Ah Ryung in Ep. 12Â đ
some time around 2017...
            with @asteraeis
Weary eyes stared ahead at the high way while her fingertips ghosted over the wheel, turning the car into a route she is only almost confident with navigating in. With an elbow up against the window, her temple was pressed against her knuckle, displaying a product of laziness and exhaustion that she let function her driving. What a day, she thought. Not even the radio can muffle the voice of her editorâs scolding at work earlier. It only took a remembrance of that meeting for things to flood her head, like a flicked off pebble triggering the rapids of a raging river. Negativeness such as her alleged shortcomings as a writer and altogether as a person swirled around her darkening mind, further dividing her focus on the road. Feeling herself tensed at the image of her bossâ face flashing in a blink, she glanced away from the road for a second -- a mistake.Â
Something leaped out from the trees, the wild bushes. Before she realized it, there was a loud bump against the hood of her car. Fuck. Even though her eyes widened at the momentâs surprise, everything zipped past before her sight that she only caught a blur of what she accidentally hit. Out of reflex, she jerked the wheel to the further side, making the tires screech from the drift on the asphalt as the car halted in a slanted position. Both of her hands clutched down tightly on the wheel, holding onto dear life even though itâs already too late. Dazed and with a shaky breath, she fumbled for her seat-belt and quickly stepped out of the driverâs side, almost tripping on her feet as she did so.Â
âWhat did I do...â she asked herself in a whisper while approaching the damage. Upon finally catching sight of the âthingâ she let out a sharp gasp and covered her mouth with her palm. It turns out that she did not hit an animal or a small vehicle as she had earlier hoped. Soojung actually hit a man, a guy with her car. What a day indeed.
Before panic could push another cry out of her, she checked first if the coast was clear. No witnesses, good. Soojung then knelt down beside the male who was lying unconscious on the ground and checked for a sign of life by pressing her fingers over his jugular. Thereâs still pulse but his heartbeat is slow. Heâs alive..! She celebrated for a second and also caught him breathing. Her eyes scanned over him and immediately felt something was odd.. or wrong.Â
Nonetheless, she tried to get him to respond and nestled his nape onto her palm, âCan you hear me?... I.. I think I have to bring you to the hospital. Please.. can you answer me?âÂ
âČ1 ⊠2âł Another Tale Untold.
the beginning to an end for @daiseunâ .
At around 4:00pm in the afternoon, Soojung entered the premises of the orphanage Eunjinâs father had told her the night before. She could still hear his voice in her head clearly as if heâs just sitting on the passenger side of her car. When he had recounted the first day he and his wife had first met little Eunjin, Soojung could not forget the wistful look in his eyes.
The front yard was decorated with trimmed bushes where an assortment of colorful flowers grew. Tall trees stood by at random spaces, giving shade to the children that are currently running around in their own worlds. Laughter, bickers, and teasing rung in the air and just from watching them in passing, she felt a refreshing gust of ignorance and innocence. Some were playing in groups while there were ones who just sat by themselves idly playing with a toy. Soojung suddenly clutched tightly onto the wheel when she saw a short-haired girl on the swings by herself and she couldnât help but picture a much younger Eunjin in her.
Now, itâs like she is reliving those days again for her father as she padded up the steps of the establishment that looked much more of like a small, humble manor from old Europe. Soojung walked up straight to the reception desk where a girl whoâs probably of the same age stood up quickly to attend to her.
âGood afternoon, miss. May I know if you have an appointment or meeting today?â The girl politely asked,
Soojung offered her a smile and replied, âIâm afraid I was not able to give you an earlier notice for this. But as a proxy for a good friend, may I know if itâs possible to discuss a personal matter with your manager?â She hoped she sounded formal and friendly enough with her request and she adds, ââ or uh, anyone who I can talk to regarding childrenâs records?â
The girl obviously contemplated for a moment and from the way her brows have creased, Soojung knew she doubted her, yet surprisingly, she reached for the telephone anyway and inquired about the current availability of the person on the other end. After giving her instructions, Soojung walked down to find the right door. Upon finding it, she gave the door two gentle knocks and then stepped into the office sheâd been redirected to.
âìë íìžì.â She greeted the old man with a sweet smile behind the old oak desk and then gave him a bow, promptly introducing herself. She read the narrow, rectangular plaque on his table, where his identity in this orphanage was engraved on the stainless steel: Song Jiho, Administrator for Records, Social Services
âItâs nice to meet you, too, miss Jung. What may I help you with today?â He squinted behind his thick-rimmed glasses, but retained a particularly kind look on his face while he captured Soojungâs appearance to remember.
âI went here for a friend, sir, and I was wondering if you may help me gain more information about her..? Her name is Eunjin. She goes by Lee Eunjin today. â She swallowed, but kept eye contact. Â Soojung caught the aged man frown and he lets out a sigh while his eyes briefly averted hers, âIâm sorry, dear, but we cannot disclose such confidential information to you unless otherwise-â
With her head slightly bowed apologetically, she cut him off, âPardon me, sir. But..But this was a favor she personally asked from me. I donât think I will leave without learning anything.. for it is too much for her to bare to come here herself.â
Albeit boldly, Soojungâs eyes met the elderâs pair with hopefulness. She did not waiver with her emanating determination and her humbling confidence brought her head to another bow in expression of her gratitude towards the elder whom sheâd received nothing more but a nod later on. Jiho pushed himself up from his worn out leather chair and walked up to one of the big stainless drawers. He drew out a folder and Soojung figured that it must be Eunjinâs documents.
He opened the folder and quickly scanned the first few pages before he started, âHer real name is Jung EunhaâŠâ
đ„ A Toast for the Celebrant
181231 Soojungâs speech for Roa during her birthday party.
â Â Our dear Roa, weâre all more than happy to be sharing this night with you in the celebration of your existence. Arenât we blessed to have your radiance and energy in our lives?Â
Well then, I do not want to take up too much time and make this quick. Roa and I have been inseparable since the day weâre introduced to each other. I especially felt awkward at first, not knowing how to blend in exactly with my fatherâs side of the family. But ever since sheâs stuck by my side, Roa made me feel more and more at ease. She made me feel that I belong, by always including me, inviting me, and thinking of me. She may be my dongsaeng by five years, but she took care of me well and comforted me at my most anxious times. That is just one of her many ways of showing her adoration for you if youâve known her long enough. She definitely has a sincere heart. We may not believe her at first, but her determination is always stronger than our doubts. For that, Iâm also proud of the woman sheâs grown to be. Sheâs already demonstrated to us the measures of her talents, skills, and intellect at an early age, but I know thereâs still a lot of potential waiting to burst out of her. She is still yet to arrive at her prime, but for now I believe we should all let her be and enjoy the ups and downs of her youth; of every laughter and heartache. Because my dear, from your ruins will rise your greatest legacies that will leave a mark on peopleâs lives along the way as you grow up.
Unknown to her, Roa also made me feel motivated to become the person that I am today. She probably doesnât know that sheâs also influenced me to stay in track, to do what I have to do, to do it good, and to do things right. Sheâd often say, âI want to be like Soojung eonni one day!â proudly at that - and honestly, my heart is always moved as if Iâm hearing those words from her for the first time. However, her words are more than simply a wish or an exclamation. To me, they are an inspiration to do good. I also acknowledge her whining as words of encouragement for I always kept her in my mind, thinking that I wouldnât want to disappoint my dongsaeng who looks up to me.Â
So to end this, this is your Soojung eonni letting you know that I cherish you so much, dear cousin. I am thankful for an infinite amount of things that youâve done for me and given me, and that includes your special Christmas gift. I think that was the warmest and most precious gift I have received this season. I will definitely keep it safe and use the camera for good memories similar to our whimsical childhood filmed in there.Â
I love you so much and happy birthday. Letâs start our new year together with lighter hearts! â

âis there someone else?â
She was standing by the one of the huge windows of his suite as she talked into the phone, her arms were crossed over her stomach while her right hand held her smartphone to her ear. She was staring at nothing in particular though the lights of Seoul made her eyes glimmer, all the more with the help of whoever she is conversing with on the other line who managed to make her laugh and giggle.Â
Once the call had ended, she was still smiling while walking back into the living room and she instinctively patted her cheek with the back of her hand as it actually felt a little sore from all the grinning. Upon looking up from her phone, the maleâs eyes were already transfixed at her as if she was some sort of target he has been anticipating for.Â
âUh, hey..?â Soojung greeted him softly with a now confused look on her face. There was a pause for a while, and despite being a little slow, she felt that there seems to be a weight in the stretching silence between them. Then it arrived, the response that she did not see â or never saw coming.Â
âis there someone else?â he asked plainly in his usual, gentle tone.Â
âsomeone⊠else?â she parroted the last two words, but slowly. âwhat do you mean?â she took a couple of steps closer towards him, hoping that he would expound on his question.Â
â please just calm down now. â
âShe said no.â Soojung stepped in between the two, seething as she faced the male perpetrator who reeked with the intermingling scent of tobacco and alcohol.Â
Soojung knew beforehand what she was getting herself into and once she has started, she is just the kind of person who will stand her ground until the end regardless of who she is dealing. At least, right now, the current circumstance has given her an easy one; a man not too young to be stopped at the entrance of this quiet lounge. He is also someone whose smug smile was glowing with aged male entitlement which has been so tempting for Soojung to slap off his face. Given this Soojung also considered that he must be old enough and capable to acknowledge the other womanâs refusal to his advances â which annoyed Soojung even more.Â
Upon noticing their little scene at the bar from her own table earlier, Soojung cannot just sit down and do nothing when it started to drag on. Hell, she might not even be able to sleep at night if she had let this pass. Hence, she stepped into a business that was not her own to fix and boldly started scolding the middle-aged man once more, âAre you deaf or something..?!â
At her obvious rage, she attracted the attention of the other customers whose murmurs have grown from their own tables yet they sounded muffled to her ears except for the voice of the woman sheâs trying to defend, âplease just calm down now,â she pleads, and for the first time, she takes a look at the woman behind her and quickly understood the manâs objective. The woman is pretty, beautiful, and she has this aura that is radiating a disarming sort of charm. For a quick second, Soojung thought, âthis must be elegance personifiedâ.
â I didn't think you'd care. I'm thankful nonetheless. â
His words made the edges of her lips curl up slightly.Â
She looked at the male and tipped her head to the side, âIâve learned that words tend to be futile,â Soojung begins, âSo.. I just act on my thoughts instead of vocalizing them first sometimes.â She nods while a mild smile widens across her face.Â
âListen, I donât often do this, and I never wanted to barge into anything thatâs going on between you and Eunjin, but I hope that my efforts of waiting for you here have made some sort of impact.â She felt firm about her statements yet Soojung attempted..or hopefully managed to come off gently about it, âAside from the things that Iâve heard, well, I already have my own ideas about you.â In a pause, she stared towards the arriving train and then back at the silent man sitting beside her, âI never thought youâre bad for her, you know?â She swallowed, âI mean how can I? when all I can see is how you make her happy. With that, I just canât help but also feel concerned with you.. or your feelings?â Her shoulders shrug, â..but yeah.. considering how long this has been going on, I want to let you know that I am here for you both. For you, too.âÂ

TIME: 8:30
It was her standard time out â her time-out.
Meanwhile, most of MBCâs employees have already stepped away from their stations before 7:00PM as courtesy and merely just out of respect for the work place. However, Soojung has obviously gone past the tolerance. Sheâs aware how much sheâs enslaved herself to her work already and she wasnât the only one who knew of this since sheâs formed friendships with the cleaning personnel and security guards in the building.
âIâm going home tonight. Iâll see you whenever? .......Okay, bye.â
After the brief phone conversation with her roommate, Soojung finally arrived beside her car and dropped her iPhone X into her hard-earned Chanel tote. She was about to reach for the remote of her car when she felt a presence behind her.
Suddenly. everything and nothing zipped past her. But a word from her didnât even stand a chance when she made the first mistake of turning around to acknowledge the unknown fellow. Soojung was first greeted by a tall male holding a white handkerchief. The garment looked so immaculate, but little did she know that it held harmless poison that took her to unconsciousness in a matter of seconds.
--- TIME: unknown.
She smelled leather. She took another whiff and her brows furrowed when she caught another aroma that she couldnât put her finger on just yet. The strain in her neck was the next sensation that drew her attention, making her realize now that she had fallen asleep in one of the most uncomfortable ways.
For how many hours now? she wondered, feeling drained of energy.
The muscles in her shoulders felt sore and her wrists have grown numb. She tried to move her arms but saw that she was bounded too tight with high quality pull-tight plastic seals when she opened her eyes. Her vision was still hazy, but like murky water, a movement made the picture clear.
Soojung brought herself to sit up straight and blinked quickly until she was sure of who she was looking at. A tall man stood before her. He looked broader now with sharp, masculine features. Then she couldnât help but think about the last time she met him. A couple of years ago, he was just a boy that time, astute with kind eyes, and despite his aversion for smiles, he surprisingly became Soojungâs source of comfort.
Yet with the way heâs looking at her right now, she could barely recognize the look in Song Gunheeâs eyes. This wasnât the up and coming philanthropist sheâs seen in the television screens anymore.
â i am a great person. â
âThe Grinch thought he was, too.â Soojung quipped while sashaying past the other, rolling her eyes when she was certain the male wouldnât catch it.Â
Soojung picked up the first magazine on the neat pile fixed on the center table of his living room and made herself comfortable on the couch as she crossed a leg over the other. The female took in a rather deep breath and finally shifted her scrutinizing gaze towards the younger companion, letting him know that she is listening. âAnyway, what makes you say that? I take it that you actually woke up on the right side of the bed today, huh.âÂ
She blinked at him and then picked up on the magazine spread she had left earlier. Her eyes was busy on the models posed on the print Sheâs studying the pieces theyâre wearing as she figured that vibrant colors must be the upcoming trend this summer. Soojung might be caught up with fashion at the moment, but she sure is still paying attention to Hanjae with her advanced multi-tasking skills.Â
â you are a tolerable drunk. â
âOkay, Iâm offended.â she retorts with an eyebrow arched, yet a wry smile soon takes its place across Soojungâs slightly flushed visage. The older then looked around the dim-lit bar and searched for at least one person or table that was supporting intoxicated patrons who are too crippled by the alcohol in their systems to even sit up straight. As her sight slowly turned panoramic, she spotted a table of middle-aged corporate men being rowdy with each other. Soojung was ninety-nine percent sure that they looked crisp and respectable when the sun was up, but now they just behaved nothing like children in a playground arguing whoever is the âitâ now except theyâre probably talking about whose trade in the stocks skyrocketed today.Â
While holding her margarita in one hand, Soojung lightly nudged Miyeonâs elbow and directed the youngerâs attention to where her French manicured fingertip is pointing at. Soojung also looked across their table and said, âSee that? Theyâre old but my alcohol tolerance is probably older.âÂ
Krystal for CanCam
â you canât change my mind. â
âHonestly, I canât tell if youâre talking about the bracelet or Hanjae now.â Soojung replied at the youngerâs firm decision, keeping the air between them as light as she could for she didnât want to be accused for false pretenses. She followed behind Aera who was staring down at the assortment of glimmering jewelry laid down before her that was encased in a rectangular glass box seated on a Greek-styled podium. âHey, listen.â Soojung says in a crisp tone to draw her attention upon taking a step beside her. âIâve only known now, and we never really got to talking about your feelings before towards him.â the elder crossed her arms loosely over her stomach, âitâs just that.. iâm worried about two of my friends.â
