Drones  - The new ace for pipeline leak detection in India

India has a Crude Oil, Petroleum, and Natural Gas pipeline network of over 15,000 km spread throughout the country and another 15,000 km of pipelines are to be laid in the upcoming years as per the Ministry of Petroleum. Pipeline management is challenging and leaks, if not detected, could be hazardous as explosions have occurred in past times. The leak detection happens through the traditional labour-intensive methods. These turn out to be impractical due to:

Being Cockroach - WeDoSky

Thankfully being a part of the NASSCOM’s 5th batch, WeDoSky had the opportunity to be present at one of their networking events in New Delhi. We’ve always been wary of attending large startup events/conferences because more often than not they end up being less productive than what a day at office is.

This event, however, wasn’t like the usual ones and helped us realize one big thing about us: we’ve been unconsciously building a cockroach.

Mr Alok Bajpai of ixigo spoke in detail about how, now, that the initial glamour/wowage about startups in India is settling and Unicorns are again getting seen as the mystical creatures that they are meant to be, being a cockroach -a survivor -is the next cool thing.

Cockroaches, summarily, have survived the extinction of dinosaurs and are believed to be able to survive nuclear disasters. They can live without food & water for upto two weeks and love to gorge on whatever’s available for them to survive. Drones & Data for Rural Development - WeDoSky

Gandhi Ji once said, “The future of India lies in its villages”.

 With 65% of our population living in villages, Prime Minister Modi’s rural development programs hit the right spot.

 While on one end there’s a boom in the IT - Ecommerce - Industries, the highest earning member in a family in an average village still earns less than Rs 5000 per month.

 There is a huge, huge disparity between how children grow up in villages in comparison to those brought up in Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. With no easy access to the internet, electricity, filtered water; they stand a tough chance against the urban kids who grow up having easy access to this infrastructure. An Urban kid’s basic necessity is a rural kid’s luxury - such is the gap!

 Drones and Geographic Information System (GIS) can be very useful in deriving data about villages to efficiently plan growth inducing changes. To showcase the power of the technology, we’re quickly going to go through a solar case study of a village in Haryana and see how small inititiatives can possibly lead to significant results for our villages. Mining Surveys now possible in 3D Models | WeDoSky

Drones and their new surveying technology have started showing tremendous amounts of uses in the Mining industry globally. Aerial photogrammetric is emerging as an astonishing method to survey sites quickly and easily. But how do we do it?

 These drones are self-built by our team at WeDoSky, especially for the rough Indian terrain. The drones fly and capture images at specific angles and distances above the mine. They autonomously capture imagery and set routes for itself. These images are then processed with various software’s that produce stunning 3D models of the sites.

 The 3D models give an enormous view of the mines which are not easily seen with the naked eye. The models are even better than high-resolution aerial images of the site. Other than an amazing perspective of all things visually, the models also have various surveying features which stand to be the primary use of such technology.
