it was the first day since moving to charming that sloane felt like she was home. she was happy and gracie was adjusting well to her new school and new home. when they first moved, she felt guilty for taking her away from the only home she knew but seeing her adjust well made the guilt go away. they had been shopping for new furniture when they decided to go to the ice cream shop for a sweet treat.
hand in hand, the two made their way towards home when out of her peripheral, she saw what she assumed was a ghost. there was no way that her ex husband and father to the little girl next to her was in charming. when she looked back at where she thought she saw him, he was gone. she let out the shaky breath that she had been holding, hands shaking as she tried to calm her racing heart. there was no way - no way that he was here. she had to have imagined him there.
as the two rounded the corner, sloane felt herself instantly colliding into someone else, dropping her ice cream in the process but her first instinct was to make sure her daughter didn’t run into the other. “ grace, you okay? “ she asked, looking down at her daughter next to her. when she nodded in response to her question, she looked to the person that she had run into and immediately, her blood turned to ice. she wasn’t seeing things. jake was here and was face to face with his daughter that he didn’t know he had. “what are you doing here?”
Flat on his back. Still as he could be. The scene unfolded far too quickly for Braden's liking. He should have had enough common sense to not try the tricks he could have managed when he was a teenager while on a skateboard. It was a recipe for a disaster even if he was just trying to relearn to impress his son. It was a new fixation every day with the young boy, and the newest trend now was skateboarding. "Don't worry, I'll be fine. I just need a minute." He exhaled heavily not all confident in the being fine part, simply just trying to muster up the strength to stand up again after the wipe out he had moments ago when he tried to land a kick flip. His balance and timing was off which propelled him backwards straight to his ass.
Sloane had a view of the sidewalk and street in front of her boutique that she absolutely loved. She was a people watcher and often wondered what was happening in the lives of the people who passed by her store. She was working on the front display as she watched a man skateboarding. What she didn't expect was for him to completely wipe out in front of her door. Before she could think twice, she was already out the door and kneeling down next to him. "Did you hit your head? Are you nauseous? Do I need to call an ambulance?" All questions were instinctual.

“Word of advice?” Hakan began, turning on the barstool just enough to angle himself more towards the patron perched next to him, “Never get married.” Placing his phone facedown on the bartop, he carded a hand through his salt and pepper curls and blew out a long sigh, signaling that whatever text he’d just read from his estranged wife clearly hadn’t been a pleasant one. But then again, the one he’d sent her first hadn’t been either. It was just a vicious cycle that went on and on, though he didn’t harbor any ill will towards her despite that. In fact, if they’d never been married, Hakan suspected the two of them might have been good friends. Sidelining that thought, he turned his attention back towards his newfound company, “What’re you drinking? Next round is on me,” he offered, raising a hand to signal for the bartender, “May your luck be far better than mine.”
Sloane was never the type to find herself at a bar - well after she had Gracie - but it felt much needed in the moment. Her sister offered to spend the night with her daughter to let Sloane get out and enjoy a night to herself. It was something that she seriously lacked since having her daughter but she never minded it. She honestly loved spending time with Gracie more than she would want to spend without her. She had been sipping on a vodka cranberry when she heard a voice booming next to her. She glanced over at him and had to laugh at his advice. "You could have told me that when I was in my teens" she said, a laugh escaping as she shook her head. She didn't regret her marriage, no but sometimes she wondered where things would have went if she would have stayed. Looking back at her drink, she decided to down it before pushing the glass toward the bar. "Vodka cranberry. Make it a double." Moving her body toward him, she rested her arm on the bartop. "So, who asked for the divorce? You or the other person?"

aurora had gotten a call from her grandma saying that her old man had thrown out his back and wasn't feeling the greatest. it was mid afternoon at this point and she insisted on heading over to the family business to hold down the fort until closing. thankfully, it was midweek and pretty slow at the pizzeria. while in the midst of almost completing the closing shifts duties, she heared the bell to the front door ring. "we close in like twenty, just letting you know. if you're looking for a fresh pizza or breadsticks, you're shit outta luck," she called from the back.
the day had been long. paperwork upon paperwork that needed organizing along with trying to maintain the business that her sister had built felt overwhelming. and what better way to end the day than junk food and watching some trashy television show. ducking out of her boutique, she wasn't far from conti family pizzeria where she knew she could get something good - someting warm. walking in, she didn't realize just how close to closing she was. " oh that's fine. i will literally take whatever you got left. seriously, give me whatever. just throw it in the microwave and call it a day, yeah?"

biography.
trigger warning: drug use, child neglect, anxiety
sloane was born under not so nice circumstances. her mother was a chronic drug user who slept around to pay for her habit. she barely even knew that she was pregnant until right before sloane was born when she found herself in the emergency room. she had about a month left in her pregnancy and for that last month, she stopped using. it didn’t matter though because when sloane was born, she went through withdrawals anyway. from the hospital, she went into a foster home until she was two years old when her mother got her back.
with her mother being sober and newly married, sloane was put back into her custody after she proved that she was a fit mother. and she was for the most part, but her stepfather on the other hand was not meant for fatherhood. jason was never the type to physically harm sloane but his verbal and emotional abuse was worse. because of this, sloane developed anxiety at a young age. she walked around on egg shells for years, doing her best to get straight a’s and not making things harder on herself.
when she was ten, her mother and stepfather had a daughter who they named alexis. she was loved the moment that she was born and sloane vowed to protect her at all costs and she did. even with the age gap, she was the one that always offered to take care of her. it wasn’t an easy road for them but they had each other and that was all they needed. she was just glad that jason didn’t treat alexis the way that he treated her.
high school was where sloane met jake cooper and for her, it was love at first sight. they were destined in the stars or at least that’s what she told herself. she loved him so fiercely, so quickly that when they got married it wasn’t a shock to anyone. she wanted to spend her life with him and never look back. it was everything that she wanted and more - until it wasn’t. date nights planned turned into sloane being alone and while she understood why jake was gone or missed dates it didn’t make it any less lonely. she knew that it wasn’t going to end and she made her peace with that until she saw the two pink lines.
she gave it one last try - she told jake that it was important and she needed him home. when she sat for hours passed the time she asked him to be there, she packed up her belongings and the next day filed for divorce. it wasn’t her decision and she hated this but she didn’t have just herself to think about but the life growing inside of her. she moved to a small town in south carolina and started over. nine months go by quick and her daughter, gracie, was born.
for the next six years, she raised her daughter but when she got the call from her sister to take over her boutique in charming, she didn’t think twice about moving. she moved into the apartment that her sister was renting taking over the business and the lease with great pleasure. she’s only been in town for a month but there is something about this town that feels like home - she just hasn’t figure out what that means yet.
