Last night I shared a status of lament for the black community because of the loss of another black man whose life should have not have ended. One of my white FB friends said nothing about the death of #AltonSterling but said "#AllLivesMatter" as a reply to my status. Although this reply was in no way constructive or helpful, I feel I needed to address something. Do not tell me that #AllLivesMatter. If all lives truly mattered to you, you would be mourning with those who mourn. You would be standing up for injustice when it is clear as day. You would not be chanting all lives matter and then continuing to turn your face from the deaths of those lives you claim matter. #AltonSterling was murdered. It should not have happened. This was murder and it needs to be claimed as such. The silence of white people when black and brown bodies are murdered is horrifying. Please don't tell me that you care for all lives when you say nothing about them when they are being killed. #BlackLivesMatter and I won't be silent about it. It's not liberal thinking. It's not anti-police. It's saying that there is a problem in the system. It's saying that racism is alive and well. #BlackLivesMatter and if #AllLivesMatter to you, then you should not be offended by it. I'm tired of hearing this argument. Please refrain from commenting with your arguments. Just show up with to the black community with your arms wide open and say I'm with you. I hear you. I'm sorry. The violence needs to end. And you telling people they can't mourn death is not okay.
