Global water leader Patricia Mulroy to join Nevada Center of Excellence at Singapore International Water Week in June 2014
LAS VEGAS – Patricia Mulroy, who oversaw the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s (SNWA) development during the region’s greatest period of growth, will join the newly formed Nevada Center of Excellence at the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) next month.
Recently named Senior Fellow for Climate Adaptation and Environmental Policy at University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ Brookings Mountain West and Maki Distinguished Faculty Associate with Nevada’s Desert Research Institute, Mulroy is known as the key architect in developing SNWA, which not only kept up with Southern Nevada’s explosive growth since the late 1980s, but also dealt with the Colorado River’s perpetual drought during the past 15 years.
“SIWW offers a forum like no other in the world for collaboration and innovation,” said Mulroy, who in 2013 joined more than 180 water leaders from 46 countries at the Singapore International Water Week Water Utilities Leaders Forum, organized by the PUB, Singapore’s national water agency. “I am looking forward to returning to Southeast Asia in this new role and continuing to contribute to the work we have done here in Southern Nevada, being a world leader in developing sound water policies and management practices during a period of tremendous growth in the Southwest region.”
As the Program Lead for Water Resources and Technology within the Nevada Center of Excellence – a new public-private sector joint venture focused on deliver services in water resource management and big data analytics for municipal water management, innovation and sustainability in the Southwestern United States and across the globe – Mulroy is helping guide new research programs and private-sector partnerships in water resource development, management, technology and related areas in the environmental sciences at the state, national and international level.
Mulroy will represent the Nevada Center of Excellence in an exhibit in the new US Pavilion alongside an elite delegation of Nevada’s business, higher education and governmental leaders including Steve Hill, Director of the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development; Dr. Stephen G. Wells, President of the Desert Research Institute; Tom Skancke, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance; and David Johnson, Deputy General Manager for Engineering and Operations for the Southern Nevada Water Authority.
She will also participate in the SIWW Water Leaders’ Summit - a two-day high-impact, meaningful and engaging discussion on pertinent water issues, and forum to share and co-create innovative water solutions in key areas like water governance, technology and business issues.
Mulroy has served as treasurer of the Water Research Foundation Board of Trustees, and remains on the Board as a member emeritus. She also served as president of the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies, was the original chairperson of the Western Urban Water Coalition, and served on the board of directors for the National Water Resources Association and Colorado River Water Users Association. She was also a member of the American Water Works Association. As general manager for the Las Vegas Valley Water District, Mulroy was instrumental in the creation of the Las Vegas Springs Preserve, which opened in 2007.
