Found a treasure and a mystery at my local antique shop!

This is clearly the same fabric as Kirsten’s meet dress but how did it end up in this mini quilt?

It is an amazingly well crafted piece and feels so true to Kirsten’s aesthetic. So, did it come from a bolt of fabric or an upcycled Kirsten dress?

It is signed and dated by the artist and I wish I could find her to ask!

Claudie is so thrilled to have the May 1920 edition of The Brownies’ Book. From Etsy seller Islandshire. They were kind enough to include 3 mini postcards from the 20’s too!

I’m reading her book and Claudie loves this magazine. So glad to be able to give her a copy and support a small business. It is a very nicely made tiny book!

Kirsten's Stove

My mom bought me this gorgeous Victorian/Edwardian child's stove--and assorted goodies. Isn't it darling?! I thought of it as Samantha's at first and assumed it would look too grand for Kirsten but because it's a bit undersized for AG, it actually works for Kirsten.

I also recently got my hands on Kirsten's pottery and party treats for a decent price!

Happy Black History Month! Introducing,

Tamany Greene

Tamany (she/they) is a 10 year old nonbinary girl living in Pittsburgh in 1989, with her parents and older sister. Tamany is Autistic and otherwise physically disabled due to being born prematurely with heart defects, and uses a walker.

Tamany is an imaginative girl who loves fantasy movies, her favorites being The Neverending Story, Labyrinth, and The Dark Crystal. Fantasy gives her a place to escape from the ableism she faces, and the general medicalization of her life- in fantasy worlds anything can happen, and she can do anything. She isn't stared at and whispered about by strangers in the street, isn't constantly being poked at in doctor's offices and physical therapies, she can be whoever she wants and be loved, be a hero.

It’s the first sunny day in two weeks, and Eleanor is overjoyed to be given the task of gathering kindling for the kitchen fire! It doesn’t seem like such a chore when she gets to run around and explore. She’s perfectly cozy in her heavy plaid cloak, her brick-red wool skirt, cozy gray mitts, and a shortgown as bright as a bluebird’s wing.

Can you tell yet that I love making shortgowns for Eleanor? I’m pretty sure this one won’t be the last! It’s meant to mimic the look of a jacket that fastens in the front with hooks and eyes, but really it’s just a seam, and it fastens in the back, which is what I prefer.

It’s cold at school today, so Ashley and Alison are keeping warm 90s-style. 

Ashley has a baggy sweater with a plaid skirt and loafers, and Alison wears her overalls with only one strap buckled, with combat boots.

Except for the hat, Alison’s outfit is vintage AG. Ashley’s loafers and tights are AG, with the skirt and sweater made by me.

Addy’s new dress is completed. She got a new hairstyle too.

The back is just pinned for now, but Addy doesn’t mind. I don’t have a lot of extra time/ energy to sew lately, but I’m doing what I can without stressing about it. In any case, I’ve been wanting this kind of dress for Addy for a while. I’m very partial to plaid, and I love this color family when I see it on others dolls.

On Sundays, Susanna and her family walk into the town of Dover to the Quaker meetinghouse. The days is cold and snowy, and she’s glad to have the protection of her warm cloak. But Susanna and her family try not to draw too much attention to themselves as they walk. 1664 is still a difficult year to be a Quaker; this new sect only began attracting followers in the previous decade. Because of their anti-slavery actions and their treatment of women as equals, there is a great deal of persecution of the Quakers by the Puritans, who are a religious and political majority in the American colonies.

Introducing Priya Chakravarti!

Priya is a JLY 80, and she just arrived today. I’m absolutely in love! She’s the 7th doll in my collection, but the first doll I’ve bought brand new as an adult collector. My last new-in-box doll was Esther, who I bought in 2000! I’ve been eyeing Priya for about two months now and I’m so happy that I’ve finally added her to the doll family.

Priya is Indian-American, and I think she lives in the Chicago area…beyond that, I don’t know much about her, but I’m excited to get to know her better!

Hi! I super admire your archival skills. American Girl Magazine was a huge part of my childhood and it’s so fun to get nostalgic about the recipes and stories especially.

Do you know if anyone does scans of the human clothing section of old AG catalogs? I am super hopeful to find late 97/possibly early 98 images of the scrunchies that were part of the plaid pastel styles but so far I’ve had no luck since most people focus on the dolls and their accessories.

Unfortunately I don't know of anyone personally who's doing scans of old AG catalogs, dolls, human clothing or otherwise. If anyone following me knows of anyone who's doing catalog scans or might know about the scrunchies in question, feel free to reply to this post!

I did notice an AG catalog on ebay recently that seemed dedicated to the 'AG Gear' line when scoping out any good deals on AG magazines. If you have the means to, you may want to keep an eye out on Ebay for any catalogs!

I just finished cleaning up all of the January/February issues in my collection!

I avoid posting about every single issue I scan and upload on here to avoid spamming everyone, but I do post updates as I finish each issue over on my Ko-Fi! If you're interested in knowing when each issue is finished and uploaded, feel free to give it a follow!

I wanted to call special attention to the 2018 issue, the first issue in what would be the last full year of American Girl magazines.*

My big emotional weakness is seeing any sort of 'here's to another [x] years!' message with the hindsight of knowing how soon it all ends. I at least wanna give a small toast to the work done on the magazine by sharing a bunch of articles from this 25th anniversary issue! They had a lot of 90s themed stuff, and it's Very Interesting to see a magazine that started in the 90s try to depict the 90s in a way that will be appealing to 8-12 year olds in the year 2018. Keep an eye out over the next few days!

*Technically the 2019 Jan/Feb issue was the very last one, but the 2018 issue made a point to celebrate the magazine's 25th anniversary. If I'm still missing that final 2019 issue, this at least a nice celebratory hurray for the magazine.
