5 Reasons I Don’t Like Cha Hae-In
(At least how she’s written)
1. How willing she was to leave the Hunters Guild to join the Ahjin Guild
I can’t think of any good that would come out of her leaving the Hunters Guild to join the Ahjin Guild. In the best possible scenario, it could be rewritten that Haein did it to spy on the Ahjin Guild. But canonically, she just wanted to be by Jinwoo’s side, which is bad on so many different levels. I don’t even know if she told Choi Jongin ahead of time, but whether she did or not, Jongin would have to deal with a ton of problems from the backlash of why an S-Rank hunter is leaving his guild and filling up the same of vice guild master (Son Kihoon obviously, but that’s not the point). She also said she “wanted a comfortable life.” Jinho took that to mean the Hunters Guild is treating her so poorly by overworking her that she wants to leave the Hunters Guild, tarnishing their reputation. And all of this for a boy? The canon reason is just so illogical
2. How she reacted to Jinwoo during the second double dungeon
Not only did she push Jongin away (lightly, but still) to have Jinwoo carry her out, she also got a high level healing potion from Jinwoo for her wounds. The healing wouldn’t be a problem if Jinwoo had offered the potions to other people, but he didn’t. And when someone asked about how her wounds healed instantly, she says that’s not important right now and they need to get out of the dungeon. Excuse me? Yes, they need to get out, but after she said that, they had a whole conversation about the Japanese gate (this is all in the novel by the way). More than 17 people died with 17 survivors. Haein couldn’t even ask Jinwoo to heal some of her members? And then when everything was said and done, Jinwoo and Haein held hands while they were standing outside. Is that really what she shouldn’t be doing right now??
3. She only joined the Hunters Guild because it was close to her home
This is from the game, and I don’t have much to say about this one, but it really emphasizes how she has little to no loyalty to the Hunters Guild in a bad way. She also doesn’t appear to consider joining any of the other guilds, which is a bit disrespectful if they reached out to her. Nicely. I’m mostly thinking about the major guilds with Baek Yoonho or Lim Taegyu
4. The second thing she asked when she woke up after the Jeju raid was if Sung Jinwoo came to help them
This is in the manhwa and is something I can somewhat ignore because the story is supposed to revolve around Jinwoo, but that’s the first thing she asks aside from where she is? Not if her guild master is okay, if any of the other S-Ranks are okay, if they succeeded in the raid? Maybe she assumed they were fine and that they succeeded, but that’s a little presumptuous and overconfident of her to think after almost being killed
5. She used more skills during the test to get into the Ahjin Guild than she used on Jeju Island
This is something a friend of mine brought up. While it could just be the manhwa only drawing parts of the Jeju raid, it seems like Haein is using more of her abilities and strength to beat Beru than she did against the Any King or any other ant in Jeju Island. And there are lots of reasons for her not using her full powers for the Jeju Raid, but there are also many reasons that sum up to her prioritizing Jinwoo over everyone and everything. Even without Jinwoo around, she doesn’t really do anything that makes her likable.
I think most of the things I don’t like is due to her being written as just a love interest and nothing more. It’s very frustrating to see Haein constantly thinking or talking about Jinwoo in every scene she’s in. And even when there are scenes without Jinwoo like in the Arise game, she has a terribly written personality that comes across as arrogant and selfish
Anyways, I’m writing a fic about this, but here are my main thoughts that are open for discussion
