What Am I? A Protag in a Low-Budget Indie Dramedy - Part 1
Part 1/2/3/4/5/6/Epilogue
While waiting for tropical storm Hilary to pass, I've been doing some introspection of my last five years. And I've got to say… it's been weird. Starting in 2018, with losing my best friend (+FWB) because I was (and still slightly am) a narcissist who felt like her new boyfriend was taking her away from me, so I started to love-bomb her to the point she actively stopped texting me and made sure only to text back if there was an actual conversation. Then falling through a skylight while on my second time as a paid Production Assistant cutting the back of my knee and landing on a single foot to the point I still have nerve damage. Then the stint as a security guard at 1. A fancy department store where I was able to diffuse the situations with shoplifting grandmas by making them feel bad for me due to my leg, and 2. working at a medical school facility that used to be a mental asylum (which still has its original buildings) on graveyard shift that had a naked homeless woman biting me and ending up with a rabies shot. And that was just the first half of that year. In the second half, starting in August, I moved down to LA to room with a guy that I knew for barely six weeks and work with him on a short film project (that I did not like the subject matter for and should have seen that as the glaring red flag it was). Living in a one-bedroom roach-infested apartment with no bed or fridge, having to sleep on the floor for the first three months, and worrying if a roach might crawl in my mouth. Oh, and not having a job, so taking any task I could to scrape enough for the rent, which landed me on a few other PA jobs (I should mention here not all the PA jobs were bad, though there was one where I apparently saw a ghost) and a security gig where I had a loaded 12-guage pointed at my face because of some confused bounty hunters. Finally, getting another graveyard security gig that was pretty cushy at an e-sports arena for a few months until I got hired at my current place of work. At that place of work, I had no idea what I was doing and bullshitting my way through every meeting and thinking they would figure it out and fire me once they saw that. However, that never happened, and now I'm basically the supervisor of the department in all but title and pay. After all that, now we come to 2019, where to start the year; all four tires got slashed, and the door to my gas cap got ripped off. And if that's not bad enough, the best friend I mentioned has our last text on January 5th at 8:15 pm (I've deleted all our texts, but that date and time are etched in my head. It's a serious issue with me and dates that leave a scar). Then on January 19th, she blocked me from her social media (and I completely understand), but a goodbye would have been nice. I had even asked that if she ever wanted me gone, all she had to do was just say so. If she had just said, "I don't think we can be friends anymore," or something like that, I would've been heartbroken, but I would've done so of my own accord. Though given my mental stability at the time, it might've been the right choice). Also, in January, I caught bronchitis for the second time in my life. After that, it was mildly smooth sailing for a few months. I think the short film was finished by March, sent out to festivals, and got into 3. Then another one started with a mutual friend, but that doesn't start until around August-ish.
