your art is so good! how do you pick colour palettes for your pieces? how do you stop everything becoming kinda muddy and dull??

i pick pallettes usually by going off of like, what the main colour is and then picking complimentary colours around it? so for the fish drawing i really wanted the yellow goldscales to pop so i use purple on the water around it. sometimes i start drawings with the intention of using colours, like thinking i want to make a red drawing. other times i figure it out as i go. i make a lot of orange and blue ones if you might notice heheheh To explain the un muddyness, as that is something i dealt with for a while, but to preface that i am not an expert ive just got a bunch of loose rules and ideas i use: I never use true black, and when i do its very sparingly, because true black as a mixer will start the muddyness. example: a Using a dark but higher saturated tone means the the colours are more variable, but still a little en muddyness ensues. example: b So I always use 3 tones, the highest shade, the mid point, and then the darkest point, whilst encorporating the rules above. example: c
