Disappointed in the Divergent Fandom
I joined tumblr 4 years ago. The Divergent fandom was alive and active. Today I’m disappointed in the fandom and some followers who I used to talk/fangirl with regularly. Now they’re just quitters.
Do you think THG fandom would have stopped if Katniss died in Mockingjay? No. They would rally around her until the end. Not this “I can’t read the last book because it’s too hard.” Yes it’s hard. It’s because you grow to care about the characters.
Same goes to quitting on the movies. You know what, the cast and characters do not deserve that. I watched Divergent and Insurgent back-to-back yesterday. I gotta say, the plot and key points of both books are there. Yes the director went CGI crazy in Insurgent but it really was only in the Sims. That makes sense. They were her fear simulations. “The box is armageddon.” The box tied up a lot of plot that movie goers who didn’t read the books needed to understand Jeanine’s cause. So what it was a box and not on he laptop. Movies can’t be exactly like the books, i get it. So should many of you.
Those who call yourselves initiates that aren’t going to see Allegiant in theaters because of Insurgent are missing out. It’s actually really good. Those saying the movie is “too different “from the book have to REREAD. Actually the war between Factionless and the Allegiant was there, the shock and all of seeing the bureau, finding out the truth about Chicago, and David’s intentions were there, the fringe was awesomely done. Yes there were some timing changes and what they added with Marcus was fabulous. Go see the movie. I’m getting off my soap box now. Sorry but I am disappointed in many people. Go see Allegiant if you are a true initiate. I’ve read and reread the series several times and I gotta say the ultimate core theme of all three novels are in the films.
C'mon Divergent Fandom. Show the production companies and the world the power of our love for the Divergent characters. No book-to-movie adaptation is perfect. Though they continue to stay true to the characters we love. The cast is top-notch.
