This is Maximus. Max came to us from the Colorado Akbash Foundation thanks to a little help from @greatpyreneesrescuemontana and @pilotsnpaws. He’s definitely an Akbash and may also have some Pyr mixed in. Max’s mama and siblings were rescued from a sheep ranch in Colorado. They were left to fend for themselves, a scenario that is all too common for livestock guardian dogs. But Max has been so loved and spoiled by his foster mom that he doesn’t seem bothered by his hard start in life. Orange Kitty thinks Max shows potential and is working to teach him the chase game that he and Buddy used to play. Bella’s official position is that Max is incredibly annoying. But unofficially she’s eating, wagging her tail, barking, and begging for walks again, all of which she stopped doing after we lost Buddy Bear. Murry and I like Max just fine but miss sleep. Today was the first day of the @teammakeyourmark #Virtual6challenge. My generous friends have donated over $300 to raise money for the #Lupus Foundation of America, and I promised them at least six miles of walking/running/hiking/biking in return. My plan was to hike a mile with the dogs each day and then try to see how many more multiples of six I could log on my own. Instead of our normal party of three, Bella and I did our first hike for two in a very long time. Whereas she normally goes nuts at our two p.m. hike time, I barely got her out of bed. Whereas she usually sprints ahead and rolls around in the grass, she just walked right next to my hip where Buddy used to love to be. When we turned around, she kept stopping to look back up the trail.
