Student Webtool

I chose easybib as my student webtool

1.b.  Summarize what the tool does.

easybib does citations for you as long as you give them the source material, they can make citations in a variety of different formats.

2.a.   Describe why you selected the Student Web Tool that you did.

I chose easybib because it saves me so much time when writing a paper or making a presentation that involves research. Its nice to have a tool that makes the citation for you so you don’t stress over formatting.

2.b.  What was most important to you.

It is most important to me that this tool formats my citations correctly because that is why it is there in the first place. 

3.  How easy is the tool to use?

The tool is very easy to use, you either copy and paste your link into the URL space it has on the page or look up the book under the book tab, or reference your other source material under its connecting tab and it helps you make the citation, it’ll prompt you for more information if it deems it necessary. 

4. How have people been using it?

Most people use this for citations on research papers or presentations. 

5.a.   What might you use a Student Web Tool for?

I would use easybib as a way to make citing sources  easier and more efficient. 

5.b.  Do you think you could use it professionally or personally?

If you count school as professional, I would definitely say professional use but I don’t think you should cite sources using this tool on a paper you would publish.

I want it to convey to my teachers that I care about correctly formatting my sources

7.a.  How can you protect your privacy?

You don’t have to make an account or log in to do citations so you are already more protected due to the fact that you don’t have to give away information.

Due to the fact that I just use easybib to cite sources, yes I would want to protect my privacy 100%.

The tool I choose was Duolingo.

1.b.  Summarize what the tool does.

Duolingo is a language learning tool that helps you learn multiple other languages for free while tracking your progress.

2.a.  Describe why you selected the Your Choice Tool that you did.

I selected duolingo because I have a passion for learning other languages and love finding tools that can help me along the way.

2.b.  What was most important to you.

It was most important to me that the information I am learning is correct and I have heard from many langblrs on tumblr that duolingo is reliable. 

3.  How easy is the tool to use?

It is a very easy tool to use, you just have to make an account and pick a language to learn.

4. How have people been using it?

People use it to learn other languages or to stay in practice with ones they already know.

To learn more languages as well as continue to build on my current knowledge of languages I already practice.

I think duolingo is better for personal use than professional.

You can protect your privacy by not sharing your account information or linking it to social media accounts

Google Tool

1.a.  What Google Tool did you select?

The google tool that I selected was keep by google.

1.b.  Summarize what the tool does.

The tool is like a note taking tool similar to memo on android phones

2. Describe why you selected the Google tool that you did.

The first was because we had to pick a tool we haven’t used before and I have used a lot of google tools throughout my years in high school. Though one of the tools I hadn’t used was keep.

3.  What was most important to you.

The most important thing to me was that the keep application would allow me to make notes to myself and be able to access them anywhere, which is possible. Google has an app as well as a web application for the keep tool.

4. How easy was it to use?

It was extremely easy to use. Think of how easy it is to use your note taking tool on your phone and you’ll know how easy it is to use keep. 

5. Examples.

The note keeping tool is private unless you add collaborators to a note so I can’t look at examples but I would assume others would be using it for like to do lists or notes on a project. Maybe even notes for class. 

6.a.  What might you use the Google tool for?

I would use this google tool to set reminders for myself as well as create to do lists. With the collaborators option I might even use it for to do lists for projects or a place to brainstorming session. 

6.b.  Do you think you could use it professionally or personally? While I do think it is applicable with personal or professional use. I personally would most likely use it for personal use because of the fact the it is a note taking application. Though with googles collaborators option on notes you could definitely use it for professional use. 

7.  What do you want your Google tool to say about you?

Since this is more of an organizational tool. I would want it to represent me as organized and self sufficient

8.a.  How can you protect your privacy?

Google is very good at protecting your information but the keep application is all private information unless you choose to share it.

Of course, protecting my privacy is extremely important to me.

9.  One other thing you learned.

You can set different notes to remind while others are just notes, you can change their colors, and you can even add pictures to them.

Social Bookmark

I selected Pearltrees as my social bookmarking tool.

1.b.  Summarize what the tool does.

The tool lets you put all of your favorite content in one place, such as tweets, Facebook posts, webpages, and even files from your computer.

2.a.  Describe why you selected the Social Bookmark tool that you did.

To be honest the reason I picked this one was because it was the first one I could find that was free, working, and still in its domain site. Though after having used it I’m glad I picked it because it is very nice and allows you to put a lot of content onto it.

2.b.  What was most important to you.

It was most important to me that it was free because why would I use a website that costs money if I can use my bookmarks bar for free?

3.  How easy was it to use

It was pretty easy to navigate, at times I got a little confused, but they were very good about walking you through everything and explaining what the tools did.

4.   How have people been using it?

People use it to organize their content and ideas. In there collections they can organize webpages and that seems to be what they do alot

5.a.  What might you use an Social Bookmark tool for?

You might use a social bookmarking tool to keep track of webpages you like or to keep a running list of restaurants you could pull up. There are multiple ways to use social bookmarking sites.

5.b.  Do you think you could use it professionally or personally?

You would most likely use it as a personal tool just because of the fact that the information on the web that you are most likely to want to bookmark will have more personal implications than professional

6. What do you want your Social Bookmark tool to say about you?

I would just want it to express my interests as well as not overwhelm someone with too much information.

7.a.   How can you protect your privacy?

As usual, the most effective way to protect your privacy is to not give out personal information but since this tool can access your Facebook and twitter you also have to be aware of what is on those websites as well to further protect your privacy. 

7.b. Do you want to?

Yes, I always want to protect my privacy. The whole entire world does not need to know everything about me. 

8.  One other thing you learned.

One other thing I learned is that alot of people compare this website to pinterest.

The tool is suppose to let you manage all of your social media accounts from one place.

2.a.  Describe why you selected the Social Network tool that you did.

I chose this tool because I have a lot of social media accounts and would have liked to have been able to manage them all from one location.

2.b.  What was most important to you.

It was most important to me that I would have been able to manage everything from one place. 

3.  How easy is the tool to use?

The tool was not easy at all. In the previews before you signed up it looked uncomplicated, but once you got into the actual application, non of the links in the menu work, and the new post button didn’t work, nor could I add any of my social media accounts. 

4.   How have people been using it?

While I can’t find any active uses of people using the Media Funnel, it seems as if you would use it for more like business uses than personal uses from the way they describe the use of it.

5.a.  What might you use a Social Network tool for?

I think if you had multiple accounts or ran social media accounts for a business you would find the most use out of it. 

5.b.  Do you think you could use it professionally or personally?

While I think you could use it for personal or professional use it probably is more applicable for professional use. Like in the circumstance of someone managing the social media accounts of a business.

6. What do you want your Social Network tool to say about you?

This isn’t really a public thing, you kinda have to be willing to share it with others. But since you can manage all of your accounts in one place, and if you were running the accounts for a business, you would want all of your posts to match each other with consistent information.

7.a.  How can you protect your privacy?

You can protect your privacy by not giving out personal information or sharing the link to your media funnel profile with someone who you don’t trust.

Yes, I would want to protect my privacy.

8.  One other thing you learned.

While in theory this looks like an amazing tool, they need to fix all of their links because currently its broken.

The first tool I picked was LinkedIn.

1.b.  Summarize what the tool does.

LinkedIn is a website where you can post all of your degrees, work experience, hobbies, basically anything about you that you would want a potential employer to know about you. You usually use this tool to look for jobs and let employers look for you.

2.a.   Describe why you selected the Social Network tool that you did.

I picked this tool because, since I’m now 18, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to start up a professional portfolio that would give potential employers a chance to see what I’ve been doing. I would also like to make sure that I don’t miss anything important that I do. 

2.b.   What was most important to you?

The most important thing to me was that the tool would help me with any career that I would decide to pursue. I want to have the best chance possible at getting my dream job. 

3.  How easy is the tool to use?

The tool is pretty easy to use. It reminds me a lot of a resume. Just LinkedIn is more organized and you can fit more onto it before it becomes to cluttered. 

4.How have people been using it?

People use LinkedIn a variety of different ways. They use it to show themselves to potential employers, employers may use it to show job openings or to look for people to work for them, and some people use it to look at companies they may want to apply for.

You might use this tool to post information about yourself that you would want to be known about you professionally. 

5.b.  Do you think you could use it professionally or personally?

I think LinkedIn is more for professional use than personal. You use it mostly to look for jobs or show your skills and knowledge to potential employers and employers use it to post job openings as well as look for qualified employees. 

6.   What do you want your Social Network tool to say about you?

I would want my LinkedIn to express my greatest qualities as well as all of my professional experience. I would want employers to see my LinkedIn and want to hire me. ‘

You can protect your privacy by only posting information you are comfortable sharing and not sharing anything too personal such as a phone number or a personal email. You can also protect your privacy by not giving away any account information such as your password.

Yes I would like to protect my privacy. There are certain things that I am okay sharing and other things that I don’t need the entire world to know about me.

I’ve learned that if you look in the right places, there are bounds of opportunity waiting for you.

The second web tool I picked is from Organization and Productivity.

I picked a web tool called To do list

1.c.  Why did you choose it?

I chose it because I was hoping that it would be able to help me keep track of what I need to do during the day. 

1.d. How easy is it to use?

It is extremely easy to use. it explains everything and it does everything you need for a to do list and more. 

2.  How have people been using this tool?

People have been using it as a means of keeping track of what they need to get done or to keep track of shows they would like to watch and such.

3.a.   What might you use the tool for?

You could use the tool as a chore list for the day or to write down all your homework, the possibilities seem endless.

3.b.  Do you think you could use it professionally or personally?

I think it is more applicable in a personal setting as to do lists are usually something you make for yourself to manage time properly but if you had stuff that you needed to get done at work or for a project you could apply it in the same way to professional stuff. Plus with the website you can add a date to when it needs to be done so if you had a project for work you could apply it that way with the calendar as well. 

4. One other thing you learned

When you first create an account with the website one of the premade categories is movies to watch which makes me think alot of people have made a similar list and, like me, just have to many recommendations and not enough time.

Babbel is from the education category.

I chose Babbel its a language learning tool

I choose it because I love learning new languages and have used similar tools such as duolingo and am always looking for the best resource to help me.

Babbel is pretty straight forward and even lets you test up if you already know some of a language. 

2. How have people been using this tool?

From what I can see most people are using this tool to learn another language, some are using it to learn new vocabulary though in their first language, but its not as common.

You would most likely use it to learn another language or expand on your knowledge of that language. 

3.b. Do you think you could use it professionally or personally?

I think it is a tool you would use for more personal use as its not very applicable to professional use.

While babbel has quite a few other languages such as german and french, I kinda wish it had more.

The website I decided to use was portfoliogen

1.b. Was it easy to use?

Yes, it was relatively straight forward and explained how everything worked. 

2. You can’t see others e portfolios while on the website, so I was not able to look at others portfolios

3.a. What might you use an Online portfolio for?

You might use an online portfolio to show all of your experiences as well as work you’ve done. If you worked in freelance you could use an online portfolio to show potential clients work you have done before.

3.b. Do you think you could use it professionally or personally?

You could use your e portfolio for both professional and personal use. You could use it professionally by using it to show all of the work you’ve done to potential clients or employers. You could also use it for personal means by just having it as a place to post writings, artwork, or anything else that you have done that you want to show to other people. 

4. What do you want your e portfolio to say about you?

I would like my e portfolio to show my ambition as well as my hard work. I want to come off as professional and show my work. 

5. One other thing You’ve Learned

One other thing I’ve learned is that you can put basically anything on your portfolio. Such as your education, your work, your degrees and certificates, etc.
