@waywardvoyager
From now on, i'm just gonna post a pic a day with a short description. Wifi can be hard to get sometimes. I'll flesh out the posts when i get home and add a bunch more pictures, but at least you guys can get a feel for what i was up to, especially you guys that don't have a tumblr
It feels weird to be traveling on my own, even if it's just for a day... But I know one thing that always make me feel better...
London is an interesting mix of old and new. Take this building.
It’s got beautiful old architecture, and then a “we’ve moved” sign on there door
We also learned a lot of neat facts while on the tour. Like how Portland place was the widest Victorian street. It owes it’s width to Lord Foley, to whom the Duke had an obligation to never obstruct the view north of his estate. The architects, the Adam brothers, circumvented the issue by building the street as wide across as his house was. Another interesting fact is that Hyde park, which was originally bought from monks by King Henry XIII, and opened to the public by Charles 1st, when combined with Kensington gardens, is bigger than the entire principality of Monaco.
Back in England! Visiting family and playing with their animals uwu . This kitty's chilling on the sunroof.
Went to Versailles via train. The palace is amazing, Louis XIV definitely lives up to his name of "Sun King".
Tried to fit in as much of Paris as we could today. Saw Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, a bunch of crazy old cars out on display, and le Champs Elysée. Feet.hurt.in.best.way.possible
Took the plane to France (def taking the Eurostar next time). Paris is great and so is the food! Went around the area my parents used to work, walked the Champs Elyseé, had some awesome food, then called it a night
This majestic man is E. Callahan, he's a Yeomen Warder (a.k.a. a Beefeater), one of the guards of London Tower, and he's hilarious! The Yeomen Warders give free tours of London Tower, which are definitely worth taking! The tower has a lot of interesting history, ranging from the execution of several of Henry XIII's wives, to ravens whose wings remain clipped due to the superstition that, should they leave the tower, a great calamity will overcome london.
Soo
I haven't had internet in ages... Which means i haven't been able to update, so I'm just gonna post my favorite pic from each day with a quick summary and i'll go back later and add all the details i'm sure every single one of you are all super excited to read... Like super excited
Took another tour and found out....
Kensington fire station is haunted by Lucy and Nora, the last horses to be part of the horse drawn fire brigade. Their stable is now the each room, firemen say they can sometimes hear them breathing… Is it bad I thought of the winchesters? Jm Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, had the statue of the boy who never grew up propped up in the middle if the night so that school children passing by would think it appeared as if by magic. Cabbies have to undergo a rigerous test, called the knowledge. Only once they’ve memorized 45,000 streets within a 6-mile radius of charrings cross road can they get their green badge. So yeah, I thought that was neat. We basically wandered around London for the day, took the London Eye (the line was OBSCENELY LONG)(but totally worth it). Checked out Westminster Abbey, and had dinner at Da Mario’s, but I’m gonna make a whole ‘nother post about that. I'm gonna update later when I have access to a laptop.
Do you know what this means?!
I think you do!
uwu
I’m in love
The line was crazy long ("but totally worth it", I whispered to my unconvinced companions)
Once we finally got into the museum, there were a bunch of cool things to see. These next couple of pictures are all from “Sherlock’s bedroom”
By Sherlock’s bed. The subject of the book was the art of bee keeping uwu
They even have the bullet holes in the study! In “The Musgrave Ritual” Sherlock had gotten so bored, he started using the wall as target practice. “VR” stands for “Victoria Regina”, the queen.
Dr. Watson’s desk
Letters to Mr. Holmes
Sherlock’s violin
Sherlock’s desk was a lot less tidy than Watson’s
People come to visit this museum from all over (of course I signed!)
There were a bunch of wax figures on the third floor, of Sherlock, Watson, Moriarty, and some of the unfortunate case victims. My favorite wax figure was this one though. Because you see the lamp at the top, then look up to the ceiling…
… And see our boys
Notes to Sherlock, but this one…
… Was my favorite
