This was a great exercise. It included all of the things we’ve touched on in previous workshops at one time or another. The biggest challenge was recalling them. It’d be handy to recall such organizations and aids etc. off the top of my head in future.

CCD Workbook

The CCD Workbook was very straightforward, comprised of many great resources. I especially enjoyed the videos. Particularly ‘The Tribes We Lead’. It was easy to follow, and contained a breakdown of Marketing essentials.

The exercises were practical. I do, however, wish the appropriate responses would have come to me more naturally. Undoubtedly, the consequence of not being as well versed in the relative readings and resources as I’d like.

Overall, I do feel like I had a good grasp of the workbook.

The Tribes We Lead

This was an interesting video to watch. Seth Godin was extremely engaging and made a compelling point of connectedness and fortitude. His presence as well as the way he projected was captivating.

A Project Plan

This was a very thorough exercise. A useful exercise. It broke down a lot of the Marketing process, for this group and potential activity especially. I saw the foundation of what would be successful Marketing, come together as I filled out the template. A structured process. Clarity came with the more information that was provided.

Case Study 1

I chose Case Study 1. I had separated the actual questions, as they were easier for me to process that way. Reflecting and remembering resources from previous modules, my mind sought to uncover possible commonalities, differences and issues outside of those that were outlined, as a means to build a more expansive foundation.

When multiple Stakeholders are involved, it’s unrealistic to think you can satisfy all groups, simultaneously. Although not impossible to find a reasonable compromise. It became easier to answer the rest of the questions after the initial few, once the underlying concerns and parties were addressed. It was very much a cohesive and flowing exercise.

Isangmahal Arts Kollective

I chose this Case Study, speaking about it in the Discussion Forums, for a number of reasons. One being the layout, and the other being the way in which I resonated with their backstory. Coming from a family which had migrated from their Country of Origin, to a largely Westernized and euro-centric population, I knew too well the pull from seemingly, conflicting Communities.

They showed unity not only in how they spoke on issues within their own Community, but how they’ve extended their resources to other Communities and Organizations.   

The Case Study hadn’t particularly touched on nuanced issues within their respective traditions, but more so the ties between Cultures. Including that of differing generations.

I thought it was interesting how they outlined processes of one of their projects. How it came about, the objectives, the inclusion that had been shown, responsibilities and the outcome. From a student’s point of view, now imagining myself from an audience member’s perspective, I can picture the production value and my excitement.

The event seemed pretty well rounded and dynamic. Raising awareness and captivating a largely, varying audience in demographic is not easy. Stimulating multiple senses and engaging the audience deemed primary.

Upholster Furniture. Teaching people to utilise varying materials and seemingly ‘neglected’ furniture as a creative outlet. Giving it a ‘new lease on life’ and broadening their perspective on one’s capabilities.

With a network of just Creatives and hope, onwards we go.

Reread your mission statement to make sure it is one that will inspire you to achieve your short or long-term goals on a daily basis. Print your statement, and post it on your refrigerator at home, in your home office or any other place where you know you will see it often.

Community Profile & Presentation

My Community Profile was centred around Samoan Youth in the City of C*mpbelltown. A single classmate and I were to present last year (2015) as we had joined the course half-way through an existing group, and though my Community Profile and Presentation had already been submitted, the newly appointed date of completion inspired an overview of my work. I was content with my Profile, but not of my Slideshow. A few tweaks and edits were made, and I had created something of satisfactory proportions. 

There weren’t many statistics specific to that particular group, so relevant to the demographic; general statistics, personal experiences and news articles were used as primary sources. 

I was definitely nervous going in. 15 minutes seems like an extraordinarily long time, especially for someone such as myself, who has little experience with public speaking. Amanda gave me great insight as far as content, inclusion, body language and voice projection. Mentioning alternative and/or additional issues I could have discussed such as Student retention and gender roles. Further delving into the nuances and effects of the Diaspora.

Overall, it was an excellent learning curb and experience. I received great feedback post-presentation. Not just from that of my own, but the others as well. It definitely helped with my analytical thinking, depth of research and confidence while speaking in public.

Long term goals can be for up to five years (and even longer if you are clear about where you want to go). A long term goal could be to develop your reputation as a collectable painter, or leading a public art project management team.

Varying customs and traditions of certain groups can be cause for limitation. Such as a ‘Co-ed’ gathering or event. Being conscientious of the group you’re working with is essential. in order to improve my position, I’d need to LEARN how to navigate said limitations with existing resources as well as new and innovative ideas.

Community Mapping

Choosing the Thematic table seemed to make the most sense to me. It may have been because an example was provided... Although ultimately I find tables to be clear cut, regardless. As opposed to... Whatever other options there usually are. I understood the concept, though was still somewhat stumped on piecing that of my chosen Community together. It took me looking at a number of Thematic table examples to wrap my head around a cohesive and customized layout of my own. I still wasn’t 100% on what I had submitted, but it looked like... It made sense. Relative as well as helpful to the Overview and overall assignment.

Community Consultation

In retrospect, I could have completed this task a while ago. My cognitive learning skills have not been aligning as per their usual, over these past couple of months. Initially I had chosen several different groups over my now, submitted selection. I just couldn’t answer the questions. I read the same text over and over again. There was no ‘method to my madness’. Finally, it came together. Overall, I’m satisfied with what I’ve submitted. Dissatisfied with my untimely submission, and relatively excited for the next task.

A lot of pictures were taken on this trip. From LA to NYC to Philadelphia to Washington D.C. It was memorable. Riding the Subway was an experience in of itself. Stunted, has been my motivation to work. Relative to CACD, myself, my Art etc. I’ve really been struggling. But, today was a good day. And these were good days.

Present an Icebreaker and Session Plan

I’m not sure where I found inspiration for this Icebreaker. On the internet, no doubt. I had forgotten the roll of toilet paper I was going to use from home. Unwrapped, mind you. So, I dropped by the supermarket not 5 minutes from where we hold our monthly workshops and picked one up. I was nervous. As students before me had seemed so organized and enthused in their offering. A favourite memory... Favourite memories. I was sure... But, I wasn’t. How concise were my instructions? How adamant was I? Was any part of my Icebreaker problematic? How thorough had I actually been in considering this question?

It was a feel good moment. Only good thoughts and memories were sought that afternoon. “A positive and easy activity”.

Task 3.1

This activity really made me think. The essentials of finding funding in light of conflicting values with the actual Funder? What to do? What takes the forefront? What are the possible repercussions? Are you fulfilling your responsibilities as a CACD worker? Where do you stand thereafter? Tasks like this make for a more conscious and objective foundation for future endeavors.

Community Profiles

This was an intriguing task! Being I was most familiar with this Council Area, I definitely thought it the optimal route. Looking into a City's foundation, and reading through statistics is quite eye opening. There was so much information, that I wasn't quite sure what to include. I was narrating it in my head, but as the post progressed, it started to look like a bunch of copy and paste statistics. I think there was a modicum of flow in its conclusion, so that's something.

The task was quite thought provoking. It's not too often that you look to dissect a community, with that much detail and intention. The other Community Profile posts helped tremendously! I was able to see the other's train of thought, through format and selective inclusion of information.

Especially with notes of the more disadvantaged suburbs in my choice of City, was I compelled to give it further thought and look up Social as well as Council plans. I wasn't able to find too many specifics, besides mention of Higher Unemployment/Lower Income rate percentages. I'll have to keep searching.

Overall, this was a great task. Essential for development as well as awareness. Building a basis of knowledge, where you become familiar with a Community's "to and fro" is largely beneficial.
