a true freak whom i admire so deeply and was probably the first individual with whom i associated the phrase ‘sex god.’

my dad would have my sister and me watch the music video for ‘don’t come around here no more,’ the one with the alice in wonderland theme...and i remember it being the first truly freakish and disturbing video i had seen. my mom wasn’t sure we were ready to see that video when it was replayed on vh1 and mtv over the years, but we were. tom petty, you are incredible. thank you for being your true freak self, allowing some of us to realize that being your true self is a healing and coping mechanism. the world still has a lot to learn from you.
