I joked by including an outrageously impossible scenario into a slightly believable misinfo to make it possible to notice that what I'm writing is a laughably obvious lie -> thus making it a JOKE. And yet. At least 3 people believed my claim for "about 10 seconds".
That says a lot about people's critical thinking abilities and/or the surreal possibility of our university having structural NATIONWIDE political/law-making power.
I joked that our uni stripped Labor Day (May 1st) of its National Holiday status, and that decision affects the entire country (I emphasised this part by adding a "by the way, for the whole country" after the "...stripped of nh status..."!!!) and not just our uni, and we all have to come to classes tomorrow.
And ppl said they believed that for those few seconds because _I_ was the one who sent that.
All while I included that _nationwide_ in the middle, before "we all have to work tmr guys", so it wasn't even a setup -> punchline.
Putting it in terms of tumblr, it was way more like the very beginning of the color of the sky, then a rickroll, and then the very end of the color of the sky. And everyone is like "I very briefly believed it was entirely the color of the sky"
