Proverbs 4:23 âGuard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.â
Let me pose a question to us all: Are we impacting culture or is culture impacting us? Are we infecting society with true hope or are we letting their poor imitation of hope persuade us?
Note(s) to self: 1. Be careful what you watch, listen to and the environments you place yourself in. 2. Embrace accountability.
Isaiah 40:31 ââŠbut those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.â

From Pastor Kathy As I type this tonight many of you have joined together in Sacramento for Night to Unite. God is with you, whether you are sitting in a sanctuary or perhaps on a couch somewhere by the time you read this e-mail. It has been a beautiful journey these past twenty-one days, and I want to personally thank each one of you for joining me and the many other leaders who have been fasting and praying with you. I really wondered what to include in tonight's e-mail to close our time together, and decided to end with a simple prayer. Father, We thank you tonight that you are our Creator. You knit us together, and knew us before we were born. We thank you that you created families for us to find safety, love, and joy within. For some of us these are families of birth, but for others they are "chosen families" that we have met along the road and been knit together with. You get the glory for this, because it's Your Word that teaches us that You "set the lonely into families." Tonight, will you be very near to the heart of each of my friends? All 775 on this e-mail list, Father, need you in very specific ways tonight. Allow them to be present in Your presence.Allow them to stand still for a moment and know that You hold tomorrow in the palm of your hand. Guide our hearts, guide our minds, and guide our lives as we pursue all that You desire from us. Thank you for loving us even before we met You. We love you God. Amen.

Keep the Change! Can you believe itâs already been 3 weeks? God is so good and has been so faithful to speak to our hearts over the past 21 days. Weâre looking forward to seeing all of you this evening at âNight to Uniteâ as we celebrate what He has done in our lives!  A final word of encouragement: donât stop. Continue to aggressively implement the changes God has revealed to you by His Spirit. Continue to seek His wisdom as His process unfolds in you. Our job is simple. He leads and we follow. What He speaks we do as He changes us from âglory to gloryâ.  I was reading recently about companies that were once household names that are no longer in existence. Organizations like E.F. Hutton, Woolworths, PanAm, Standard Oil and General Foods are simply no more. Why? Because their structure didnât allow them to plan for the future, changing to stay healthy and productive. If we donât embrace the revelation God is giving us, we might have grown all we will grow. We might have produced all we will produce unless we submit our will to His direction. Today, letâs choose to keep growing. Letâs choose to âkeep the changeâ Heâs begun in us! See you tonight!
Prayer Focus Today is the final day of our emphasis. Whenever you complete a major accomplishment itâs always time to celebrate. So today is a day of praise. Shout to God and sing to Him and call out the praises He so rightly deserves. Celebrate with Him the changes youâve experienced and the blessings Heâs provided.
Get Practical Remember to not break your fast with everything you've been craving, or you may very well end up sick. Ease back into things! You can expect to feel a little sluggish after eating normal size meals, too. This is a great way to show your body how much you DON'T need to eat everything on your plate!

From Pastor Kathy I've asked someone from our church family to share with you all tonight. She told me of a friend that after 50 years of faithful prayer, has now come into relationship with Jesus Christ. I just smiled with pure joy as I heard this testimony, knowing that this prayer warrior had also prayed for DECADES for other loved ones to come to that saving knowledge of Christ. She knows something about enduring in prayer that we can all learn from and try to pattern our lives after. Here is what God has given her for you tonight... It Starts at Home Revival begins at home. It is in the home that revival first needs to come. Revival is desperately needed in the church...the country...in the world; but a revived church with un-revived homes would be sheer hypocrisy. It is the hardest place, the most costly, but the most necessary place to begin.Â
But before we go on, let's remind ourselves what revival really is. It simply means a new life in hearts where the spiritual life has ebbed--but not a new life of self-effort or self-initiated activity. It's not man's life, but God's life, the life of Jesus filling us and flowing through us. Perhaps you're frustrated that your home isn't like you pictured it would be. Your spouse and children didn't turn out as you dreamed they would. But nothing and no one is perfect here on earth. Your loved ones have good and bad days, just like you do. That's okay, because if your home and your family were flawless, you wouldn't need God. Trusting and gaining His understanding fills your heart and home with joy, love, and acceptance.(Proverbs 24:3-4 NKJV) Prayer- The name of The Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. (Proverbs 18:10 NLT) Prayer and perseverance has brought revival to our home. Not in my time but in God's time according to His will. After years (years) of praying my husband found salvation in our Lord Christ Jesus, praise to God. During this time of fasting and prayer, we have been blessed with many other family members and friends excepting The Lord as their savior. Pray, pray, pray... 1 Peter 3:12Â
Make it Real
Yesterday we talked about praying for longer during one sitting. But what is the longest you have endured in prayer over time? A week? A year? Decades?
What sticks with you from my friend's devotional above?
What is God trying to teach you during these last few days of our Awakening season?

The Risk & Reward of Reproduction Many of us have been abundantly blessed with the arrival of children. Scripture calls them a âgiftâ from the Lord. But letâs be honest. Sometimes we think of them as a present but often we also look ahead to the future! This summer weâll take child #2 to college which leaves us one teenager at home. Freedom is in sight! Weâve almost made it!  Now, before you judge me, realize that I love my children dearly. I canât wait to see the plan of God unfold in their lives! The future is bright with possibilitiesâŠand grandchildren. Yes, we are looking forward to grandkids in Godâs timing. Why? Because itâs a chance for us to get parenting right this time. Itâs an opportunity to atone for our mistakes as a young Mom & Dad who valued their children but usually didnât get it right. We want a âdo-over.â  Iâve come to realize that those things I judged so easily in my children were usually things I saw in my own character and didnât like. The truth about offspring, as God created it to be, is that we always reproduce what we are. Positive, faith-filled people influence those around them. So do negative, critical people who always see the worst in things. What are you allowing to grow inside of you? What is it that youâre reproducing? The structure in your life  - think of it as your core foundational values - will determine what you reproduce. Letâs ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to us today what the current atmosphere and structure in our lives is reproducing in those around us.Â
Genesis 1:25 |Â God made (everything) able to reproduce more of its own kind. And God saw that it was good. Prayer Focus Take today to write out some reflections of what God has spoken to you during this emphasis of focusing on the Lord. What has He shown you about distractions? What have you learned about your relationship with Him? How has He blessed you? How has He stretched you? Going forward...how should this change your life? Write this out and then pray about implementing a new relationship and commitment with God in the future.
Get Practical Word to the wise - don't spend your entire last two days of the fast daydreaming about how you're going to beak the fast. :o) Trust me, it's easy to do that! Instead, focus in on God and spend that extra time with Him

Our society teaches us to try for awhile, and then move on to the next great thing. We have A-D-D-D-D. We can't focus for long on anything at all. Someone else is now in the spotlight, a new technology has replaced last week's, and my generation especially changes career fields as often as they change the oil in their car. So it's no wonder that we have trouble sitting through and focusing in during prayer, and really "praying through." That's a very old, church-y term, isn't it? Pray through. But I grew up in church and had a very clear understanding even as a child that people were going to the altar to pray through and then would not be back up from their knees until they felt like they had felt God at a new level. They had "touched the throne." In the Old Testament, no one would have dared this type of thing. You don't physically walk into the Holy of Holies, so why would you dare to spiritually? But when Jesus died for us, not only the curtain at the temple ripped, the spiritual separation between God and man was bridged. WE HAVE ACCESS! We can "pray through"! Prayer is not a sprint. It is often a marathon. And as often as we want to say that we'll just keep praying more about that tomorrow, or next week... There are times where you need to hit your knees and STAY there until you feel God's presence in a new way, have a new peace, a new understanding, or a new refreshing pour over you.
Make it Real
When is the last time you stayed - physically - in your place of prayer for a long time? Did you get up when you had heard from God, or when you felt you had been there long enough and needed to go do something else?
What may you be missing out on by setting a time limit on how long you sit with God?
Tonight, let's covenant together about praying through. No more drive-by prayers. Let's linger with God until we hear from Him. When the student in my mom's classroom get antsy, she's known to stand there and just quietly say, "I'll wait." Tonight, let's wait. He WILL follow-through if we continue to pray through!

Controlling the Chaos Iâm a very busy person. So are you. Everyday we attempt to juggle what seems like a million responsibilities â what I call chaos â trying fervently to make sure the important âstuffâ gets done. We usually arrive home tired, grumpy, and perhaps a little frustrated the âimportantâ things on our list didnât get done. Â Why is it so difficult to learn busyness is not productivity? We run from here to there and back again, and start the process all over again tomorrow. We âdoâ a lot but are we really accomplishing anything of significance? A tough lesson Iâm learning in my life is what happens if I try to do too much. The result? I usually donât do much of it well and frustrate myself as well as others. If I want to be productive for the kingdom Iâm probably going to have to learn the magic of one little word. âNo.â I have to say ânoâ to some things so I can do other things well. Â I love cleaning out things. I would almost rather throw something away and buy it again later if needed than have piles of âjunkâ laying around everywhere. Iâve even thrown away a few things on occasion that apparently were âirreplaceableâ to someone else. Oops. But if I truly want to be productive in my time here on earth, itâs going to take some constant reevaluation and reorganization of my time and priorities to make absolutely sure Iâm accomplishing what God wants from me rather than just busywork leaving me feeling weary and unfulfilled. Letâs allow God to direct our steps and control the chaos! Â Jeremiah 10:23 |Â I know, LORD, that a person's life is not his own. No one is able to plan his own course.Â
Prayer Focus Pray for ways to become a better leader and difference maker in your family, your work, your neighborhood, and your church.  From Pastor Kathy Perspective
Sometimes we need a little perspective. As I write this, I'm sitting in an airplane at 35,000 feet on my way to the East Coast. When you get this high up in the air, it's amazing what you can see. The things that were huge to you are pretty minute. And suddenly you the giant things that were blocking your vision completely, when seen from a different angle become clear and powerful concepts. In today's reading, Daniel gets a holy visitation to let him know that the war going on around him was NOTHING compared to the war going on in the spiritual realm. Beyond his vision were powers and principalities fighting over control. While he fasted and prayed, expecting an answer - it was already provided for him. His patience provided him with perspective. Knowing there was a bigger picture allowed him to persevere. He was called a good man. A man of quality, a man who humbled himself. He wasn't spending time in unanswered prayer because of something he was doing wrong, it was simply a matter of timing. As you continue to seek God, allow Him to provide you with perspective. We don't always know what the bigger picture is. We don't always see the details or realize what's at stake. BUT GOD DOES. His angels are on the job, at war on our behalf for the will of the Father. When we fast, don't run away in fear at the power of perspective, like Daniel's friends did. Instead bow humbly in His presence, and listen for the answers that WILL come, in God's timing.

Visions & Vines Here in northern California we are surrounded by vineyards. Just a short drive into the Napa valley and suddenly there are grapevines almost as far as you can see. The interesting thing about vines is they will experience limited growth if left on the ground but begin to grow exponentially once placed on a structure. In other words, lack of structure always limits growth.  It doesnât matter if weâre talking about our church, our marriage, our children, our family, our health or so much more. A lack of proper spiritual organization in our lives will seriously limit our potential for growth and maturity. In Genesis 1:11, God says, âLet the land burst forthâŠâInteresting to see that once the process was in place that growth exploded! In fact, the Bible says that the earth was then âfilledâ with seed-bearing plants and trees. Did you catch that? The potential for growth and reproduction was already within the creation. What was already there, laying dormant, now sprang to life!  There are so many places in our lives where God wants to infuse the creative power of His spirit...to see dormant dreams come alive and set in motion the process of spiritual reproduction that will bring His kingdom to earth. Buried deep within you is a vibrant vision for your future just waiting to come quickly to the surface if weâll just allow God to restructure our personal âvineyardsâ according to His plan. Do we want a little growth or a God-sized explosion that brings His blessings, provision & miracles into our daily lives? Today, letâs choose His vision for our lives and watch the âbursting forthâ begin!  Isaiah 55:8-9 | "My thoughts are completely different from yours," says the LORD. "And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.Â

We all get weary. Sometimes we're confused. Sometimes we're depleted and have no idea what to say. Have you ever just been at a loss for words? This can affect you whether you're standing face to face with another person, or whether you're face-to-face with God through prayer.    So what do you do when the Words aren't there? Paul talks about "groanings too deep for words" in Romans. There are times where I choose to just pray in the Holy Spirit, using the prayer language I received when I was baptized in the Holy Spirit. This is an awesome empowerment that allows you to yield your own heart and even your very speech to the Holy Spirit as He prays through you. I never have to worry about what to say when I am praying in the Spirit. If you want to learn more about that - shoot me an e-mail!    But the other thing I want to talk about tonight is praying the Scriptures. YES - you can totally use your own words for prayer! But when they just don't seem to come, walking through Scripture can be an awesome tool. In fact, you may want to pick up a pack of Dominion Cards from Pastor Karen - I love mine.    Anyway... back to Praying the Scriptures. Here's why it's a great thing:
You are overwriting the negative speech that you have heard, or have spoken yourself, by proclaiming what the Word of God says.
It brings you to a place of agreement with God, as you are speaking His Word.
The Word becomes more hidden in your heart as you seek Him.
Your thinking changes as you speak the Word.
Since it's our goal to be more like Christ - pray though His words!
Your mind is renewed (Romans 12)
Now... how do you do this, and what makes it different from your devotional reading of the Word? Use your voice. Close the door, put on some music if you don't want anyone to hear you, but use your voice as you speak the Bible verses out loud. Make it personal. Put "I" and "me" into the Scripture. For instance, "Lord, You are the Good Shepherd and I hear Your voice. The voice of a stranger I will not follow." (John 10:27) Put someone else's name into the passage. "Lord, bless George and keep him. Let your face, your favor shine upon him. Be gracious to George, O God, and give him peace." (Numbers 6:24ff)Â Find resources. If your words are stuck in a particular topic, use a concordance, a Dominion Card, or even an internet search to find appropriate passages. This isn't about proof-texting - making God's Word say what YOU want it to say. This is about finding a story or passage, knowing where it's from, but also recognizing it's application to your life. Use your devotions. As you are reading through the Bible for your devotions, and a passage really hits your heart, spend time praying that out loud. Declare the truth that you are learning. Then as you paraphrase, you'll be amazed how your own words begin to flow in prayer. "Father, make me like Esther, who recognized she needed to do in the moment. Make me bold enough to ask for an audience, and call others to prayer on my behalf." Â
Make it Real

Blessings & Blueprints In 1969, an American icon by the name of Frank Sinatra became known for a song called âMy Wayâ. He croons about his unwillingness to change under pressure from other people and how he lived life exactly the way he decidedâŠregardless of other peopleâs opinion. God certainly created us with a will, but the purpose of that will is to consciously choose submission to Godâs plan for our lives. Itâs a spiritual law that if my life is to produce spiritual growth, I must submit to Godâs structure! This is SO DIFFICULT for those of us who donât like rules! Human nature says, âYou canât tell me what to do!â The Holy Spirit says, âWithout my structure in your life, you will never reach your full potential.â  Iâve had the privilege of being involved in several construction projects over the years. Iâve learned to read architect designs and developed a basic understanding of what it takes for a building to truly become functional, useful, and more importantly, safe to occupy. Weâve all seen examples of buildings collapsing due to poor planning or worse, shortcuts taken to save money and time. Often, the cost can be extremely high.  A building wonât stand the test of time unless the creatorâs plan is followed meticulously. Our lives are no different. We can try to build apart from our divine design or we can submit to structural laws set by our Heavenly Father. We canât live life âmy wayâ and then ask for Godâs protection and provision.  In other words, I canât expect Godâs blessing without following Godâs blueprint. Today, letâs choose to willing submit to the structural changes God needs to make in our lives so we can do life âHis way!â  Hebrews 12:8-9 | If God doesn't discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children after all. 9 Since we respect our earthly fathers who disciplined us, should we not all the more cheerfully submit to the discipline of our heavenly Father and live forever?
Prayer Focus Pray for the spiritual protection and warfare of our church body. The devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but we have been and are covered by the power of the Blood of Jesus Christ. He has disarmed, disgraced, and defeated the devil and we need to remind the devil of what happened on the Cross of Calvary. Pray for the protection of your family and put on the whole armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-20.
Get Practical As we anticipate the end of the fast, don't plan to go out for some giant meal with everything you've been craving. If you do, you may very well end up sick to your stomach! You need a slow return to the sugars and fats (and foods!) that have not been a part of your diet for 3 weeks now. Ease back into your normal routine.

"I, Daniel, walked around in a daze, unwell for days. Then I got a grip on myself and went back to work taking care of the king's affairs. But I continued to be upset by the vision. I couldn't make sense of it." Daniel 8:27 Last night I received a call at 11:03pm from my dad. He let me know that MomMom, my grandmother (his mom), had passed away. MomMom was 89 years old. While she had many amazing years, her passing was still unexpected and put my night, and then my day, into a daze as I walked around. I spent a good bit of the morning just trying to get a grip on myself before going into work in my office. But I continue to mourn, have moments of upset, and making sense of the void feeling of now having lost both of my grandmothers. You can imagine how this verse spoke to me today. Tomorrow we'll read how Daniel went into a time of fasting to get himself out of his daze. At times fasting allows us to finally SEE the vision from God. But at other times, fasting is necessary to help us UNDERSTAND the vision. It is a beautiful thing to my daily walk right now that I am feeling especially close to my Father God, because now MomMom is hanging out with Him. The closeness to Him helps ease the distance from her. When you are feeling distant from the understanding, or walking around feeling upset by what God's showing you - allow fasting to become part of the process to bring clarity and closeness to your heart. Â
Make it Real
For you, has this fast been based on finding vision, or finding clarity?
How has God been speaking to you during this time?
We will discover that Daniel received answers at the end of his fasting period. How is God teaching you patience during this process?

Embracing God's Structure There are days when I open the door to my kidsâ rooms and quickly just close my eyes, back out slowly and try to forget what I just saw. I canât really complain because my garage is no picnic either. Weâve started the process many times of sorting through the mess but it seems we never quite get it finished. As God continued to work on the earth during Genesis 1, we see that creation had to get organized for the mess to become productive. Organization allows process to continue.  Iâm one of those people whose underwear drawer contains nicely folded clothing and carefully matched socks. My shoes are lined up in my closet and my clothing hangs in order â t-shirts, then polos, then dress shirts, then suits. I simply canât help myself! My computer files are organized into neat folders and subfoldersâŠand subfoldersâŠand subfolders. I like things being in order! Except, perhaps, when it comes to my life. There are definitely some âmessyâ areas Iâd rather just ignore than deal withâŠoh, you too?  My father taught me a great truth when I was much younger: water and dirt make mud. He was trying to convince me to use soap in the shower so I would actually get clean instead of smearing around the daily filth. Not much grows in mud. In life, there has to be some organization â some clear separation â to create the proper conditions for progress. Once Godâs structure is in place, growth will happen naturally. In what areas in your life is God trying to âcreate separationâ so spiritual maturity can consistently develop? Today, letâs ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what need to be âreorganizedâ so no hindrances remain to fulfilling Godâs purpose in our lives!  Psalm 90:12 | Teach us to make the most of our time, so that we may grow in wisdom.
Prayer Focus Pray for the nations where Christians are persecuted and killed for their faith. Pray for strength and passion for them as they face intense challenges to sharing their faith with others. Pray for the protection of their families from the physical threat of government and local religious leaders who oppose them. Pray for great favor for them amongst their people that many will surrender to the call of Jesus Christ.
Get Practical For many, week 3 feels like a breakthrough week! By now your body should be thoroughly detoxified, and if you successfully navigated that metabolic shift that happened in week 2, you're likely to find yourself coasting until day 21. As your body has become used to less food, you are more than likely experiencing fewer hunger pangs. Since your body has detoxified, you are most likely also experiencing less achiness and headaches. Because your body is not using as much energy to digest food, it can devote more energy into the restorative processes. During this last week you may find you are sleeping better, too. You may not feel hunger, but if you continue to watch the extra TV instead of spending extra time in the Word... you WILL have intense cravings. Turn it off and tune in to God!

From Pastor Kathy "Use your words."
If you have a toddler in your home, you've said this many, many times. "Use your words, honey." Instead of jibberish and baby talk, parents encourage their kids to use the "big kid" words they are learning. When starting out, we'll say the words with a bunch of intention, pronouncing those syllables and final consonants very clearly. But later as your child develops, you don't want them just parroting back to you what you have said. Their ability to paraphrase and summarize is a key developmental step. We don't know for sure what language Jesus used when he spoke the Lord's Prayer, although it's guessed that He used Hebrew, since that was the language used for traditional prayers in the synagogues. However, but the time it's recorded by the apostles, they've already translated it to Greek. I love that! Do you see what they did? They have already put Jesus' prayer into THEIR OWN LANGUAGE. For years the historical church made the mistake of telling people that they had to pray in Latin. In fact, the entire service was held in a language that was NOT used on the streets. Scripture wasn't allowed to be put into the common language until centuries later. Praise the Lord we don't have to operate like that! Yes, there is a forumla Christ gave us. But it's the STARTING point. Just like with a child learning to talk, as you get more and more comfortable using your prayer words, you can form different thoughts, different paths, and use YOUR WORDS!
Make it Real
Rewrite the Lord's prayer tonight in your journal, or if you don't keep a journal, on a piece of paper to keep in your Bible. Paraphrase and make it very heart-felt to your walk with God right now.
