in such a manner, whenever they'd do anything such as kissing i think tom would have to make sure he's in a situation where if anybody were get hurt - it'd be abraxas (poor boy definitely got lured into creepy forests and high towers just to hug tom) it was all control, only the desire to have the control over somebody significant yet vulnerable as abraxas. as some self indulgence i think there was feelings on toms end, just very blurred to the point where he refused to even let himself think about abraxas when he was alone in the orphanage out of fear of being liable to being backstabbed by him out of the blue. tom found it amusing the fact a pure-blood like abraxas could find tom that , well appealing lol? not as though he was complaining internally, it felt nice to have somebody worshipping him beyond the knights following his orders

that's all i've got for now,, please send me headcanons or your personal thoughts on them! i'd love to piece together an au that makes somewhat sense

MWAHAHHAA YES I DO (evil maniacal laugh)

They are crazy about each other but will always act like they don’t give a fuck about the other. Tom was originally invested in Abraxas because the Malfoys had high standing in the pureblood world, and Tom was curious. Tom had already befriended a lot of purebloods, mostly because those kids wanted to defy their parents or something like that. But Abraxas was different. Abraxas actively opposed Tom, not in a bullying sort of way, but as if he were begging for competition. From this, a sort of rivalry was born. And it picked up FAST. People talked about the two Slytherins who couldn’t stop bickering in potions, exceeded broom-speed limits on the fields even when told to stop, ect. They got cooped up in detention numerous times, but Tom always managed to charm his way out early, leaving Abraxas in the dust. He had this smug smile that just infuriated Abraxas. Overtime, whatever their relationship was began to take form. Tom was curious now, how far Abraxas would go to prove him wrong. The two ambitious boys were the only ones who could push each other to their limits. Somehow, overtime, this became something more than just a roommate-classmate rivalry. Neither are sure when, but it happened.

Suddenly they were both avoidant of each other, but that made things worse, because that gnawing hunger they had for the other ate through them. And then, just like always, tensions rose and snapped and the cycle repeated. It didn’t matter how many times they tried to push away from each other, they fell back into the same old routine. They hated it, and at the same time, constantly wanted more. They were jealous and possessive but it was mutual. Their rivalry continued, but now with more heated undertones.

In the end, Tom is angry when Abraxas married off. He knew it would happen, but it doesn’t make him any less mad about it. He ends up taking it out on Abraxas’s son, Lucius, who he ends up treating pretty badly, humiliating him on numerous occasions. He hated how there was this boy who looked so much like the man he had loved. He hated it.

Hcs:

• Tom calls Abraxas by his last name whenever he wants to taunt him. He calls him “Abby” when he wants to demean him, which he does a lot. Which Abraxas is alarmingly not as against as he thought he’d be (it wasn’t THAT often but the times that it did happen were funny, in my head anyway) (also Tom just has a thing for humiliating people, friends or not. He’s weird like that idk what to tell you)

• Tom is fucking insane, even as a kid, and Abraxas actively encourages his bullshit. Like all the time.

• Abraxas was not a part of the Knights of Walpurgis meetings, Tom had given him an invite but Abraxas had refused because he didn’t want “hand outs from a half-blood”. But then he’d wait outside the meeting room doors for an hour or upwards so he could walk back to their dorm together

• Their study sessions were INTENSE. It was either they locked the FUCK in and got a scary amount done in one sitting, or they end up making out. lol.

• Abraxas and Tom play wizard chess against each other every other weekend and when Tom wins, Abraxas crashes out and when Abraxas wins, Tom gives him this icy death glare and doesn’t talk to him for a few hours. They both have very fragile egos and temperaments.

• Tom learns very quickly how to deal with Abraxas’s fluctuating moods and anger, in a way nobody else really can. He doesn’t always use it just to soothe Abraxas out of pure care for his friend, sometimes he’s just a manipulative bastard

• they sneak into the forbidden section of the library together on numerous occasions

• when their roommates are asleep, they sit outside at night and smoke cigarettes while they vent to each other. It’s not really emotionally packed venting, more like whining and complaining. They are too scared to be genuinely emotionally vulnerable, but it’s closer to emotional vulnerability when they’re together than with anyone else

• Abraxas secretly but also not so secretly spoils the shit out of Tom. Tom just barely hints at something he wants, sometimes without even knowing he made an implication, and Abraxas will buy a shit ton of it. He acts smug about it after, Tom thinks it’s pathetic and a little sickeningly endearing

They are so toxic and horrifically stupid and just terrible to each other. It’s one of my favourite KoW ships! ❤️ (I normally don’t like ships like this ok but it’s like they both suck and nobody else sucks enough to stoop low enough to be with them…so they get each other now…ykwim??)
