Today is the first day of National Nutrition week. Linking in with @nutritionaustralia ’s theme of #tryfor5 veg a day we are going to be posting up some tips & meal ideas this week to encourage veg consumption 🌶🍅🌽🍠🍆
Today we have cooked our fav sweet & sour chicken dish with more veg & cut the portion sizes down for carbs & protein 🍲 (recipe on our website). We used the following ingredients to make it a lot healthier than a takeaway version:
• Fresh veg: garlic, red onion/ capsicums & Ginger
• No added salt or sugar tomato purée
• Tinned pineapple pieces in natural juice not syrup
• Used reduced salt soya sauce
• Used brown rice instead of white
• Add a bit of passion & Magic ✨

The Impact of What We Eat: From Science & Technology to Eating Local
Featuring Chef Daniel Patterson, Dr. Paul Thompson, and Dr. Kent Kirshenbaum
March 8, 2016
As part of our 2016 public lecture series, we explored the environmental and social impacts of food with a focus on science and technology. A major theme of this panel was how we can initiate change through consciously making food choices. Chef Daniel Patterson shared how his restaurant LocoL strives to enhance and empower local communities. Dr. Paul B Thompson of Michigan State University discussed the ethical and philosophical implication of agricultural practices and food infrastructure on food producers. Dr. Kent Kirshenbaum of NYU Chemistry explored the latest scientific advances in food technology.
Check out some of the shorter highlights from the lecture!
Yoga tidbits: In lieu of shoulder stand, stay here. Stay here if you are someone that spends the day at a desk, hunched over, or if you spend much of your time cranking your neck looking down at a phone screen. The invitation is not always to take yourself to the textbook fullest expression of a posture. I believe it’s important to evolve the practice, if it calls.
In today’s world, we tend to hunch over our laptops, bend to pick up children, and look down at our phone screens, etc. Sometimes we need to back up and off traditions. Not necessarily to question the practice or the benefits. There are many wonderful benefits to shoulder stand. However, if you spend most of your day looking down, please stay here propped up on a block or lean your legs up onto a wall. In the Western world, many of us have a lot of tension built up around the neck, shoulders, and down the back. The inversion benefits are here with a neutral spine. Lean into your body cues, how you live your life, and you’ll be syncing your intuition within the practice. I promise you this. It is all loving. Science and evolving, if we choose to be open to such findings and nuances. #howtoyoga #trustyourself
Graphic: Body modification through cosmetic surgery
In 2000, only 300 American women had upper-arm lift surgery, but the operation’s popularity has grown massively in recent years. According to new statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 15,136 women and 321 men took the surgical route to buff arms in 2012. And while internationally the most common plastic surgery is liposuction of those pesky fat deposits, in Canada the top reason for going under the cosmetic knife is bigger breasts.
According to a survey of procedures performed in 2011 by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, breast enhancements lead the way in Canadian surgical augmentation, with 20,375 operations, accounting for 24.9 per cent of all its cosmetic surgeries. Above we take a look at some of the other top trends in voluntary body modification.
