Playing Time as a Freshman on JV

I'm a freshman on JV. I am on a team of 14. We have mostly sophomores and 4 freshman. I start and I am 1 on a court of six girls, which are mostly sophomores. I fight for my playing time. In practice I work my butt off. I keep integrity and grit. I know what I want so I don't wait on it. I take it. A few weeks ago I was battling with a sophomore that I worked harder then and had a better skill set than for playing time. She is the coaches favorite. She was playing over me and I wasn't having it. So I definitely took my talents and held them to myself. I asked the freshman coach if I could play with them for a game and if I liked it I would most likely move down. We easily won the game. My coach then saw I wasn't having it. The very next JV game I took my rightful position back on the court.

Relationships with teammates.

It's important to keep a good relationship with your teammates. In order to have great chemistry on the court you have to have good chemistry off the court. When you are friends with the people that you are on the court with it'll connect better. You will be comfortable with them enough to have fun. When you have fun you'll do better 8/10. So my advice to you : Keep a fun relationship with the people you play with competitive or not.

Traveling in Sports(:

Personally I LOVE traveling and playing the sport I love. I believe it as to be investing good in yourself. I've always loved traveling, but when I combined the sport I love and one of my favorite things to do I fell in love and started working harder. Although it might be expensive, it is worth the coin. You get to see and understand things you wouldn't usually try out. You can visit places and museums that are too far to go usually. If you have friends on the team it'll be even better when they want to go with you instead of being trapped in a hotel room for the stay. It's so fun and HIGHLY recommended.

Bad Refs):

If you have a bad ref there's really nothing you can do but play your best. You will have to keep your composure and stay mentally strong. It's hard but being an athlete is hard too. You'll have to overcome this. My personal bad ref challenge was at a volleyball qualifier in Atlanta, Georgia. It was my 14's season and my team was not mentally strong only a select few of our team was mentally strong. Our ref called everything on us and nothing on the other team. We lost the first set bad. The second set same ref called everything bad n us but we were able to pull it out of there by making it obvious we weren't doing anything wrong...we won. The ref got yelled at and switched out. We won the third set easily without the ref calling everything on us. A bad ref doesn't always determine the game. Most of the time you do, and when they do determine the game..take the graceful L and work harder.

Sports injuries are NOTHING to play about. One injury can ruin your career in any sport and your body for the rest of your life, but if you're lucky it'll just be something to overcome, heal, and take a lesson or 3 from. In some sports it won't be bad. In volleyball the most common injury is ankle sprains. It feels absolutely terrible. It'll hurt like hell and then swell up so bad you can't walk. My 2 most recent were both on my left foot. 3 months ago I came down on my teammates foot. She was in the net which is illegal and on the opposite side of the net than me. I ended up falling and on the floor crying. It was one of the worst pains. Took me 1 month and a half to heal, and even then I still wasn't fully mobilized. Now 4 days ago I reinjured the same ankle still not being fully mobilized. Not as bad as the first but hurt like HELL. I'm recovering and still playing on it.
