“trust me, i have to remind myself multiple times a day that there’s more than just people like us out there.” in her job it seemed especially hard not to help everyone the way she knew how. medicine was the true magic when she was at work. she waved her hand at the mention of the ice. “i like it room temperature, but that ice machine sounds tempting though. where on earth did you get a cute little idea for that? i might need one for my house.”
Her smile didn’t fade, if anything it grew at the words from the redhead, taking her time to pour her own drink as well, “I dunno, I always hated the big cubes and I have a thing for crunching ice..” Kat laughed, it was one of those silly habits, “One of the guys says it's like a dippin dots machine, whatever that is?” Sliding the glass over, the siren made sure it was only her own she sipped from this time, “I’m Kat by the way, nice to meet you.”
“ you’ve never been to a fair before ? ” addie’s brows drew together, her voice sounding slightly incredulous. then, she was struck by the thought that this was thornhollow. some of its residents weren’t human. she could understand that. she looked at the woman in front of her with a curious expression. “ they can be really fun, if you’re into that sort of thing. ” she glanced at the ferris wheel with slight disdain. “ i prefer the carnival games. skee ball and the batting cages. ”
She shook her head, before realizing how utterly crazy she must sound, “No, I grew up in a...pretty conservative house.” That was her go-to excuse, that she wasn’t allowed out much, it sold better when people didn’t know she had been around for a few extra decades, “I saw them on shows and stuff, never got the experience, but I get it, the smells and the lights...” Kat noticed her look but didn’t read into it much, sipping away at her drink still, “I’m pretty sure I would be sick if I went on that?” Following the eyes of the other to the wheel, shaking her head at the thought.
festivals were always fun. in theory, she’d enjoy them, but they always reminded her that she wasn’t human. she wasn’t looking for adrenaline or a rush. maybe if she had someone to enjoy it with, it’d be better. she wasn’t so lucky. addie glanced at the woman briefly, and then her entire attention was caught by her outfit. it was festive and not quite fitting. nonetheless, it wasn’t her place to say anything. “ the typhoon ? ” she echoed. “ it’s a ride. a thrill ride. people seem to think it’s fun. it’s not really my thing, though. i prefer my feet on the ground. ”
Her mind was still filled with the glittering lights, but the kind face was welcomed and even kinder words, thankful that she hadn’t just been laughed at, though now she had been clued in Katerina started to laugh at herself, “A ride? Oh.” Another sip of the frozen cocktail and she grinned, “I’ve never seen anything like this, it’s...amazing.”
If it had been anyone else, Daisy would’ve hexed them without a moment’s hesitation. She was pretty good at being sneaking with her spells, and hexes were her absolute favorite thing to do. “Trust me, I will. I love a good hex anyways. Keep your voice down, though. Pretty sure there’s human’s here.” She used her hand, motioning for Kat to bring her voice down just slightly. No one seemed to hear though, and Daisy wasn’t too freaked out here. Thornhollow was full of people like her. “Can you get me a whiskey? Neat, please.”
“Oh, right.” A little flustered, Kat quietened her voice, she was still getting used to not immediately knowing that she was surrounded by fae or vampires, the other species in town were harder to get a read on. A smile lit her up a bit though, the sweet redhead didn’t seem too bad of a person, “Of course.” She grabbed another glass and found her best whiskey, pouring a double into a glass, “Ice? We have this amazing machine it makes them little pearls...” There was still a little wonder in her after all, even if it was over something as silly as frozen water.
it was almost funny, talking to a stranger more openly than he had done with his therapist. maybe it was because he was home. he had always been open and vulnerable when he was younger — that had changed when he moved away, leaving him feeling isolated and more often than not alone. “ i’m sure there are more fun ways. ” despite himself, he cracked a smile. “ i just haven’t found them out yet. ” he straightened up, rolling his shoulders back as he glanced at her and then towards the dance floor. “ do you really wanna dance with me ? ” he wasn’t opposed to it. he stood up and outstretched a hand.
It had taken her time to adjust to her freedom, but one of the first places she had found solace was a bar and a bartender who was friendly and listened even if she couldn’t give any real details, it was a way to feel a bit more normal. Kat raised her brow in challenge, waiting for his answer before giving a shrug, “I wanna dance and you need to find a way to have fun without intoxication, I’m pretty good at that.” The latter was true, though she liked her alcohol Katerina found her own trouble. Rounding the bar, Kat took his hand and a smirk started to grow on her lips before tilting her head a little to get a proper look at him, “I’m Katerina, nice to meet you.”
She had never seen anything so beautiful, lights everywhere and the most wonderful smells, Katerina must have looked like a child in such wonder. Dressed in a pink dress with sparkly wings adorning her back, the woman had curled her hair and tied it on each side, sporting a flower crown she had picked up at one of the stalls. Kat was one of only a few she had seen not performing who had dressed in something a little more creative, but there was some delight in that for her. Stood in the middle of it all quite literally spinning on the spot as she kept finding new things to look at, Kat allowed herself to be free, to laugh and enjoy the grins that came from the children who passed her, of course, there was also the rum mixed with the cup of frozen cola that she was enjoying far too much that helped fuel her imagination.
It wasn’t often she spoke to herself, not anymore, but anyone around her was sure to have heard the many exclaims of ‘woah’ and ‘what even is that’ coming from her lips and it only took another long sip of the drink before she spoke again, now to the person walking by her, “Excuse me...do you know, well I mean, could you tell me why exactly people are running screaming with excitement toward a typhoon?” She must have sounded crazy, or entirely drunk.
“ i — i’ve been asking myself that question a lot lately, ” he replied, his head tilting to the side as he looked at her. he didn’t recognize her, but that wasn’t a surprise. everything about thornhollow had become foreign to him. what was surprising to him was that she didn’t recognize him. it was a nice surprise. he’d definitely take it. “ i miss it. i guess. the energy of a club, you know ? it’s not the same doing it without alcohol or — or anything else, though. but my partying days are over. i promised myself that. ” there was a pause and then — “ i suppose you could say i’m here to suffer. i’ve become something of a masochist lately. ”
Kat certainly hadn’t been expecting an honest answer, nor the look on his face as he gave it, but she understood it at least, she could see the sadness behind it and if she was good at one thing, it was finding a way to distract someone from sadness. “Yeah?” She did know, it was a lot like the reason she took over owning the place, she liked the atmosphere and anonymity clubs allowed for, “Yknow there are much more fun ways to be masochistic, right? You don’t have to give up having fun just because you don’t want to be intoxicated.” This coming from the girl hiding her own demons behind alcohol, but in her own messed up way she was trying to be positive, “You could take me to go dance?”
it seemed that rhett was still torturing himself. he was still going to bars and going to clubs, knowing that he couldn’t enjoy them in the same way he once did. he wasn’t sure why he did it. he didn’t miss his hollywood friends, if he could even call them that, and he sure as hell didn’t miss the lack of control he felt over himself. still, there was something lacking in his life now. he watched as the woman grabbed the drink that was meant for another. when she glanced his way, he shook his head. “ oh, no. not mine. definitely not mine. i’m — sober. so unless it was water — “ he shrugged his shoulders.
Still learning the lay of the land, Kat much preferred the comforts of the club, she knew exactly where everything was, usually. What she didn’t know was the people, so when she questioned the drink she didn’t judge if the guy had been drinking the cocktail or not. His answer surprised her though, a guy who was sober sitting at the bar of what could arguably be called the hottest club in town. “Well, that is a story you have to tell.” Her brow raised in curiosity, leaning down onto her elbows now resting on the bar edge, “What’s a guy doing drinking water at the bar?”
Daisy’s day at work had been nothing short of exhausting, and she’d stopped by the Terra for a quick drink before disappearing into her apartment for the remainder of the night. Her fingers tapped against the bar absentmindedly while watching the bartender make the drinks hastily behind the bar. It was fascinating, honestly, to watch the bartenders at work. As she reached for her drink, the other girl snatched it up and took a drink for it. Daisy laughed in surprise. Normally, she’d get upset, but there was an honest shock on the girl’s face. She couldn’t get mad at her. “Yeah it was, but don’t worry about it. I’m just glad you didn’t spit in it or something.”
She hadn’t been paying enough attention, really she shouldn’t even have been behind the bar in the first place. Her laughter being returned put her at ease, sighing and shaking her head before setting both glasses back down on the bartop, “Oh god no, if anyone here does that, feel free to hex them or something.” Kat wasn’t good at subtlety, she still often forgot that the human world usually didn’t discuss magical beings openly. “What can I get you? Drinks on the house for the night, I promise, I won’t drink anymore.”
Most of the time Katerina knew exactly her limit, exactly how to push her tolerances just far enough to have fun without getting to this point. That point being where she was now drinking just to keep herself from losing her mind for another night, the club filled with people and her mind was on only one thing. Grabbing the glass in front of her, she quickly downed it before a brow raised, realizing she was holding the cocktail she had made for herself in her other hand, “Oh shit...” A giggle left her lips, an honest to god girly giggle that really she would have been embarrassed by if she wasn’t already too drunk to care what people thought, “Was that yours?”

BIO ▸
「 priscilla quintana. female. she/her. 」 — is that KATERINA LAVEAU i just saw in thornhollow? word around is that they’re a 26/108 year old SIREN, but i doubt that’s true. they’re pretty SASSY from what i know, but i’ve heard a rumor that they can be SHORT-TEMPERED too; must be why they’re the OWNER OF TERRA. they kinda remind me of RUBY RED LIPSTAINS ON CHAMPAGNE GLASSES, LEATHER JACKET WITH SKY HIGH HEELS & DANCING ON BARTOPS. ( harlow. she/her. 26. gmt/uk. )
Katerina is still young in spirit compared to many of her kind, he was captured around her 13th birthday before she had any real idea of what her ‘gift’ could become and create. Sold to the highest bidder and kept within wealthy families, Katerina was seen as the most prized treasure and often forced to perform for her masters’ guests, not only using her beautiful song but often as a trinket to be passed around; her talent used to trick others into bending to her masters every whim. She knew a life of living in a tank, entering the water bound in chains, at the mercy of whoever held the key and otherwise kept isolated and forced to eat only when it was in service to another. Wars were waged, land stolen and soon death followed wherever Katerina and her owner stepped next.
Escape didn’t come easy, and many attempts were met in failure, but it was by luck that a witch happened to be attending a ball in 2015 and realized who, or rather what, Katerina was, without hesitation they freed her. Following the witch back to New Orleans, not far from her birthplace itself, where she allowed herself to fall in love with music once more, even if her attitude came between her and any real, steady job. It is from here that she gave herself the last name Laveau after the famous Voodoo Queen.
Numbed by her past, Katerina isn’t afraid to use her abilities, though still struggling with the reality of her true form, she is cautious simply because of how powerful her voice can be, and the way in which she uses it. Her fear of the ocean and transforming obviously hinders her in many ways, staying in her human form as much as possible and avoiding all the things that a typical siren may deem ‘normal’. She doesn’t speak openly about what she is or her past, many nights spent drinking rather than sleeping to avoid the vivid memories of those lonely nights in her golden cage.
Though she respects the laws put in place, Kat loves to bend the rules and will often cause no end of chaos when feeling a little mischievous, including allowing her more primal instincts to take hold. Along with this, Kat is extremely loyal to those she deems worthy of the affection and would go to the ends of the earth for those few she trusts enough to be open with.
She moved to town on kind of a whim after seeing Terra up for sale, trying to somewhat start fresh even if she is still so naive to the world around her, she’s committed herself to make it somewhat of an escape for others in the way she needs her own. The dark nature of the club is a stark contrast from the bubbly exterior Katerina puts out, but you best believe there are nights she’s either up on the bar dancing or in a dark corner enjoying a snack with the vamps. Still learning about the town and what goes on but mostly stays neutral.
