hey! is there a theory on why they ignored e/o during weibo awards? like they were very relaxed with each other during public events up until that point right? or had the whole drama with xz already started by then?

This was before my time in the fandom, and I’m not the best informed on the bjyx stuff so I had to read around a bit, and I guess I’m down to clown...

Disclaimer: i know nothing, this is fake news, fanfiction.

When you use say xz drama, I’m guessing you mean either the 227 incident or just the speculation on their relationship in general, so I covered both. If I’ve got this wrong though please let me know!

Since Weibo Night was the last time they were seen together (until the recent Tencent Awards), all of the interaction between them which fanned the CP flames in the first place would’ve happened before this (almost a whole year, wow). So if you mean the speculation, then yes, it really gained traction when CQL was released (along with the official bts a few days later), but there was speculation even the year before with the dragonboat festival date when they were still filming CQL. I used zhansww’s pinned timeline and it has been very useful! Thank you!

From what I can tell anon, the most popular theory is that 1) Weibo Night would have had a number of government officials present, so they were being excessively cautious and 2) they wanted to take some of the heat off themselves and not fuel the CP. If this is the case, it’s funny that this was their solution and no one had the forethought to realise this would have the opposite effect, it was so out of character for them both!

Also, I’m going to take into consideration the fact that WY’s court documents were made public only 6 weeks before weibo night, where he was sued several XZ solo fans for slandering himself, his own solo fans and bjyx fans. This is speculation on my part, but you would think there would have been some discussion on how to deal with the increasingly problematic fans around this time. Maybe they thought the court case wouldn’t be enough of a deterrent? Which is correct, if true. It didn’t deter some of the more militant fans from action, the fic that started the whole 227 incident was uploaded a month after weibo night, and we all what happened there 😔.

So I’m happy after the year XZ had to endure, that they were both able to be at the same event as each other and even share the same stage. Even if they do have to heavily modify how they behave in public for now, much like weibo night. It’s probably still necessary for the sake of their careers, fans and relationship for the time being!

I’ll finish by reminding people this is just speculation, because we have no way of knowing for sure. And also, again I’m not the most well-read person on the CP stuff because I avoid twitter like it’s covid, so if I’ve got things horribly wrong please let me know for anons sake!
