DR LEONARD LOSER CHURCH IS THAT YOU?!??!
@rose-glamour I’m making a separate post explaining how to make a candle kind of quickly!
It’s actually incredibly easy, the hardest part is finding the proper mould to shape it. I ALWAYS use cartons or just something made of either cardboard or plastic (cardboard is the best), but you have to pay attention to the shape otherwise you’ll be like me and pick a round nice-looking box and it turns out it has these dents inside at the bottom that will make it look like a goddamn pudding.
My preferred shape is those square cartons of juice (flattened at the bottom, otherwise it will be chiseled at the corners and pressed at the center, like it has a dent. Continente has a limited edition that comes out in the summer that’s a series of lemonade shit that’s the perfect shape. Right now, I’ve been buying this Continent orange juice (good too)
Also, I’m gonna try a pringles box soon too lmao
(There ARE proper moulds out there on sale, this is just the cheap approach. Also, from what I understand, moulds are usually made of metal, so you have most of the times to slightly heat it up to let the candle out, using a blow dried. With a cardboard carton, just tear it apart. Way easier.)
So you need:
1. Something to shape it, as stated above
2. Candles, old candles, leftover wax, whatever. Literally no need to go out and buy wax. Use whatever leftovers you have.
3. Wick
4. Burning oils like these ones if you want to make a scented candle
5. Honestly whatever you wanna throw in there. I’ve used dirt:
6. A pot and a pan (basicamente derretes em banho maria, portanto metes um púcaro dentro da panela com água)
So first, you get your carton. You cut tthe top off and flip it on its head. At the base, you tear a hole just big enough for the wick to go through. You slide the wick through the hole at the base, push it all the way across and tie a knot at the very end so it remains stuck and the liquid wax doesn’t leak–I mean the knot shot be at the bottom, that part that’s sitting on the table (although it might still leak, so cover your table with plastic or something).
Supposedly, you’ll have cut the carton all the way around. So you pick up a pencil or a stick (I use chopsticks cause I have a shit ton from chinese takeout) you roll the wick around it. You do this so the wick is straightened and stands perfectly still vertically (nota: eu prendo com uma mola na ponta).
It should look something like this:
Keep in mind that, the base of the carton is actually gonna be the top part of the candle.
So you slap some water in a pan, or a cooker, or wateverr, and boil it. Inside a smaller pot, when the water’s bubbly, you melt the wax/candles.
A hint on where I get my candles and wick: Tiger sells these long standing candles for 50 cents each, they come in several colours and a single one actually provides a LOT of wax. Basically, I break them in three, pull the wick out and use that wick in my candles. If you want to buy wick, there are places online that sell them already waxed. Some have that metal thing at the base (if you want to make candles inside glass jars, you’re gonna need those and also hot glue). If you go to a drugstore and buy wick, be aware that they’ll most likely sell like, pretty raw wick, and you’ll have to wax it and ….that’s a pain in the ass. Just get those Tiger candles for 50 cents. They’ve stacked me with a lot of wax.
These bad girls right here
Once the wax is melted, all you gotta do is pour it into the mould. Now here you can be inventive:
- You can use chunks of ice to create this effect but here’s the thing about ice candles: because they’re basically filled with holes, they burn up super quick. Like, within minutes. The way I do it, I make one layer of ice, sometimes two, but then at the bottom (which, in your mould, it’s gonna be the top) I make an extra thick layer of wax with nothing, so that instead of burning up quickly, what happens is: the top layer burns rather quickly, but then it creates this magical lantern effect. This is the effect I managed to create in one of my candles a while ago:
As you can see, I threw glitter in there as well.
Now I’m not sure how every glitter out there works, but so far, I should warn you that glitter actually doesn’t sink and sticks together in chunks if you just sprinkle the melted wax with it. So it won’t spread on the wax. It also will float at the top if you sprinkle it on the melted wax while inside the mould. The way I do it, is one of two ways (or both at the same time if I want EXTRA SPARKLY): 1) sprinkle the ice inside the carton with glitter. That way, the glitter will stick to the ice, and because the part where the wax gets into direct contact with the ice is the one to solidify instantly, the glitter will stay there. It’s also what created the above effect. 2) I sprinkle it on the candle before it melts AND while it melts. But usually that is to add up to the effect.
If you want to colour white wax, when you don’t have coloured wax with you, use those crayola crayons. They’re not toxic cause they’re made for kids who put everything in their mouths. I’ve never tried it but I’ve seen a lot of videos of people using it. They melt the crayons with the wax and mix it inside the pot.
If you’re doing a layered candle, you have to let each layer rest and solidify before you pour the next one. How long will vary (right now, since it’s cold as hell, it takes like 1h).
You can also play with how the wax solidifies in the carton by tilting it (that’s what I did with the last one I made).
Also, it is possible to make a candle in a glass jar without those fancy wicks with the metal thingy at the base. I’ve done it plenty. You can use a paper clip, roll the wick around the paper clip and use hot glue to glue it to the bottom. But because I’m a cheap ass bitch, I actually just straight up doubled the layer of wax on the wick until it got THICC and straightened with NOTHING keeping it still at the bottom. It works. But it will look… crooked:
lmao
For a scented candle, use the aforementioned oils. Don’t worry, those fuckers are made to resist super high temperatures. Just pour it while it’s melting (shortly before you’ve actually melted it al).
BUT
DO NOT USE ANY FUCKING OIL THAT HAS COLOUR IN IT. I don’t know what the fuck those things have in them, but the actual oil doesn’t dilute. It’s like fucking olive oil. It doesn’t even blend with the wax. So what it happens is, when you light your candle, the wick, instead of burning, fucking SPARKLES LIKE FIRE CRACKERS and the oil will drip off the candle. It fucking sucks.
You know those cheap ass oils that have the blue lid? That cost like 80 cents a flask and you can buy them in any chinese warehouse? Use those. Those are the best ones out there, seriously.
I think that’s it. At least the basis. I’m still experimenting so… Bruh, enjoy!! Have fun!! Make shit up, it’s super easy and super fun!!

Have I told y’all about my husband’s Fork Theory? If I did already, pretend I didn’t, I’m an old.
So the Spoon Theory is a fundamental metaphor used often in the chronic pain/chronic illness communities to explain to non-spoonies why life is harder for them. It’s super useful and we use that all the time. But it has a corollary. You know the phrase, “Stick a fork in me, I’m done,” right? Well, Fork Theory is that one has a Fork Limit, that is, you can probably cope okay with one fork stuck in you, maybe two or three, but at some point you will lose your shit if one more fork happens. A fork could range from being hungry or having to pee to getting a new bill or a new diagnosis of illness. There are lots of different sizes of forks, and volume vs. quantity means that the fork limit is not absolute. I might be able to deal with 20 tiny little escargot fork annoyances, such as a hangnail or slightly suboptimal pants, but not even one “you poked my trigger on purpose because you think it’s fun to see me melt down” pitchfork.
This is super relevant for neurodivergent folk. Like, you might be able to deal with your feet being cold or a tag, but not both. Hubby describes the situation as “It may seem weird that I just get up and leave the conversation to go to the bathroom, but you just dumped a new financial burden on me and I already had to pee, and going to the bathroom is the fork I can get rid of the fastest.”
I like this and also I like the low key point that you may be able to cope with bigger forks by finding little ones you can remove quickly. A combination of time, focus, and reduction to small stressors that can allow you to focus on the larger stressor in a constructive way.
This pretty much sums me up
I will be participating on a guacamole contest tomorrow at work. My objective is not to win, but to make every single one of the judges cry.
I will add every single chili I am able to find at the store, all of them.
All the chilis I could find at the store… i wonder if it will be enough :P
Ready for the judges!!
So updates after the contest! I didn’t win.
This guacamole had the talent that when you take the first bite of your chip it isnt that spicy, but after a few seconds the feeling starts to spread. The judges bravely took a bite and were all happy and as I walked away from the table they started to gasp when the full force of the 6 different types of chili hit them at once.
People were free to taste it afterwards and every face of first surprise and then pain filled my heart with happiness.
I have never seen so much people enjoy suffering tho, because they finished everything so fast I even got time to make a second batch before the winners were announced.
Overall this was great and I had lots of fun making others suffer :D
this? innocent sadism. i aspire to be like this
I always read FAQ as fack and I don’t plan on changing this
For everyone’s information:
The plan for the 17th, when the adult content ban comes in, is to protest.
To do that, we are making as much noise either side of the 17th as possible, and using the site as normal.
On the 17th, dead silence.
People are saying log off but what they really mean is don’t open the site or the app.
But, on the 17th make as much noise as possible on every other platform. Tweet about it and post on facebook and instagram and everywhere else.
What this does is causes a massive dip in ad revenue for one single day. That does not make staff think ‘oh everyone’s gone let’s shut down.’ What it actually makes them think is ‘oh shit people aren’t happy and if people don’t keep using our site we’re out of money and out of jobs.’
A boycott reminds a company that the users (consumers) have the power to make their site (business) worthless with one single coordinated decision.
If you want to join in, here’s what to do:
Do:
Close all open instances of the app and site on all your devices before the 17th
Make posts before and after the 17th on tumblr and other platforms, talking about why this ban is bad
Make posts on other sites during the 17th. Flood the official tumblr staff twitter and facebook with your anger and your opinion
Come back on the 18th and check in
Don’t:
Delete the app from your phone (this doesn’t affect their revenue and since it’s off the store at the moment it’ll be hard to get back)
Delete your account. I mean you can if you want to, but if you keep your account and don’t use it you’re saying to staff that there’s still time to save it. If you delete it’s hard work to come back.
Open the app or website (including specific blogs)
Make any posts (turn down/off your queue and make sure nothing is scheduled)
Go quiet elsewhere. Make it clear that this is just about tumblr, not a mass move away from all social media.
Remember: the execs don’t care about anything but money. Shutting down the site means there’s $0 further income from it. That’s their last possible course of action. If we make it clear we’re not happy, they’ll have to do something or we can do more and more until it becomes too expensive.
Protests take commitment. They’re a defiant action against a business that is doing something wrong. They will try to scare you into not participating, because they’re scared. We hold all the power here, sometimes the execs just need to be reminded of that.
Peaceful protest pointed at ad revenue, spiking activity elsewhere. Genius.
at the very least, do this
Just a reminder for tomorrow, I’ll be joining in with this
a tribute

that writer feel when you know you’ll be better at writing in a year or five years and you want to wait to write That Story until you’re better but you know you have to write to get better in the first place so it’s a goddamn catch 22
This is why I think there’s not really a big problem if you’re one of those people who struggle to finish writing a novel. You might be struggling for an excellent reason - like you need to mature more so that you know what your characters should do.
There are many flavors of writer’s block, and one of them is definitely “I’m not yet who I need to be to write this story”
But the way I figure, you never know until you try–so why wait? Even if you’re not who you need to be at the beginning, you might grow into that person by the end
