Maybe this is a totally inconsequential thing to get annoyed about, but it’s started to really bother me how often I see people refer to Iris as “basically just a female version of X”. Usually I see this being used as evidence for the X/Zero agenda (and I don’t mean like, “they’re both Zero’s type”, I mean like the thing where people throw a female character under the bus and treat her like an “obstacle” to an M/M ship). But I’ve seen it in other contexts as well, and either way it bugs me.

Like. First of all, they don’t actually resemble each other much at all. They both have brown hair and green eyes, sure, but those are pretty much the only physical similarities they have. They have different face shapes, eye shapes, nose shapes, hairstyles—not to mention their armors look nothing alike. X is almost entirely made up of different shades of blue, while Iris has half the rainbow on her and then some. Regarding personality: yes, they’re both kind and don’t like violence, but it’s a huge stretch to claim that just because they share a couple personality traits that they’re “basically the same person”.

Secondly…I guess it’s just frustrating because, to me at least, it seems like just another way of not allowing Iris to be her own character. It’s the same thing as when people depict her and Colonel as two halves of a whole person, or when they make her entire story and personality revolve around Zero. It’s still defining a female character by a male character in close proximity; the only difference is the choice of male character. It sucks! Like, I know she’s not a real person and she’s just a fictional character, but I feel like it’s unfair to her, you know?
