Amazing what a years worth of work can turn into! Here are some picks of the project this summer plus where we started last September
We are almost rolling. Front end is in except for springs and steering rack. Rear end is getting mocked up but will need some work before everything is burned in. I'm going to check over the gears, replace the bearings and seals, and add in a wilwood rear brake kit. The Lincoln calipers are difficult to get ahold of and I don't want to use obsolete parts.
Tons of welding and painting this weekend. Everything is boxed and burned in. The front ifs is done and the whole chassis is painted. My electricity bill is going to be big this month!
Started on the rear 4-link. Chassis is still upside down. C-notch and boxing for the lowered rear axle setup.
Flipped over the chassis and finished boxing the frame then welded in the ifs crossmember. Measured a dozen times before burning it in!
Started boxing the frame for the IFS install.
Refurbished an original gauge cluster. Finished up today with metallic grey paint on the bezel and florescent orange on the dials. $70 all in rather than $800 for the aftermarket one.
Carved off all of the paint and most of the Bondo on the back of the cab today. Most metal in great shape but the left side is a disaster. Will need to replace a big portion.
Put the chassis up in the air as high as I could to pressure wash, clean off surface rust, and paint it up. Suspension work next weekend .
Minor update. Front suspension and axles came out without much hassle. I really appreciate old trucks that spend most of their life in Arizona.
Soda blasted the frame today. Finished it off with vht chassis paint. I am really happy with how solid the frame is. It only had surface rust and dirt on it. Next I'll roll it into the garage and get setup for the ifs front suspension and 4 link rear.
Body came off the truck last weekend. Really happy with the condition of the frame and cab. It took 4 of us about 6 hours to get the whole job done.
Engine back from the machine shop today. Still original bore...just needed a hone and clean up with new bearings and such. Its a 1989 roller 302 that will have aluminum heads, Ford e303 cam, and a bunch of Edelbrock stuff.
Restoring the gauge panel
Sanded down paint around the passenger side door frame, rocker panel, and elsewhere. Pretty happy with the integrity of the metal. Also built a dolly for the cab for when we pull it off in a couple weeks.
Sanded down and primed left fender and hood support. Realized it will all need to go in for sand blasting.
