it makes me a little sad, sometimes, when saying ‘i’m a semi-selective / selective’ blog drives people away, because like. i don’t mean ‘i’ll never write with you if you don’t have an “aesthetically pleasing” blog’ ( i think a good amount of what the RPC considers ‘pretty’ is incredibly fucking ugly and gives me a headache, anyway, but that’s beside the point ) – it’s just that, because of recent behavior in the RPC / misinterpretations of what selectivity means, that’s what people seem to think. and i can’t even blame em for thinking that. and that’s what makes me sad – because it’s ostracizing a lot of really good writers who maybe just don’t have the time, energy, materials, or skillset to do shit like … y’know … sitting down and figuring out how to do graphics, or trimming and editing 200+ icons, etc. etc.
so just to clarify:
i don’t give a fuck if you can’t use small text.
i don’t give a fuck if you can’t use tiny icons – i can’t either.
i don’t give a fuck if you can’t use icons at all.
i don’t give a fuck if you don’t write in prose, format your paragraphs, etc.
i don’t give a fuck if you don’t have a “pretty” theme.
i don’t give a fuck if you can’t add bold / italics to your posts.
i don’t give a fuck if you don’t know how to make pretty promo banners / graphics.
i don’t give a fuck if you don’t have pretty PSDs pouring out your ass 24/7.
i don’t give a fuck WHY you can’t do these things – not wanting to / not feeling like it is just as valid a reason as literally not being able to.
the only thing i give a fuck about is if you understand the character, and if your writing shows that you care about your character, and that you’re invested in them, and that you write them as accurately as you’re able, and that you’re excited about them, and that you’re having some fucking fun with it.
aesthetics are fun, and good, and i support people going along with the trend of creating a visual element to their blogs, and having a distinct ‘look’ to them, and making things appealing, etc. … but visuals aren’t everything. the most important thing, to me – the thing that i’m “selective” about – is whether or not you’re actually having a good time with your character, and whether or not your writing reflects that. i will always care a whole lot more about the quality of my partner’s writing ( not the style, but the quality ), and if my partner is able to carry a story with me, and – again – if it’s clear to me that my partner loves their muse and enjoys writing them ( a lot of love goes into writing a character – if there isn’t love, the writing is missing something no matter how pretty or objectively ‘good’ the writing is – words without love behind them lack personality ).
please don’t let the fear of visual inadequacy, of all things, drive you away from writing with me. just because i like for things to look a certain way doesn’t mean you have to, and it certainly doesn’t mean i’ll turn you down, by default, if you don’t.
