Megatron slices the air with his blade again, sending a new nova of energy at the newsparks rushing to join the Autobot fighters.
And at Ratchet, who is still rushing at Megatron, his faceplates twisted in blind, unreasoning rage.
He leaps over the arc of energy, apparently given speed and power by sheer determination alone, and lunges at Megatron. With a roar of irritation, Megatron kicks him aside.
Megatron has no time to see what happens to the newsparks – he sees some frames fall, but how many, or whether it is possible for any mech to survive the Dark Star Saber’s power he does not know.
He has worse things to worry about now than a few confused, newly-born soldiers.
The energy of the Allspark envelops Ultra Magnus’s ship in a flare of light, bright as Cybertron’s daylight – or Earth’s. Megatron bellows in rage and defiance, but the Allspark’s power has already given the ship life.
Before their optics, it begins to shift, lightning crackling over its new-awakened frame. Plates lock together with deafening clacks of metal against metal, forming legs and arms and a massive, mighty head.
The ship’s guns bedeck its arms. They hum with unbridled power.
The thing’s optics flicker. It frowns, its gaze sweeping over the battlefield, the fallen mechs, the fighters both Decepticon and Autobot. Is it… deciding what to do?
After a long moment, its stern face glares down at Megatron. Its optics flare with cold blue light.
“You,” it says. “Leave. Now.”
Megatron studies it as best he can, his gladiator instinct telling him he won’t have long to search its frame for weaknesses.
“Leave now?” he says, his voice a snarl of anger. “You know nothing about what is happening here. You know nothing about why these mechs brought you online – or how their actions left our people lifeless and prolonged a war that left our home needlessly barren.
“Our home and yours,” he finishes. “You too are Cybertronian.
“And Cybertron belongs to us.”
They were on the cusp of victory. All those Autobots had to do was get in their ship and leave! How had they managed to reclaim the Allspark when Megatron wielded the Dark Star Sabre? He swooped down to the ground, making sure no more Decepticons were giving chase to the newsparks before turning his attention to Lord Megatron’s altercation with the ship.
Something inside him snapped at the giant Cybertronian’s command. He turned indignant, rage-filled optics to Arcee and Ultra Magnus before reaching into his subspace and drawing his own Star Sabre.
“If anyone should leave, it’s you! You abuse the power of the Holy Allspark, and spawn life only to throw it away! Throwing children out to be living shields! You have no respect for our world! No respect for our brothers and sisters! Only your precious ideologies! Cybertron deserves more than that!”
His face was nearly manic with emotion as he looked to the ship, “Listen to Lord Megatron! The Autobots don’t care about our fellows…” He gestured to the herd of confused, frightened newsparks. “They don’t care about our planet. Join us, and we can all go home, together. We can go home.”
As the light from the Allspark swells, Starscream veers off course, knocked again out of his jet mode, and he holds his arms over his optics to veil his gaze from the overpowering light. For a while he floats amidst the debris of sliced frames and rocky asteroids until, at last, the holy glow of the Allspark vanishes, and when he removes the shield of his arms from his face---
His tanks churn with dismay. There before them stands a mighty beast of a machine, its cannons aimed directly at his comrades. A loyal portion of himself thinks to swoop in and aid them, but he realizes that, if the newly-formed Cybertronian intends to fire, he would be demonstrating such valor foolishly. If he dies there with his Master, who would be there to carry on the Decepticon banner? Soundwave? Knock Out? Shockwave? No, Starscream has to survive, that stir within him never completely fading, and if that meant abandoning the corpses of those fallen to the Autobots, there would be no other option.
So Starscream hangs back---and yet, as he continues to observe the scene from his faraway vantage point, he can clearly that the newly-born machine is thinking. Despite being a newspark, it seems that it is able to take into consideration Megaton’s and the Princess’ words, for they speak with such intense conviction that it cannot be ignored.
Finally, it lowers its cannons and turns from the group of Decepticons to glare at the Autobots that had instilled life in its lines.
“Is it true? What they say?” it asks in its booming voice.
Needless to say, Arcee and Ultra Magnus are taken aback, shying away from the lumbering ship. They had not expected it to question the purpose of its birth; they had merely expected it to raze the Decepticons to the ground, and then the Allspark would be theirs once and for all.
And yet the creation wishes for the truth.
“We---“ Arcee at first murmurs, but the next time she speaks, her voice holds more power. “We didn’t have any choice in the matter! Megatron---the mech who stands before you---had every intention of destroying the planet on which we had made our home---“
“Cybertron?” the ship interrupts her inquisitively, confused by her narrative.
“Well, not---not exactly.”
As Arcee falters, Ultra Magnus steps forward, attempting to embolden Arcee and reinforce her explanation, “The Decepticons intended to destroy Earth, where our home base is located, but he would certainly spread his destruction to the rest of the galaxy---the universe, the multiverse. His thirst for power is endless---“
At last Starscream descends, though he does not land beside his comrades. He perches cautiously on the next available asteroid, his voice coaxing as he addresses the enormous newspark, “The Autobots make all of these suppositions, and yet look around you---look at all of the lives that have been squandered around you. You see in their servos the object that blessed them with life? The blessing was only granted for them to be cast into oblivion. So who here do you see causing all of this destruction?”
Starscream shook his head, the motion chastising the Autobots as well as expressing his pity. “The Autobots always boast their morality, and yet before you has been shed the energon of their own brethren---by their own hand.”
