@wellroaredjamesx
I’m going to have to bail on you…
Really?
Well, that fuckin’ bites... but I understand, yeah. Another time then?
I was going to say I’d come over a cook you something in exchange for crashing on your couch. How does that sound?
Sounds fair enough. I suppose I could spare the sofa for a few days in exchange for a meal. Haven’t had a decent one since Lily stopped by a few days ago.
That sounds great. See you then?
Yeah! This same spot Wednesday.
"Were you looking for something?"Â
“I was--“ James stopped mid sentence and let out a laugh, raising an arm to point at something beyond the two of them. He maneuvered around the other to the opposite wall where he snatched a paper pinned to a board. “Never mind... Found it."
"I don’t know if i should even visit my family! I wasn’t exactly the best son or brother to them!"Â
“That can’t possibly be true and you know it. But if their love for you all depends on whether you’re a good son or not, perhaps you are in need of a new family.” James tilted his head slightly, regarding the other. “Mine’s always open to a new member or two..."
"Ow!"
"Bugger it all!"
James jumped slightly at the exclamation, eyes moving from his task at hand to the woman. “You alright there?"
The Potter children and some friends on their last hoorah before school began days later.
"Excuses, excuses!" She laughed, dodging his hands. Shimming the bags she was carrying from the crook of her elbow to her hands, she deposited them into his outstretched hands instead. "If you don’t want to hug me, you can take these. I hope your kitchen’s clean, I’m cooking us dinner" She told him, walking past him and into the house.Â
His mouth opened and closed, first watching her enter the flat blankly before looking down at the bags in confusion. He shook his head and followed after, swinging them lightly in his hold. “Well, I would’ve hugged you, but alright...” James grinned, excited. “Brilliant! I’d love dinner."
"Uh huh.. I see. And have you?" She gestured around her, at the store.
“Not quite yet... but perhaps I just haven’t found the right one... What do you recommend?"
"Well… I can give you thirty minutes."
"I mean, it’s really just a hair salon appointment, so if you make it interesting, I’ll just skip it."
“Thirty?” He repeated, thinking if he could manage that before nodding. “Yeah. That’s a can-do from me."
“I mean, I think I could be more interesting than that -- but I can’t be certain... because I haven’t a clue what all your hair sessions entail. Tell me, are there lions and fire involved?"
I dunno mate, I dunno.
It is what it is and I’m not going to worry about it. Hey, you got dinner plans?
Dinner? Not tonight, no. Was just gonna get takeout and then lie around m’apartment until bedtime.
Why? You wanna treat me to a date? I’d be delighted!
Dominique mock tutted. “Constant vigilance, Potter!” She said before punching him in the arm in reply to his next comment. “Why don’t you go home then, idiot, sleep while you can?”
“Yes!” He laughed aloud, grin widening at the strike on his person, hands moving to swat back. “Because then I’d miss chances like these to annoy my wonderful family."
I’m free most afternoons actually. Except Tuesdays, I work late on Tuesdays. When do you want to go?
How about Wednesday? I think that could work?
The have a game going and we can take the floo over to see it.
"I thought you were supposed to be the coordinated one." Lily giggled.Â
“I am, I am!” James urged, grabbing for her hands. “You just snuck up on me, princess. That’s all."
“Aye.” She found herself smiling in return, also not needing to fill the silence with words, simply finding that his inability to withhold a smile seemed to be present for her as well. Bringing her thumb to her lip, she slid it across the bottom edge, the rest of her hand attempting to conceal the smile. “Very good.” And for the woman with all the words in her head, nothing remained, just the image of his smile.
The silence that settled around them wasn’t in least awkward and James found himself relieved that he could feel so comfortable around the blonde. The two shared the look for a moment more and he slung an arm around her shoulders moving them away from their current spot. “Better head off, yeah? So we can get a good table... Any place in particular you’d like to go to?” He watched her from the corner of his eyes, tilting his head so when she spoke he could easily understand her.
