of course, it is more than obvious to him now that the game was barely his to build. he, chosen catalyst though he is, is a very small piece of a much larger puzzle, and try as he might to cobble the pieces together… he knows the full picture will never reach his eye. he is not shadi, and he is not the pharoah. he is merely maximillion, so he manipulates what pieces he can.
he knows, too, that he can see more than most. pegasus tents his fingers thoughtfully and leans back in his chair, affording axel the hint of a smile. “no, no… i understand,” he answers, and his voice is smooth. calm. a state of mind only recently achieved, despite the world’s best attempts to sabotage it. “i know it seems excessive. maybe it is. when it comes to duel mosnters, it’s better to be more careful than to hesitate. there’s much more here than meets the eye.”
there was much axel didn’t understand , even about duel monsters , only from his own experiences could he truly comprehend it’s extent. dark world had certainly been one of those instances , he was aware of the dangers of dueling , the life and death stakes , even before that he put himself through rigorous training.

the damage isn’t something he has the right to think about , it was just another thing that would drown his rational thinking , it would lead to hasty decision making and inevitable downfall. his father taught him to always keep a level head , not to give into fear , as it only made the shadows of his fears gain life. his pain , his guilt and sorrows , was that something he was scared to think about ? is that why he pushed it down. it wouldn’t change anything to think about it , yet , his subconscious always plays those scenes in his mind , what a heartless boy he was , all for the sake of survival.
jim isn’t trying to pry , he’s not forcing anything on him , and that’s why he doesn’t feel the need to pull away. it’s almost comforting , had his heart not began to throb , painful memories making their way back to him. it was a weakness to be vulnerable , yet , with jim , he didn’t feel like he had to be anything but him , he felt safe enough to drop the weight from his shoulders , unburden himself , despite everything he’d been taught he also knew even the strongest of men needed a time of rest.
