Nightmares are a normal occurrence when you fight in a war, Lance knows that. He’s not the only one that has them. Sometimes he’d wake up in the middle of the night because of one and, if the darkness of his room was too suffocating, he’d wander the castle until he feels sleepy again. And it’s during those walks that he meets up with the other paladins. Shiro is the one he sees the most, and sometimes he meets Hunk and even Pidge if she isn’t stuck next to her computer.
But having a lot of nightmares doesn’t mean you’ll ever get used to them. You can never be at peace with waking up in a cold sweat, crying and grasping the sheets like they’re the only thing that anchors you to reality.
Unfortunately, those aren’t the worst ones. He can handle them after crying his eyes out. The difficult ones are those that make him jump awake, his senses all messed up and with the memories of the demons he was dreaming of still so alive and vivid in his mind that he doesn’t know where he is for a couple minutes.
“Shit,” Lance whispers, pressing his hands against his face as he sits back on his bed but the quiet word sounds like a thunder in the dead air of his room. He can’t calm down. His head is pounding as fast as his heart and it feels almost impossible to fill his lungs with the oxygen he so desperately needs.
Part of him knows that he is awake. The dream can’t touch him now. He can’t acknowledge that, however, when Keith’s blood still feels warm slipping through his fingers and the weight of his body feels unbearably heavy in Lance’s arms. A whimper slips through his lips and it’s like that is all he needed to let go of the gripping pain in his chest.
The tears start flowing and Lance doesn’t care at all.It’s so liberating, to let go after all. With every tear, the sour aftertaste of the nightmare is being washed away and he can breathe again. It’s freeing.
It seems like hours before he stops crying and he can honestly says he feels better. Better doesn’t mean he is fine, though. There is still a feeling of uneasiness that eats him from inside and that’ll stay with him for days.
He’s aware of that. It’s what Lance experiences everytime he dreams about someone dying and the only thing that can make him feel better is staying glued to that person until he forgets. But he never did it for Keith because, well… he is Keith. Lance would die of embarrassment before following him around like a lost puppy.

They said she couldn’t go back to being a private investigator. They said that she had to find a job that was far more inconspicuous. It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t her fault. She didn’t ask to be put into the programme. It was a bad run in with organised crime that led to her having her life upended and brought to a state so far from her hometown that she may as well have been in a different country. If anyone had asked her a few months ago, she would have been able to say that she had her whole life figured out. Now, she wasn’t so sure anymore.

Lance has had it with the inconsiderate people who lived in his residence hall. Not for the first time, he had to stay in the laundry room, waiting for the people using their dryers to collect their laundry.

There were several things that Keith loved about Lance, his partner. Not boyfriend, or husband or anything like that, just partner.
He loved the little things. He loved Lance’s face, his dark intense eyes, that changed their shade of blue depending on his mood. Lance had beauty marks all over his skin, one behind his right ear, one on his cheek. Keith loved the cheeky smile that stretched real wide. He loved Lance’s smile, how it showed off his pearly white teeth. He loved how Lance brushed his teeth in the shower just so he could feel like a genius. Keith loves Lance’s scruff before it ends up just being patchy and soft.
Keith loves his partner’s jaw, how it’s sharp and soft. He loves Lance’s nose and how they squish their noses together and whisper “i like you” to each other in the dead of night when they both can’t sleep. He loves Lance’s neck, and leaving small tender kisses down the length. Keith thinks Lance’s neck is long and loves how it stretches to thin collar bones. He has an unscathed body but his shoulders are littered in blotchy freckles, hundreds of them that make their mark all the way down his biceps.
Keith loves Lance’s swimmers body, not because it’s a hot body but, because of how beautiful Lance is. Long arms and legs and a long torso and everything about Lance is long. He’s tan and long and has just the right amount of baby fat along his hips, his long torso to long legs, legs that go for miles, Keith thinks he’s adorable. He loves Lance’s giggling when Keith tickles that baby fat and squishes his sides and ribs.
Intimacy between Keith and Lance are soft touches in the morning, wine shared late at night, the silly sensation in Keith’s stomach when Lance tells Keith he likes him.
Lance smells like honey and fresh cut grass, laundry detergent, and lavender. It’s Lance’s face in the dark light when they whisper secrets to each other that makes Keith’s head spin. Lance’s pinkie intertwining with Keith’s pinkie is their true intimacy. It’s the act of falling asleep in the warmth of one another on the patio when it’s hot outside, an innocent intimacy.
It’s sharing french fries and soda from the same cup, it’s two left feet and dancing anyway, it’s Lance’s fingers going through Keith’s hair at every moment. Their intimate moments are shared as partners in crime, best friends, nothing more, nothing less. It’s confessions late at night about their celebrity crushes and who they would kiss, marry, kill.
They lay on their trampoline in the middle of the night and watch the stars, they wonder if life exists in space, or maybe they already know it does. They talk about conspiracies and theories and try to contemplate life as their eyelids get heavy and brains shut down for the night.
It’s the argument of what color Keith’s eyes are- violet or grey, maybe indigo. Lance walks into the kitchen and lazily wraps his arms around Keith’s torso and holds tight as he murmurs sweet nothings in his partner’s ear in the morning. It’s when Keith sits on the counter and swings his legs, watching Lance make breakfast while dancing to the radio in the corner.
It’s the home they bought, it’s the marriage certificate on their wall, just so they could file for joint taxes because, why do you need a paper to say you’re in love? Intimacy is their small little home, filled to the brim with adorable moments and songs sung in spanish and curses yelled out in frustration as Lance wins Monopoly once more.
They have their song, the song that plays on the radio every morning, the same indie station with the same 15 songs all day and they hear their song over and over but they don’t care because it’s their song. Intimacy between Lance and Keith is staying up late to hang fairy lights on their balcony and bedroom ceiling, it’s giggling and throwing toilet paper at each other at Walmart, walking down the street while chatting about the weather, making horrible friendship bracelets and desperately trying to wear them anyway.
It’s the choke in Keith’s throat when Lance says that he likes Keith, over and over, in the dark of their bedroom, both of them staring at the glow-in-the-dark lights on the ceiling. Its when their fingers intertwine and Lance feels heat in his stomach because he really does like Keith.
And the intimate moments are almost like their souls, weaving a masterpiece of red and blue.
Keith is red, he is angry, he is hot. His face is angry, he’s always yelling, his voice is rough and wet and filled with sobs, he’s such an intimate color, red. Lance is blue, he is calm and collected. His face is solaced and he’s always smiling. His voice is smooth and dark and he is such an intimate color, blue.
Intimacy is the fact that Lance is Keith’s best friend. It’s when Keith’s nose and lips settle against the crook of Lance’s shoulder when they sleep, it’s when Keith’s arms know the familiar warmth of Lance’s stomach. It’s the fact that Keith’s palm knows the warmth of Lance’s palm, the calloused slide of Lance’s fingers, the smooth skin of his scars and damages.
It’s when Keith’s heart beats double-time when Lance smiles or his eyes light up, when Lance’s laugh turns into a cackle. Keith’s heart settles when Lance’s chest presses to his back, when Lance’s nose smushes his, when Lance whispers “i like you” in the dark in their pillow fort, those are their intimate moments.
Keith lays beside Lance, watching his partner sleep. He’s never told Lance he likes him, Lance just knows. But, Keith leans forward anyway, pressing their noses together and smiling lazily as Lance only stirs slightly. “I like you,” he whispers softly. “I like you, I like you, I like you…” Once more. “I like you.”
And his heart skips a beat when Lance cracks and eye open and nuzzles closer to Keith. “I like you too.”
